In the recent artbook of Sugimori works it was revealed that the image was not related to Pokémon, but was actually a bunch of generic RPG character/monster designs he made up for a magazine article about game design.

This in the main reason i don't like the Torchic line, ESPECIALLY Blaziken. I've got nothin personnel against Sugimori, he's made some great designs, but he also gets stuck in creative ruts way too often. Blaziken was a prime example of it. Ken literally just piled many ideas onto some sort of creative melting pot and hoped something came out came out of it. Blaziken feels like conceptual leftovers or more like Ken trying to salvage some idea that didn't work out like he intended it to instead of disposing of it.
