Chie's thing is high crit phys skills. That's why giving her apt pupil in P4G was good. She's very useful against gold hands in P4G for that reason. At least until Almighty takes over as the preferred strategy for killing them.

She's also the only character that gets a meaningful progression of all-enemy phys skills. Because of that and her ability to crit hit so well, I prefer her to Kanji while exploring dungeons. Kanji is definitely better in boss fights though, except for Margaret where Dragon Hustle is so useful.

Chie in vanilla is only good for early game where you don't have an alternative, and at the very end once she gets Agneyastra and God Hand. She has a huge lull in the mid levels where all she has is shit-tier AoE heat wave and single-target Black Spot that is outpreformed by Kanji's single-target skills. The only thing she really has over Kanji in that timeframe is maybe getting a status ailment off of Skull Cracker if you keep it around that long, and Galactic Punt.

Kanji also gets better buffs and spells than her and has more utility.

Well, I'm playing NG+ in vanilla and Chie is a very positive surprise so far. I'm at 44 level, just before Mitsuo shadow.

To be honest, she's the hardest hitting character for now - her ice spells kick ass, multi-hit physicals are nice, but I mainly use Kohryu to rape enemies anyway. I like that her follow-up attack is an instant kill. I also have had no problems with her missing. Maybe RNG is with me on this one.

Haven't had a single person die yet, except at Contrarian King when he Rampaged my ass at lvl 16. Mara with absorb physical makes this fight easy, though.

My team for original playthrough was Yosuke, Kanji and Yukiko. For this one, I kept in Chie instead of Kanji.

You give her the item that halves SP consumption. She can use Dragon Hustle three times then without needing an item. That's good for 9 turns, which is more than worth it when it saves you so many turns on other characters casting buffs.

Personally I like Naoto for most fights because she's the fastest and ends the battles in one turn. If a fight is going to be effortless it might as well be over instantly.

I hope P5 takes some hints from some things in PQ. Elemental physical based attacks are really really nice to have.

You're spending one turn every nine rounds to give her SP. That's opposed to spending a bunch of turns casting the buffs individually every three rounds. Dragon Hustle is great. It is THE best extra skill for the all the party members, except maybe Yukiko's.

And you can still power charge. She has ~290 SP at level 99. With the half SP item dragon hustle cost 75 SP so using it three times takes 225 SP. Which leaves plenty of SP for 15 SP power charge.

Except when resources are so common and so easy to replenish, it does nothing. It's like a bullet sponge boss in an FPS when you have a nearly endless supply of ammo. After the first dungeon (or few floors of Tartarus in the case of 3) SP isn't really much of an issue. Why the hell not? When every place you check shits on it and lists pretty much the same reasons why it's bad, no matter where you go then there must be something wrong with it. If you are familiar with the franchise/source material you can also determine if you are going to enjoy or hate it by looking at the complaints. Just repeating other peoples' opinion sure is retarded, but reviews like that also work as warnings. The few scenes you mentioned, and I'm guessing are the Adachi episodes and the Christmas, episode are nice to watch and are also brought up every time someone asks if P4GA is worth watching.

I can't for the life of me understand how people think JRPG and WRPG are different genres of RPG as opposed to a geographic difference. Let's put our heads together here, folks. JRPG stands for Japanese Role-Playing Game. WRPG stands for Western Role-Playing Game. In an ideal world these stupid titles wouldn't exist because in the end, regardless of where a game is made, it's a ROLE-PLAYING GAME. Regardless, we're stuck with the names, but every time there's a discussion on the top WRPG of the year, some fool has to mention Dark Souls.

It's a JRPG. No, JRPG is not a genre. Action RPG is a genre, which Dark Souls is.

And I know some people will say, "but Dark Souls is nothing like Final Fantasy." That's because Final Fantasy isn't an action-RPG, but they're both JRPGs. You wouldn't go and say King's Bounty and Deus Ex aren't both WRPGs because they play completely differently from one another, so why try and separate Dark Souls from other JRPGs?

Dark Souls is just as much of an action-RPG as Tales of Vesperia is and just as much of an action-RPG as Mass Effect is. You are in full control of your characters actions and success is based just as much on your reflexes as it is your stats.

So let's stamp out the ignorance already, JRPG is not a genre. I don't get why so many users here try and act like JRPGs all suck, but when they find one they like, it suddenly isn't a JRPG.

JRPG kinda is a genre, though. Yes, it is synonymous with turn based RPG's like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, etc. so people will use the term JRPG to refer to those games. I never said Dark Souls was a WRPG, just that it wasn't a JRPG. But obviously there are problems with a genre being specified by where it was made. If I had it my way, the terms JRPG and WRPG would both disappear from existence and we'd be more specific with what games are called.
