Do you think you have ever been unfairly banned from 4chan?
>>
A few times but posting on 4chan is a privilege not a right.
>>
>>44332
Yeah, in that the few day or two bans I've had over the past 8 years have been over things that really never should have been banable.

Like, they put wordfilters blocking out the names of competitor's websites (like the one that's 4chan but double) and they ban people that dodge those filters. Of course I was trying to discuss the pros/cons of the new website soon after the brand new word filters started blocking shit so I got a few day ban because of it. If they're going to ban people for stuff like that, they would put site-wide stickies up mentioning the new rules.

Becides that my bans are all "mods happen to be abusing their power" bans. Like, years ago I would post lolis on /a/ and eventually when loli porn became a no-no I got rid of all of it, but still got 2 bans from mods that must just hate loli in general.

A couple of times. Really pissed me off.
>>
Once my whole apartment complex got permabanned while I was in college.

I had to set up a VPN tunnel back to my house to continue posting.
>>
>>44332
yes, all the time
>>
>>44332
I've been unfairly rangebanned, because 4chin needed my shekels
But my bans have probably been legitimate, though I don't see any global rule preventing me from posting in Italian even when not on /int/

Yeah. A month or two ago, It was on /trash/ so I was technically in the wrong, but someone was spamming gore in a thread i frequent so i reported his posts. I then got banned for 3 days for "abusing the report system".
>>
>>44354
I'm still surprised they decided to keep >/trash/ a thing but not put it on the list of boards. /vip/ got added in after a day, but Trash is too evil I guess.

Its better this way. Ironically, it helps to hide the place from certain undesirables.

Went to /co/ once.

The janitors there are some of the biggest vaginas I have ever seen. I thought /v/ had it bad.
>>
Got banned for election banter in an unrelated thread right after trump won florida.

Not unfair at all, but it makes me wonder how many people they banned that night.
Goddamn.
Every active thread was on fire with that shit.
>>
>>44332
No, just the recipient of bans bans through ip changes
>>
It's very hard to get banned if you follow the fundamental rules. Mods here aren't very strict.
>>
>>44384
what boards do you browse? because on most of them they'll ban you for nothing in a heartbeat
>>
>>44332
Only on my mobile when travelling because Some daft cunt decided to do something stupid on a particular areas IP range but that's about it.

I've had plenty of warnings and mostly for doing the right thing like reporting threads that actually break the rules of the forum...
>>
/co/ banned me for calling a character a nigger. A white character, at that.
>>

I got banned for I don't even know how long because I didn't click the popup. Made a post a few minutes later to see if I was banned and to continue the conversation then got banned for a month and a half in late 2015. One time I made a Walking Dead image that looked like spam as the start of a thread as a joke and got permabanned, but I appealed and explained and they reinstated me.

I got banned for a few days from posting in a thread about how easy it was to get into Hillary's phonebank. Mods considered it a raid thread and I guess they were right in hindsight.

There were a couple temp bans that I thought were mistakes or unfair, but I can't even remember what they were about.

I have been posting here for over a decade after all.

>>44332
Yep, I got banned for ban evading when I posted a cap from when I got banned three different times for the same series of posts. I think they thought that I was evading in the middle of it, but it was literally a "mods are asleep, post X" situation and apparently different mods saw fit to give me bans individually for different posts.

If that's hard to follow, here's the break down
>post a bunch of shit that's banned on a specific board one night while the mods are asleep
>go to bed
>wake up and see several ban notifications in series for the same shit on different posts
>cap it because it's funny
>post it a couple months later when people are talking about bans because it's funny and relevant
>get banned for ban evasion

I've been banned my fair share of times, but that was the one time where I actually got banned without doing anything that was against the rules at that time. I was quite frustrated. Past that I deserved every ban I got and then some.

I will also ad in my defense that I haven't broken the rules in quite a while and have no intention of doing so in the near futureregardless of how tempting it might be sometimes

>pic completley unrelated

its always something you've done before, other posters are currently doing, but a mod looks at you the wrong way or whatever, and in this one specific instance you get a ban, whereas it would have gone unchecked previously.
>>
>>44332
I got banned once in a general thread for talking about >tfw no gf.

It was in response to a long string of replies, but I think only I got banned. 3 days for fucking nothing.
>>
I've only been deservedly banned a few times for short periods of time, for shitposting too hard.

Aside from that, I was unjustly banned once, but that was because I tried to post the "The Surgeon is inspired" copypasta and found out the hard way that you get indefinately autobanned with instructions to get some antivirus and message the mods to be unbanned (this was a few years after it died out, but as far as I know that system is still active). That only took a quick message to fix.

