And look at all the hints in the show! They always hug get along so well. They long for each other when apart. There is literally more hints in the show of Ash x Pikachu than any other pairing. EVERY episode implies they're OTP.
I mean the first episode is literally called "PIKACHU, I chose YOU", implying Ash is choosing Pikachu above every other possible love interest.

I think shipping is super weird. I don't understand how people can get so invested in something like that, completely fabricating things to suit their narrative. It's not like it's a chick show where the protagonist has to choose between two love interests and you might cheer for the boyfriend you like most or think would be a good pairing- shipping is completely imagining romantic love between two characters who may or may not have done more than look at one another.

I mean, if it isn't there in the source material, what do you gain from setting yourself up for disappointment?

A lot of these female fans obsess with Pokeshipping because I think when they were kids they self-inserted themselves into Misty's character, and Misty's crush on Ash was their first exposure of what love was like.

So when Misty left the show they all went beserk because the character they identified with was gone, and then went on epic rampages for the next decade hating on the anime, May/Dawn, and vowing to never watch until Misty returned. As we can see now 13 years later, those people never got what they wanted anyway.
