You can use them on Eve. Any planet with an atmosphere works, but their efficiency depends on how thick the atmosphere is which is why they ain't that good on Duna. Atmosphere of eve is really thick.

I also think that you can cut something to reduce useless clutter. Like Zeonium existing at all, xenon could be a by-product of the compressor when you pass air through it.
Or the fact that there is a compressor and a fuel compressor, they can be the same element.
fuel cells should be at the bottom, near the engines. Hexagen could go in the trash bin too.

Maybe you could try to make so that propellium and oxium are already LF and oxydizer, as there is only an extra 1:1 step in between them
and maybe make so you propellium=/=hydrogen, so propelium aka kerosene is got only underground and on eve's oceans, while hydrogen is a low density fuel that is used or in nukes for best ISP or in normal engines with tweakables for a boost in ISP. but SQUAD would never implement that

Goddammit I love improvising and jury rigging solutions in KSP.

Once, I didn't have enough fuel on my Mun lander and had to make Jeb abandon the lander and jump out mid flight to circularize his orbit for the ship rendezvous with his goddamn jetpack.

And now, my Duna ship was critically low on fuel during the return and I used about 500 units of monopropellant to shave off 150 m/s off my return kickburn to Kerbin, and got another 100 m/s out of my fuel thanks to the reduced weight. It made the difference between being trapped in solar orbit and staying in Kerbin's SOI.

This is fun.

I'm doing a parts-vanilla career mode run on Moderate with a focus on shuttle-type vehicles.

Early-game highlights include:

You should've done it more like a vessel-to-vessel rendezvous, and less like typical transfer. More altering your orbit to match Mohos and then catching up to it (or vice versa), so that way you can get around the low TWR issue.

Okay. KSP is more about getting your ship to not crash, setting up space stations, landing on the moon, a bit of sim... that kind of thing?

I haven't run across a videogame that has that whole "plan and execute the exploration and exploitation of the solar system" angle of High Frontier yet.

The key part there is the exploitation. HF is essentially about that, the whole point is to get out there and land on shit to get whats there. Stock (base game) KSP has none of that, it's a "build your own Apollo program" game. You can get mods to introduce ISRU, or the more exotic techs from HF, or even making bases and things, but still nowhere near HF levels. It's also lacking a lot of things in the construction element (for example, there are no radiators whatsoever).

HF is more of a 4x, KSP is a simplified sim with light heartened tone, and a fairly crappy "tycoon" mode.

I guess they're helpful for a quick TWR push at launch or even RATO on jets though. I'm the anon who's been trying to make retroFuture + activeTextureManagement + 0.90 work, and I think I've found the problem. Almost every part in retroFuture contains a few blank 1x1 pixel "texture" images that share names with the actual textures contained in the texture directory, and I think this is killing ATM whenever it touches one of those. I went through by hand and deleted a bunch of the 1x1 images and it loads through those parts just fine now. Is there an easy way to automate this process (on my windows box) so I can get all these apparently unneeded blank 1x1 .pngs out of there, instead of going through every single one by hand?

This is in one of the .cfgs for a part it used to crash on consistently, if I understand what's going on here it's calling the model from the .mu located in this same part directory and calling texture from both the 1x1 texture in the directory but also the actual texture in the textures directory. As you can see, both textures, real and blank, share the same name, and I think I remember the ATM guy saying duplicate filenames of the same type (.png in this case) will crash ATM.

I guess what I don't know is if when it's calling both those textures, is it going to only use one (whichever one contains data, i.e. the real one) or is it putting together an amalgam of both and me deleting the "blank" one will mess up the look of the part in-game?
