No, playing up Gen I Pokemon is safer. Based on the sales of RSE and ORAS, as an example, the commercial could've also been filled with Gen III Pokemon at the end instead and effectively have been about as recognizable to the same amount of people.

But anyone familiar with Gen III mon is also going to be familiar with Gen I mon, and the smart money in advertising nowadays goes right for the nostalgia. It's not brand loyalty, it's brand recognition. It's calculated, like everything else advertised and served to you.