Plenty of times on my home board for complaining about the moderation among other things. I got banned from all boards for a month for posting horsecock on /b/. Bullshit since they cited the reason as the rule stating you can't post anything in violation of US law, except it's legal in my state. I rarely get banned or warned but my only problem is that it tends to be extremely random. I'll say and do much worse on a regular, unrelenting basis in /tv/, then I'll get struck down for something comparatively tame out of the blue.

Random unpredictable punishments are the most frustrating.

One time I accidentally posted something on /vg/ instead of /a/ because I had both boards open. I reported my own thread because I couldn't delete it. Then I got a site-wide 3-day ban.

I mean, it was a pretty obvious and simple mistake, I don't think I deserved to be punished. Some mods would just delete the thread and (nowadays) issue a warning. So it seemed unnecessarily harsh. Especially since it was site-wide. Why don't mods use board-specific bans more often?

Anyways most of my bans I have agreed with. I usually realize I crossed the line after the ban comes through.
>>
In ye oldfag days when things were never good certain days almost everybody got banned, so you didn't think much of it

But in nu-chan there have been a couple instances, yeah. It's whatever
>>
>>44332
Talking in a One Piece thread on /co/ got me, and I assume most everyone else in that thread a 24 hour ban. A little extreme but it was technically against the rules so I can't fault the mod.

The one that stung a bit was on /tg/. Perfectly normal /tg/ thread and a little off topic discussion crops up like normal.
In this sub-discussion I wrote in a "polite sage for off topic post." I got slapped with a 24 hour ban under GR7.
>>
>>46876
Oh and one time I got banned on /wsg/ for posting a bit from Danger 5 that has tits.
Op asked for random webms, no checking what they are first. And in my defense, I got it from /wsg/ in the first place.
>>
I earned every ban I got. For a while people thought I was the dickspammer on /fit/ back in 2009, I'm sure that didn't help much.

Bans used to be a badge of honor, not sure why people get so assblasted about them these days.
>>
I get banned at college sometimes because it seems to think I have a proxy going. Must be the schools wifi or something, probably not secure enough.

And when I appealed it explaining everything to the best of my knowledge, they denied my appeal lol
>>
>>46896
They probably denied it because there's no point in lifting the ban on a shared IP. Even if they can trust you to behave perfectly, there's probably idiots who purposefully use their college IP to post bannable stuff on so their home IP doesn't get banned.
>>
Got banned on /sp/ for bantz. If I can't link the Vikings to nords to swedes to being a cuckold who wants a big black no longer elite quarterback to drop his superior PoC seed in your wife and wife's daughter, then truly we are the dead!
>>
>>44332

Apparently, >>>/ck/ janitors think they are the SS or something. They are amazingly anal about posting pictures of non-food.

And on /diy/ you can get banned for any mention of a weapon no matter how ridiculous

Also once I got banned off of /g/ for racism but it seems that this rule is never enforced so idk

>>44333

are you a literal cuck? We all paid for the pass.
>>
>>46894
>For a while people thought I was the dickspammer on /fit/ back in 2009
How the fuck does that work? This is an anonymous website, nobody "thought" you were anything unless you're a tripfag, and in that case you deserve a ban for abusing tripcodes when you don't need one.
>>
>>46433
You can't use /vip/ and then complain that 8 is slow. 8/b/ is basically /vip/ without the /vip/ memes and a bit faster. No banana memes, either. I like /vip/ and 8 specifically BECAUSE they're not lightning paced, this topic is almost a month old and it's still on the first page with only like 70 replies.

I was banned for posting a butt (like no visible asshole or pussy just a butt) on /v/. Normally I'd agree to keep ass off blue boards but /v/ posts some seriously lewd stuff. Little boi penis with a tiny black bar perpendicularly censoring it, cow tits with visible nipple bumps nearly bursting out of bras, vulva and camel toe pushing through shorts, and also just as much ass on a regular basis as my one photo had. Admittedly my photo was just of an ex so maybe if I made it look like an Overwatch character with MS paint they would have let it slide. Don't get me wrong though the ban itself was fair, I just think the circumstances around it wasn't.
>>
>>46818
I think all bans should be site wide. And without that pussy shit of being able to browse while banned that moot implemented.

Had a one-day ban once for making post 6666666 on a board, but that was years ago. Then recently I got accidentally banned for posting in a thread where, according to the mod on the IRC that got the ban lifted, every single post (except for mine) was from the same guy arguing with himself, who was the one actually doing the ban evading. Luckily, in that case, the mod was able to see that I was using a pass and it stood out from the rest of the deleted posts. But I think he also said that the janitors can't see it unless you're using the since4pass marker.

>>
>>44413

>>
>>44332
Yes. One time I was browsing the old text boards in lynx. There was a text field below the submit button that said "do not type in this field" and I typed in the field. When I posted I was banned for 3 days.

