This thread is for discussing currently airing anime. /vip/ is a slow board so expect it to carry over into the next season as well as the current one.

That having been said, what are you watching /vip/? I've been enjoying Demi-chan but I also started watching Kemono Friends and it's surprisingly good. Next season I'm really looking forward to that new PA Works show.
>>
>>54907

I'm trying to get through seasons 4 and 5 of Dragon Ball. The good bits are few and far between. The first three seasons are great fun. The final two seasons are really hit and miss.
>>
>>54907
I have a high opinion of Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and 3-Gatsu no Lion

I'm also enjoying Kuzu no Honkai. It's not a fantastic or impossible tale, but the subject matter is rarely touched upon by most anime.
>>
>>54910
I really love the soundtrack of Kuzu no Honkai. It's incorporated really well into the story.
>>
>>54912
The ending theme haunts me
>>
>>54910
Kuzu no Honkai is the most dramatically sexual anime I've ever watched. Everyone is high sexed and it all has a connection to it. This isn't your cutesy rom com or ecchi harem series.
>>
>>54918
Yeah I'm enjoying it a lot too. It seems a little contrived though, how everyone has a crush on everyone else. But it's really well directed.

I've been trying to figure out why I hate weebs so much, then it finally dawned on me. I hate them because they remind me of the friendless anti-social faggot that is myself. It's fine when I weebpost, I just get annoyed when anyone else does it.
>>
I never bothered with Kuzu no Honkai because I assumed it's a melodrama with sex scenes. Was I correct, or is it one of those dumb fun drama series?
>>
Satsuki is best girl
>>
>>54956
You're correct. If you don't like that then don't bother with it.

The cgi is offputting so I dropped that.

I checked out youjo senki recently.
I didn't expect to like it since the MC is a little girl, but I found it quite entertaining. I've always enjoyed amoral heroes, and the setting is at least mildly interesting.
>>
I finished Hibike! Euphonium s2 this evening.
I had enjoyed the first season, but even though the art, music, and animation were still good; I had trouble keeping myself interested enough to watch the second season. It moved away from light comedy with band practice into light drama and solving people's problems. I just didn't care what would happen by the end of it.

Still pretty good as an anime, but I hope they never make a 3rd season.

The story has concluded so I'd be very surprised if they did. I believe there's a spin-off series though.

>>
>>55821
You should pick up Gabriel Dropout. If you're enjoying the ones listed it's right up your alley.
>>
>>55828
Gabriel Dropout isn't bad, for a light comedy.
I wish cruchyroll hadn't decided to fill the script with religious references and puns though.
I watch horriblesubs specifically because they don't try to "fancy up" the subtitles with nonsense.
I am trying to learn Japanese by watching anime (silly as that is) and having a bunch of liberally translated nonsense is just an obstacle to me.

Now this will help us successfully escape.
>>
>>55847
Anime is good listening practice if you can already understand what they're saying so basically watching it raw. Even the most literal subtitles are going to have to fudge things for them to make sense in English and there's a lot in anime that people just don't say in real life Japan. You would never use 貴様 (kisama) in real life for example because there are better words than that to express what you mean without sounding like a shounen battle action protagonist. When you're beginning you should be working on fundamentals like grammar and vocabulary which reading manga is better at teaching you as fast or as slow as you're able to read it and translate it. You can always grind vocabulary flashcards in anki but it won't stick unless you're reading raw manga. Just my advice. You're free to do whatever you want though.

Uh, you know that HS just rips the subs straight from Crunchyroll, right? They don't sub anything themselves.

I finished 3gatsu no Lion today.
I really enjoyed it. It was a comfy anime about shogi with entertaining characters and I enjoyed a lot of the metaphor the main character would use.
I would have kept watching it indefinitely, if it had kept going.
It reminded me a bit of Honey & Clover and a tiny bit of SZS (just in terms of cinematography)

So, what's everyone watching next season? I've currently got
>Souryo to Majiwaru Shikiyoku no Yoru ni
>Warau Salesman NEW
>Alice to Zouroku
on my radar.
>>
>>56035
Let me look at the chart. Things that look interesting:
>Atom:the Beginning
>Shingeki no Bahumat: Virgin Soul
>Tsugumomo

Stuff I will probably hate but I will watch them anyways out of duty to the source material:
>Berserk 2
>Shingeki no Kyojin 2
>>
>>56039
is berserk 2 actually going to go past the original anime material, or keep redoing the golden age?
>>
>>56056
The one that came out late last year was The Conviction Arc skipping the Lost Children arc so we're well out of the Golden Age arc that the 1997 series and the movies was about. This new season is going to be more about The Black Swordsman era of the manga so at least it's something different if not very well executed.
>>
>>56035
>>56039
So you're telling me you can just know what anime come out next season?

