Oshawott and Dewott were originally following. Sword welding is sorta a bipedal thing (because you know, you need hands grasp a blade.) and
Samurrot kinda feels like it forces itself with it while trying to pull the unexpected thick body and quadrupled stance. Its like "hey I can still sorta use these large shells swords if I push myself, but my body sorta restricts me to being on all fours now". Just clashes and doesn't mix. If it just kept a slimmer body and the stayed with its bipedal stance like its past duel wielding evos, bet it would get a lot less hate. Do agree complaining about the species change in a pokemon evolution is silly though.

This. I don't know why people consider this thing to be "unappealing". The samurai armor and beard makes it look like an experienced warrior. And the natural sword motif is icing on the cake for it except it they're actually remnants of the scallops it used to fight with.

For me, I hate a few things about it.
For starters, it's not that it went from 2 to 4 legs. It's the posture, the thing looks like it spread it's legs to far and fell forward.
I don't see how it could be a functional sword fighter like that.
Secondly, the facial hair. The tuft under the chin is fine, as is the mustache, but the Massive side tufts under the chin bother the fuck out of me.
And finally the helmet, It's fucking stupid.
But that is just my thoughts on it.

Top half(from head to neck)= Warlord holding his spear(which is why the helmet has a horn as samurai helmets also had pointed crests. Its mega evolution would probably split it to 2 crests resembling a maedate crest).

Bottom half(rest of the body) = Horseback functionality. Its not the horse itself, it does the 4 legged movement like the horse. The samurai-style armor came from the Scallop’s defensive benefits. Part of the armor becomes a sword because the scallops provided offensive benefits as well, which is why it can still use it’s blades like a shield and a weapon except now you can finally see the part(unlike it’s pre evos as you would need to see how they used their shells).

Greninja looks good in art, and in smash.
But his render in the actual games looks awful. Specially apparent in pokeamie. Just looks like it's made of a bunch of simple shapes glued together.

The "beard's" purpose is to give an appearance of an experienced warlord, not some unusual functionality shit that came from someone thinking outside the box.

Besides it uses the swords as a surprise factor as an opponent wouldn't expect to eat long distance slashes when approaching a Samurott. And can't it move semi-bipedally with long distance blades anyway? It can use it's swords just fine.

No, not really? It's very distinct from Quilava and Cyndaquil, but they're just similar to each other to look like a believable gradual evolution. They're even based on three different species (an echidna/hedgehog hybrid, a stoat and a honey badger).
