I'm Indian and not poverty-stricken like that, but it's just an example of what we see in society that's commonplace. Regardless of whether or not you fit that stereotype, it's just taking an example of what we do see to inspire those people, because they do exist, at least for the males.

With the girl, it seemed to be a more generic representation otherwise they would have had more girls in it. Remember it's an "I can do that" so it's probably something trying to inspire girls to compete with more experienced players in a men-dominated field -- chess, which serves as a metaphor for Pokemon here.

The point I failed to make: the little girl winning at chess could have been black, with the football player jock being white. Or if they really wanted to tick them spreadsheet boxes with molten magma sneaker swooshes, they could have portrayed the football player as female.

For an ad attempting to reach a wide range of people from myriad ethnic backgrounds it made some heavily misguided stereotyping choices.
