I liked this one since gen one, the fact it was nearly impossible to have did not mattered, I had a spot for It in every single pokemon game I played.

I rarely find myself settling on a consistent favourite but Steelix, Umbreon, Skarmory, Heracross, Furret, Mareep, Feraligatr and Noctowl are all leading the pack.

Personal experience is the biggest part for me, I'd say. I use one in a run or against other players because I feel like it, they perform remarkably well, and then I get attached to them.

For example, my top two, Cinccino and Staraptor. Cinccino just totally wrecked everything when I used it in a run and then continued to when I started actually doing PvP after that run, and has the bonus of being adorable. Staraptor has a bit more sentimental value, it was the Pokemon that in a way got me to stop soloing the games with just my starter with Diamond, after the underleved Staravia I used just for Fly managed to save my ass in the Snowpoint Gym after Torterra got taken out. Though it took a while before I realized just how much I liked it.

high speed. Able to poison and confuse. Fly and not to mention Crobat is awesome looking. Zubats are awful but totally worth the time put into them for this one. Also houndoom and Venomoth Tentacruel. I tend to favor Poison types

I can say that British English is the taught standard here in Portugal but school lessons aren't enough to get a good grasp of the language. If you combine that with Portugal broadcasting a lot of subtitled American shows and consuming a lot of untranslated English media, then American English ends up being much more of an influence. I had to force myself to adhere to British spelling standards on my own.

On-topic: My favourites are picked by design, with the presence of specific colours and a high level of contrast being key; they also tend to be simple. Quirkiness of the Pokémon's functionality or in-game experiences with it can impact it too.
