I want to write a book. Not a novel, more of a reference/how-to/here-are-some-neat-projects type thing. I'm totally realistic in that I assume I'll never actually finish, or if I do, it'll be shit, and if it isn't, I won't be able to find a publisher, and when I can't, I'll have to Kickstart it, and if I do, it'll fail, and I'd resort to self-hosted PDF and then fuck up the website. But in the meanwhile, it's a fun project! Question for you guys though, do you know what software would be the best route to take for that? I have particular dimensions in mind, and there are going to be charts. Probably not much in the way of graphs, but definitely some charts. What's the best way to make a book and get it ready for print? It just using LibreOffice okay, or should I be using Adobe Illustrator or something?

Just use word.

InDesign. Provided you know how to use it. I'd use Illustrator for graphs. At least for the final art, anyway.
Otherwise just keep it simple, as in unstyled text. Notepad or some other basic text editor.
