Why aren't you using arch linux?
Because Arch Linux is just a strictly inferior version of unstable Debian.

It takes effort.

im using a superior OS
>>48456
It breaks all the fucking time and forces you to spend inordinate amounts of time on setup and maintenance. Use CentOS.
>>48485
That looks awful.

messy as fuck, would be cozy but the red ruins it
can't run ultima online on arch linux
Because I don't like having to work for keeping my operating system in order, searching for guides and answers online for mundane things which I need to do on my computer, it doesn't support all the software I want to and I don't have a particular problem with the OS I use now, especially not one which would make me switch.

Is this true? I've been running Debian sid for the past 6 months or something but have considered switching to Arch because of how great everyone says it is.

debian is straight garbo
Because I like Mint.

I'm too lazy.
Can I get it running on a RasPi?
>>50517
I don't know. Can you?
There's a setup guide for the RasPi in the Arch wiki, so it should work fine.

I don't do illegal things online so windows 7 is fine too.
>>48456
I would, but games & Adobe...
I do have a MMC with something on it in case I want to duel boot, but never do.
If you have GNU Linux you should run PirateBox. Fun stuff.
>>48456
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>Ctrl+f
>no "Gentoo"
Plebs the lot of hou.
Arch and it are in the same tier for sure, but even Archfags know deep down that Gentoo is that small iota higher.
>>51266
I've never tried Gentoo just because it sounds like too much work to get installed. I'd give Sabayon a shot, but for now I prefer Arch and Debian.
Is there a point in using a windows if i'm not a programmer?
I'm considering keeping a Windows PC for video games and buying a laptop to shitpost, surf on the internet, watch anime and do other conveniences with. Since it seems to be a fad on 4chan I'm wondering if it's really good for a pleb like me. At the very least I'll have some variety, a Windows and a Linux. Idk. Advice?
>>51490
*a linux if I'm not a programmer
oops sorry D:
>>51490
>Is there a point in using a linux if i'm not a programmer?
How did you come to the conclusion that Linux is for programming? I'm not trying to give you shit, I just keep hearing it and don't understand why people say it.
>Advice?
Install Virtualbox, download some ISOs, install different distros and play around. I'd recommend trying Ubuntu/Ubuntu MATE, Manjaro, Antergos, or Fedora. Don't start with Arch or Gentoo.
>>48753
I doubt that. But it sounds like you have no reason to run linux, and that's still fine.
>>50992
If you can write python, the GIMP works just as well, and linux power users generally can, so they won't pay, so there's no money in it.
>>51177
Linux runs great in a virtual machine. You don't need to dual boot. You can run both at once.
>>48456
Because, I'm an Ubuntu fag.
oh.. but I am
>>48456
because i can't be arsed to spend time configuring or compiling my operating system to make it run and do things i want it to do. and it won't do all the things i want it to do.
so windows 10 it is.
>>48456
What benefits are there to it?
I don't plan on switching over now but if my current computer craps out (as I expect to happen any day now), I might try it out as I can't stand Windows 10.
>>51698
You get to pretend you're better than everybody else.

>modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia not found in directory /lib/modules/4.8.7-1-ARCH
You should look into that
Is this the desktop thread?
>>51740
Not unless you run arch linux
>>51723
NAh, I did it deliberately.
I couldn't get the nvidia graphics to work so I made it so it only uses the intel graphics.
I'm running a dual-boot with Windows 10, which I only use for vidya, the nvidia GPU works just fine on there.
It isn't the best solution, but at the time of installation I think my CPU and chipset were too new to get it to work, idk...
Might look into it again in a couple of months...
>gimp
>>48456
tried to set up, got confused in some of the vagueness of the efivars shit, installed debian instead
no regrets
Honest question, what advantages does Arch have over Debian stable or testing? I need to find a distro to transition away from Windows since it looks like it's permanently cancerous now.
>>48456
