The more I play PQ the more I realize how much I prefer P3 cast and plot over P4G.

P4 is what happens when every main character is a mary sue protagonist, like how Shinjiro from P3 is an actual thug, while Kanji is a 'tough guy with a soft side' cliche

I just like how they felt like real people (to me) in P3. And, at least at the start, they weren't even fucking friends. Junpei even dislikes you for a long time. It's like, they came together and forged their bonds through their own trials, and also came to their own personal realizations, and by the end of the whole thing were just a lot more mature and just better people (aside from yukashit)

And then in P4 they were just this group of pretty much already established friends who just added more friends into their big group hug and just had all this fun together. There was optional character development in the SLs but of course it doesn't change anything in the main story so it's pointless. Then they save the day and get to live all happily ever after, and their best buddy can take the train back whenever he wants, so there's hardly even any sad feelings at the end. I mean I'm exaggerating a bit, but I just enjoyed every aspect of P3 more except the gameplay. It just felt so much deeper to me.

I can't say they all change drastically. Yeah, Fuuka is probably the most shallow character (second to a fucking dog of course) but I mean, look at pretty much everyone else. They're kind of forced to change themselves due to what happens to them throughout the game. It's not like their personalities completely turn on their heads or anything but, shit, just look at Junpei. He was the biggest joke of the group and really didn't give a shit about any of it, but probably was the most mature one about their situation in the answer. I mean it's not like some finely crafted masterpiece of character development, but it felt significant to me and certainly was compared to P4.

I would argue that every single one of these drove character development at least marginally. Not every change was as notable as say Junpei's or Aigis's, but I think a good amount of attention was given to each of the characters, since all players have to get the same minimal level of development from all characters (except for the fucking dog). If you want more from any character, play their SL, simple as that.

I'm not sure how to elaborate without giving a laundry list of generic crap that you'd expect to hear. I liked the characters a lot and liked the banter. I liked the setting and I felt there was a lot of detail put into it that made it feel very tight and coherent. I liked the general theme and even with its flaws I liked the story. Compared to P3, I just didn't enjoy it as much -- characters, setting, plot, etc, I always felt there was something a little hollow to it that I didn't feel with P4.

Though I imagine P3fags see it the same way, just swapped the other way around.
