Nothing is DP in ratings. DP aired at a time hen people watched much more broadcast TV in general.
Even mega hits like One Piece is getting considerably less viewers now than DP did back then, and One Piece was far more popular than Pokemon back then too.

While i agree that the current startegy is a win win for every aspect of Pokemon....could you imagine how big the hype would be if they'd really announce the games this month?

New anime just started, Tretta Z is new, Manga also teases Z, new merch is starting to coming out. With the game announcement all of those above would gain even more in popularity and Pokemon Z would probably do very well with preorders in holidays season.
