I actually pay to post at all, because 4chan is still blocked in a lot of public places I visit, and known VPNs (and my cell phone IPs) are range-banned because of pleb abuse.
A 4chan pass is in most cases cheaper than running a proxy on a rented VPS that's not so cheap that it's range-banned as well. Of course, other imageboards also have cookie-based whitelists which are granted by staff support that allow anons to post from banned ranges for free, but they also only have a fraction of 4chan's traffic and therefore abuse.

I did. Roughly three days before /vip/. I just got it because of the captcha but I really like it here. I was pleasantly surprised with this board though. At the risk of sounding like a philistine it's comfy here.
