"Overwhelming" is 100% subjective, so we can just leave that out.

Tf2 comes to mind as a game I've played that has completely unnecessary customization that is actually detrimental to the game. Retarded cosmetics and the option to paint them whatever color ypu want completely shit on the game's aesthetic and most unlocks are either situational trash or straight upgrades to stock.

I haven't played much in the way of the Souls series, but it was pretty apparent when I was playing Bloodborne that you get the best weapons and armor right at the start and using anything else is literally just for role-playing or countering specific bosses.

On the other hand you have Max Payne 3. Where the game wants to show you something to the left of you, so it takes control away from you to force you to look in that direction. this is clumsy and jarring, a bad cutscene.

Metal Gear Solid 5: cutscenes made completely in in-game engine, tying neatly together to your gameplay, while the game itself unfinished the cutscenes are well done.

It REALLY depends on the game and how they handle cutscenes, but they are not bad by themselves.

Giantdad was a desperate attempt to make a build that was previously overpowered and everywhere (Elemental weapons were more powerful and Father Mask was better and Flip Ring worked at 50%) making the Giantdad build was min-maxed to the extreme because there was no room for variation.

Giantdad became popular because the video was hilarious, not because it was actually an overpowers build. It wrecked people who didn't know how to escape stun lock or parry.
