Hi /vp/, today's Sunday which means you get another dose of Sage information. Smokey is busy sleeping so I'm filling in.

Demo 2.0 is in the works. As we properly refine what exactly is necessary for the next Demo, we continually push the release date back.
Later on in the thread a full "to-do" list will be posted.

Route 3 is fully implemented into the game and the Forest is in the works.
Someone finally figured out what the files that caused Macs to crash against Foster were.
>Maps
Maps has confirmed Route 10 and Andante Bay, and is working on a Demo 2.0 section of the Starry Cave.
we're also trying to make Route 9 not shit
>Distros
Distributions, which covers what goes on the routes, has been winding down.
Route 4, Route 5, and the Observatory are pending dialogue before a quick review and then shipping to development.
Route 7 has a couple minor things to iron out before dialogue and then reviewing.
Legato's got some general scripting for a couple of events there, but it's otherwise ready.
Dronia is to be confirmed with Route 9 so it's being held off on.
Route 10's wild Pokemon are finished.
It'll be in a later image, but the Pokemon there are Solacari, Slatic, Pawter, Pounther, and Cardinite.

Sprite Quality Control is in the works for the Bouwee line, the Platypow line, and Magnitogre.

Wibe has started from Dacapo with music, and we're working our way through all areas.
Dacapo to Route 1 is finished, and the rest of the content up to Quaver is in the works.

The TMs so far in Demo 2.0 have been distributed to various Pokemon.
These include Dig, Rock Tomb, False Swipe, Struggle Bug, and Hidden Power.
Other minor things include a moveset change and some EV changes. Nothing of note.
On the shitposting side, Megahorn is likely to be removed from Basilect.

Fog being involved in the game was removed.
Grunts are nearly ready to get a design.
They do, however, now have a standardized pool of Pokemon, barring some reconciliation.
Plot's been being refined. Specific details of an encounter with Team Aurum in Dronia are being hammered down.

Here's the observatory map - pretty simple.
Ignore the rocks outside of that cave entrance in the upper left. The cave entrance itself should be getting a unique tile, and the rocks will be moved into the cave.

Ah, this one and the Route 7 one don't have the Wild Pokemon in their templates.

Route 7's a bit more 'developer'. We're trying to see what else we can give the Loggers, if anything, and we might hand an Orett to the Engineer, but it's solid otherwise.


You can see the "dev" quality to some of this, as I usually only refine them when everything's finished.

This should close off the distros update posts. I'll see if I can find that webm.
Music's not really noteworthy yet. We've basically used everything from the last demo again, unsurprisingly.

I agree too. I can't think of a way to fix that though. Any palm tree tile would have a large top so it would hex badly, so just making a new palm tree wouldn't necessarily fix the problem.

People also don't want to have separate standing alone trees. One of the unwritten mapping rules is that you have a group of trees that's more than a few tiles across, you hex them to make them tidy.

So in the end, we do need to hex the trees, but changing the tree tile specifically wont really help the issue.

Should explain, this isn't the entire dungeon, just a small area for a plot event. The main cave is HM locked.
This is just a small area because you already go through a large route just to get here and we don't want to stretch out the distance between gym 1 and 2 even more.

Chimpoca, Toxito, Pomparunt and Koblin in the first round.
Pueblant, Quibble and Gilla in the second.

For a total of 7 pokemon lines. Representing the types, fighting, poison, bug, dark, steel, fire, rock, flying, ground. Representing generic evil themes, thug related themes, treasure themes, etc.

I doubt some anonymous user requests would be enough for some devs to consider but I really preferred the previous version of Vectol.2 over the latest version. In my opinion, the previous one looked more like newly-refined Vectol that appears more scorpion-like whereas the latest one just feels like "modified-Vectol" which makes it less-threatening. Outside of that, it's only design in sage dex that throws me off. Everything else in the sage dex is pretty solid.

So not only is totally overhauling the design even more of a fraction of a fraction of a chance of happening, but it explicitly lost to the new design. If it was a vote that was ongoing, i'd advocate for your input to mean something even if it didn't apply as an actual vote, but the matter is pretty settled.

If there's a specific thing you have in mind that would just change the current a bit to make it better in your opinion, posting an edit showing that would be your best bet, but again, even that is not very likely to go anywhere.

The map is bland, has no concept, cannot commit to any one theme, and screams blandness. Just look at that map. Seriously, it's just varying colors of green. You walk in and feel like you're in a forest but then there is a bridge over some puddles. That's right, puddles. Why are there puddles in the middle of the map?

If it is supposed to be a swamp, why the fuck is it not connected to any other water source and in a valley to the connecting marshland? It doesn't make any sense and is there for the sake of looking cool.

Turn that middle area into a sunken marshland with some actual surf spots that can lead to some secret areas in the route south of Route 9 and maybe you'll have something everyone likes.

The big problem with the stary cave is you can't look up. Its pokemon. We have just the walls to show sparkles on. When we do the lower levels, I think I can speak for everyone here, the water will reflect the ceiling covered in sparkles.

Turned out the top down perspective wasn't very good at it, so instead we just emphasized the crystal part.

There will be really dark water with reflections of the crystals that look like a night sky though.

Here's an idea: separate the horizontal part of the map to the right of the scrapyard from the rest of route 9, and then make it an actual forest by putting gates between it and the other routes.

Now instead of having a fuck huge route with three different themes you get:
-a grassland route that leads to a forest and a scrapyard
-a forest that leads to a cycling road and route 10.

This was a thing one time. There was a quite successful independent "What Sage mons would you put on your team?" thread and I compiled all votes to assemble what mons were popular and which were forgotten.

The first thing that comes to mind as strange is that the only way to get to the scrapyard is over a flimsy looking wooden bridge. Changing it to something more sturdy looking like a concrete bridge would make more sense since it could better hold the weight of large loads of scrap. The second thing that doesn't make a lot of sense is that the path from the city to the scrapyard is fragmented patches of bare ground rather than a solid path that looks intentionally manmade. The third and final part that needs a logic to it is the boggy swampy part. Since its the only route to another town there needs to be something like planks over the water or an obvious path that makes it look like the people of these towns have made an attempt to start connecting them.

For whatever reason, there was a gravel path or road (cant remember which exactly) that was scrapped. I couldn't tell you why.
Anyway, now there is a road (for vehicles) that leads to the scrapyard, but the player doesn't go along that path.
It's where the ET makes their getaway after the event.

I'd rather the road or gravel path return, but whatever.

Will it go straight from the route 9 as is with the concrete sidewalk looking thing to the paved road at the top of the scrapyard? The people working on these two maps need to get that sorted out so its consistent one way or another, either a road on both or the concrete path on both.
Is there a similarly inaccessible road in the Dronia map that leads to the blocked off road in the scrapyard? I feel what would bring the maps to the next level is if they had logical connections like that. Easier said than done, but adding things like that should be something kept in the back of mappers minds for when its convenient to do.

I understand why they scrapped it beyond them just not liking the direction my outline would take it. There were too many cooks in the kitchen so to speak and it was too hard to make progress. I feel the process itself was flawed much more so than the outline itself was but if you're going to completely change the approach you take for a creative thing like this it makes sense just to scrap it and start over. I also feel that the outline was losing some of its charm in the editing process since details were being changed individually rather than in batches. If writers had just submitted batches of edits to be chosen from maybe we could have made progress back then, but that wasn't really in the cards.
