I had this same problem so went back and played Fire Red, Heart Gold, and Emerald all over again. I'd forgotten how much fun they were to be honest -- particularly Fire Red and Emerald. I wonder if there's a way to get my teams from them over to X/Y, though.

probably one of the best games in the series. huge pokedex, region's more interesting with new stuff added, sheer amount of things to do aside from battling [join avenue, pokestar studios, tournaments, black tower/white treehollow, curtis/yancy sidequests, even musicals if you're into that], as well as highly-streamlined dex completion tools; story's also pretty decent, and it's pretty cool to see what's happened to unova since bw and the turmoil within team plasma, how the region reacted to their presence, what's up with all of the old characters, etc.

Unrelated to anything, but I'm currently playing through Gen 6 again and have just got to Route 5. My team so far is simply a level 21 Frogadier (nothing else has caught my fancy), but he's just stomping through everything because the opponents have level 12 and such pokemon. Did I overlevel or something? How can I fix this?

I had literally the exact same issue in my playthrough, since the first thing I caught besides Froakie was Helioptile on the route south of Ambrette. Once you catch something your levels will start to even out a bit.
