Not that it matters, this particular game is so generous with great early-game mons that dropping your starter might actually be the best move.

It kinda sucks for Fennekin that Mega-Zard is so powerful and makes it a good choice to drop it. Froakie is second best of the Kalos starters and doesn't get nearly as badly outdone by the Mega-Kanto starter of it's type.

I actually like Samurott a lot. It outranks Zard, Emboar, Typhlosion, Sceptile and Meganium on my list.

It's just that the water starters ALL do that, and I prefer the rest of them to it.
