I'm sorry, I'm going to vent now, because I can't say this to people I actually know.

I'm graduating high school soon and it's really depressing knowing my life is never going to give me the same sense of adventure that Pokémon did back in the summers of 2004-2005. I'd go outside with my brother and my Gameboy Advance and we'd lay in the grass and battle each other, trade the version exclusives, brag about our Pokédexes. I associate big billowing clouds with adventure because I'd see them above me whenever I'd look away from my Gameboy. Outside, on long car rides, out the window of the living room where the sun filtered through into the carpet.

I saw billowing clouds over a lake a few weeks ago when the winter weather cleared up, and my heart sank. I recently started lurking /vp/ and listening to the Lilycove City music because I'm trying to avoid growing up as much as possible for now. That pure contentment of years ago seems as far away as the clouds now. I've even begun drawing myself as a Pokémon trainer...

I'm supposed to go to college, but I might not even be accepted into the one I like. Either way, this will be one of my last summers I can be genuinely free, but I still don't know how much longer I have left to be genuinely happy before I'm put under the pressure everyone else is. Even without that pressure I'm crushing myself with a heavy heart. Blah blah blah talk talk talk.

I should try to smile. This summer I'm going to do something I love.

Life after highschool is completely different, and honestly I myself have had a drastic view change on life since I turned 18 and started living in my own. It sucks, it's scary, and you feel so insignificant. The only way to stay sane is distract yourself with the small doses of joy you get from your arsenal of vices. This Spring Break I drove to Austin with one of my friends, hung out with more friends, snuck into one of the buildings at UT, went up to the roof, caught some turtles in the pond (put them back, of course), then went on a bar crawl. Was a night I'll remember for a long time.

Take your time with college. There's no rule that says you have to finish everything in 4 years. My buddy finished in 4 years and ended up with a worthless degree because he couldn't decide what he wanted. Also, a shit ton of people play Pokémon in college. This shit isn't that hard, growing up ain't that bad. Take your time, you'll be young for a while.