I had no problem whatsoever with S2, but I understand there are a lot of people that don't want any sort of "drama" in their SOL, especially in KyoAni shows. Personally, I wish they would venture in that area more often in a more serious setting, like they attempted with Kyoukai no Kanata. Basically a non-school setting, with adult characters playing major roles, touching upon dark themes - no problem with that.
What I don't like are shows where you can feel from the start that despite their cute characters it will most likely end in tragedy, like Planetarian or Plastic Memories, and if they indeed do, only leave a sense of hopelessness and despair.
But compared to that some troubles of growing up are nothing. I don't need an S3 of Hibike, but a movie would be nice, so Reina can finally marry Sensei.

I'm marathoning Jojos. I plan in getting the manga soon.

I started at the most recent part, but I decided to watch it in its release order.

After that, I think I'll start watching Gundam. I was told to just watch that in release order as well, so I'll stick to it. I'm really in love with the mechanical art of it-- the military sci-fi aspects of it are pretty neat to me. Plus, with older sci-fi, it just seems like the artists and writers just pet their mind run free with what they want to see in it, so I'm excited about that.
>>
Catching up with Konosuba S2. It's just as good as S1, I think.
I'll be watching Youjo Senki after I'm done with it. GF said she already watched it and it was decent but its (lack of) budget really shows through its recycled battle scenes.

Can somebody please clue me in on why all these fucking translators are complete sociopaths? No joke, I was just watching a (very poorly) fansubbed anime and halfway through, I swear on my life, the translator just wrote "this is a propoganda anime, you don't need to know what they're saying" and just stopped subbing the episode! And this isn't a one-time thing, either - if you watch fansubbed anime, or even professionally subbed anime now that I think about it, you'll have encountered at least once occurrence where either
>the subtitle is obviously not what the character is really saying (Crunchyroll is the absolute worst for this)
>the translator fucks with either the subs or the video itself (see my above example or CommieSubs)
>the translator is just an absolute faggot to people watching the show (HorribleSubs, Commie, etc etc)

I get it. If you're translating Japanese media, more likely than not you're probably fucked up in the head somehow. But leave that shit at home! I just want to watch the titty harem or whatever! You obviously can't hate the people reading your subs that much if you're still translating for the show (or game or whatever). And if you're really just using translation as a means to "get back" at people by way of acting like a complete child - why not just cut to the chase and put a bullet in your cranium?

I just want to watch the show!
>>
>>58280
You're watching something done by real people in their spare time usually for free. Furthermore, you're watching or reading media in a completely dissimilar language that has developed completely independently from English. A little or even a lot of rewrite is necessary. The only way to get a pure message is by consuming it in its native language.

>A little or even a lot of rewrite is necessary.
But that's not what I'm ranting about. I understand that a few liberties need to be taken when translating anything, but there is a significant difference between a translation and an alteration. I don't know Japanese beyond the few conversational lines I've picked up by ear from anime, but I'm pretty certain the characters aren't saying hip Twitter words or American memes.

Also:
>You're watching something done by real people in their spare time usually for free.
That's not a good enough answer. There ARE some very good translators who do it for free, and I'm not going to be lowering my standards because some hack had a bad day and took it out on the people who want to watch an episode of Penguin Highschool.
>>
>>58289
Also, nothing that you mentioned excuses the absolute childishness of the translators I am talking about. I mean, it's frankly embarrassing to read some of this junk as someone who doesn't have immediate disdain for random strangers on the internet.

Depends on what the propaganda is.

It doesn't. What if all records of nazi propaganda films were erased and/or changed. Who the fuck cares if you get offended or whatever, deliberately hiding or changing information is propaganda in itself. Inform, don't control.

I'm currently watching a sub of the Lupin III 1971 series and it's very good - you can really tell that the author simply wanted to convey the original message of the dialogue as best he could.