Why put a text field there that I'm not allowed to type into?
>>
>>47274

>>
>>44332

I think I've been banned for some really stupid fucking reasons. Some I can possibly I agree with, but others I honestly have no idea how I got banned for other than the mod being a cunt.

I had a 3 day ban from all board for 'racism' on /sci/.

So I'm back from getting my office banned for 30 days thanks to a RETROACTIVE ban evasion (they deleted a thread I already had on the board at the time I got banned).

SORRY I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS GOING TO BE BANNED FOR ANOTHER POST WHEN I MADE THAT THREAD.
>>
Couple of three day bans have been harsh. One specific one sticks out as bewildering.

I was once banned for posting in /deutch/ when other generals decided to raid it, I explained I was just caught in the net and they freed me early.
>>
No, not really.

My apartment complex routes entire buildings through one IP and so occasionally someone will get the entire building banned. It's almost always because of some guy who posts rule 34 on /v/

>>44353
In the past, there was a global rule which forbid using non-English outside of /int/, but that was changed not too long ago.
>>
one time i was posting clop in a worksafe board because my friends were doing it and the mods tagged me for ban evasion because they thought my friends and i were the same person, but they repealed the ban after about a week. it was a 3 month ban.

It was /ck/ for me as well.
>>
>>44332
Yeah, for basically being on the wrong sides of arguments from the mods. Everyone was off topic, but only half of us got banned for it. They should be using it instead of just doling out bans to shut people up.

>>
i feel like ever since board specific bans were put in place that every time i've been given a site wide ban it was bullshit.

sometimes a retard mod has banned everyone who replied to an off topic thread instead of just deleting the thread and banning the op. how mad with power do you have to be to do that
>>
I was permanently banned instantly for supposedly uploading "child porn." Pics that I downloaded from /b/ that I uploaded to /nsfwrequests/. When it really was a 19 year old cam girl that went by the name of lil sara. I deleted it from my computer because I didn't want to be in possession of "cp "until I came across the same gif on imgur and decided to reverse image search it where I finally got her name and age indexed by google. /diy/ has this anti-weapon thing

it's kind of like how most boards don't care about how unrelated your picture is but on the cooking board it absolutely has to be food or they ban you.

If you say anything weapon related on /diy/ the jannies get triggered

I got banned in some thread about a guy trying to stop a dog from shitting in his lawn by suggesting he build an anti personel mine out of nails duct tape as an obvious joke
>>

I once got banned for going on /pol/ (haven't been since) and making a post saying "all niggers are terrible. Debate"

Seemed like a good discussion point to me but to the mods....
>>
Unfair bans for me were, I share an ip with an asshole who finds it fun to harass people on the site in ways that get you banned, While I can't dispute the bans are justified, what I fucking hate is I pay for the goddamn pass, I want my ip address added to the list of can't post from this ip without paying for a pass list so shithead cant post.

I get those bans

Also got a few when rules changed, or rules that aren't rules get enforced, hard to explain if you don't go to the boards, not saying boards because fuck it.

but the one ban that was completely undeserved was a 3 month under age ban... I told a story from when I was a kid, apparently the "When I was" in front of the fucking story was not enough. I go to appeal the fucking thing, 'your appeal is denied' it took 2 weeks of wanting to participate in threads for me to remember you use to be directed to irc to see about unbanning, so made a small video with my id to try and get me unbanned... thank fucking god that worked. as sad as it is, 4chan is the only social outlet I enjoy interacting with and I missed it.

got a few for images a long time ago to, none of them bad, none of them rule breaking, so now I just have one image I post everywhere If I need to make a thread.

Really wish 4chan would start banning by board instead of site wide.
>>
>>46894
>Bans used to be a badge of honor, not sure why people get so assblasted about them these days.
Because they're templated now.
>>
Yes, I was given a permaban for being OFFTOPIC on /a/.

Permabans are for people spamming cp or doxxing and begging le /b/ army to go lynch somebody or something; a three-day ban or warning is enough for being offtopic.

And it was from ALL boards, not just /a/.
It stuck to my pass, but it doesn't seem to work for some reason.

Like, I should be permabanned from /mu/ because I've done awful things on /mu/, but stealing a thread is not enough to warrant a permaban.

I've had many more unfair bans, but this has to be the worst, but for some reason the least relevant.

I just got off a 24 hour ban for responding to one of those "[x] will happen if you don't respond to this post" threads on /pol/. What the fuck? Those aren't against the rules, and if they are the person who should be punished is the one who posted it.

I posted a link to a file share site, spaced it and got rid of the unnecessary bits. Got banned for using "Banned Text" on /b/. On top of that it went for all boards as well

I just got off a month long ban, an idk if I should really come back or not... I tried out not just ban evading and actually figuring out other ways to kill time. I got back into video games tho so idk if I did a good job or not.
