Ah, magic resistance is useful seeing how I am barely getting vit. Some one told me that even elemental gun skills are based physical. I kind of see it too because evetime my str increases so does my damage.
>play Strange Journey for the first time
>Your classification is: Support:Physical
That sounds lame as fuck. Does this mean I'm on stat buffing duty or some lame shit like that?
Anyone playing Jack Bros other than me? It's really not that bad...
I'm really enjoying it. You pretty much summed it up, yeah. It is timed which makes it a bit more difficult so that's good. The labyrinths are really well designed and fun(of course the earlier ones are easier and less complex). The layers give it a cool 3D effect despite the fact that I'm emulating it. Plus, I've always liked Pyro Jack so it's fun to play as him. All in all a fun little time sink if you're a fan of SMT.
I tried to make a funny. It didn't work out so well.
Yeah, see, this guy kinda had the same train of thought here.
The way those four were posed kinda reminded me of that one KISS poster there was. I don't have a picture of it and am too lazy to look it up, but it's pretty iconic, so I figured it's be a pretty easy reference to get. Oh well.
Post your favorite Demons, /smtg/.
I'm not sure why, but i'm quite fond of Nadja.
>Persona 2 IS
>Persona 3 FES
>Devil Survivor 2
Enhanced ports excluded, have I played everything that's been released in Europe? (+ some that's not).
The bad ass motherfucker known as Setanta.
Not only does he have a vicious bowl cut, he also wears a scarf. A SCARF!! Have you ever seen a nigga that rocks a scarf, and still fucks people up? He might be the only person in history to do so.
Cu chewy a shit, Setanta is the superior alter ego.
Currently finishing Devil Survivor Overclocked after taking a break and i'm at Beldr, which is where i took a break. I've forgotten a lot about this game, what kind of team setups did you guys use to beat them and at what level? Also, do you have dedicated healing teams or a healer slapped in with every team?
Not to mention he beat a Guard dog (And if SMT IV's fusion listings are any indication, a frickin' DORMARTH at that) to death with his BARE GODDAMN HANDS. As a CHILD.
Setanta cannot be contested.
I always tried to have a healer in every team. I also miss-matched the demons based on the skills of the leaders. So put magic based demons with Atsuro who was physical and physical demons with Yuzu. MC's team was always a boss killer team full of magic of as many elements as possible.
Making a team specifically for healing is just a bad idea imo since they'd have to run across the board and risk getting in fights they can't win jsut to heal a team that could've healed themselves.
It was already invalid. There's literally no tumblr here. Just fucking 300lb fat autists who literally think the feminists track them down to every corner of the internet to persecute them. We absolutely do need to crack down on autism to keep the board from going to shit.
ur a faget
Its true that there's nothing wrong, but he's hardly the only one who complains. Literally everyone complains, but about different things. Its tedious, and everyone should just stop.
Ok. I need your advice to see if this demon sounds durable enough to aid me in my quest to slay Beelzabitch.
Demon: Huang Long
Resists: Gun, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind.
Null: Light, Dark.
Skills: Draconic Reaction, War Cry, Megido, Fog breath, Resist Gun, Samarecarm, Nihil Claw, Counter.
SHALL THIS SUFFICE, OR MUST I GAIN FURTHER POWER?
AAAAAAH, BUT IN THERE LIES MY GENIUS, ANON.
FOR YOU SEE, I ALWAYS HAVE A CHERUB, WHO I HAVE RAISED FROM A MERE ANGEL, FUSED FROM NAPAE AND MOKOI! WITH HIS WEAKNESS TO LIGHTNING, HE SHAN'T SPAM MEGIDOLAON.
And. AAAAAND, WITH ANANTA NULLIFYING LIGHTNING, BUT NOT GUNS, HE SHALL ALWAYS HAVE A SUPPOSED MEANS OF ATTACK, BUT CANNOT GAIN EXTRA PRESS TURNS (critical hits not withstanding)!
I EXPRESS MY GROWING MADNESS WITH CAPSLOCK! HAVE YOU NOTICED!?
>Persona 3 and 4 are some of the best RPGs I've played
>/v/ tells me those games are for casuals and that I should try another
>decide to play Persona 2 because I really want to play a new purseowner
>its complete and utter shit, has nothing that made p3 and p4 the amazing games they are let alone what a good jrpg should have
>"but it has a good story, p-pleb!"
>decide to try a real SMT, pick up SMTIV
>its boring and mediocre, get the $30 deal and return it
So tell me, why do you nerds obsess with such outdated and shitty games? Are you you accomplishing some holy mission for the church of fedora by fighting the evil Persona series, or what?
I don't care much about VNs, but the greatest part of the Persona series is how well it blends VNs and RPGs. Meanwhile, the other SMTs have absolutely no redeeming qualities at all
>using 'the Persona series' to refer only to 3 and 4
>the other SMTs have absolutely no redeeming qualities at all
What the hell are you even doing in this general and who are you quoting?
Your level of shitposting is through the roof, honestly.
No, you guys made me play these absolutely horrible games and I demand an explanation for it
They also don't list any 'SMT' games besides Nocturne. Soul Hackers, SMTIV, Strange Journey, and P1/P2 are listed under the 'general' category.
Yeah, I made a post yesterday about extracting the script from the ISO itself. It's separated into blocks sort of like the scenario sheets, just not in the same order.
>talk with the guy doing programming for DebiSama
>insertion is a go
>he apparently also has other megaten projects in the works
>ask them about some of them
>SMT1 psx translation programming
>join effort between him, Gideon and
The last one blew my mind
Canzah's smt1, 2 and if psx translations, there was some dude who claimed he was canzah and that he cancelled them because he hates /smtg/ or something, but i guess that was someone pretending seeing as its apparently still being worked on
It's quite a varied team, but EsperKnight is a good guy, I can say that much.
I just love everything about this little guy.
The iOS version has butchered translation, is locked at 15 FPS and uses the awful GBA version as base. It's been censored in the west due to Apple USA policies, hence why butchered translation. They also didn't put effort into getting VWF (Variable Width Font) to work with it, so they had to cut out like 30% of text in the game due to lack of space enforced by FWF (Fixed Width Font).
iPhone version is shit, get the patched version (Read the tips pastebin on the OP) and get comfy while you watch your mom get eaten by a demon and turn your dog into a cooler dog.
Well, if I had to say, that Viscera Cleanup Detail game seemed neat. I kind of enjoy fixing up stuff.
Alright, thanks. It's kinda dumb, but i was leaning towards an Iphone for my new phone because of some games, and SMT was one of them, but i just would hate myself for getting one too.
I don't mind. It's your gift, after all.
How long do you think it will take P5 to get a localization?
Not long. They localized SMT IV pretty fast.
I'm thinking it comes out a month or two after.
How long do you think it will take P5 to get a European release?
>tfw you'll have to leave /smtg/ for several months after P5 comes out in japan
>mfw he's from Atlus USA
Just as planned
you have plenty of reason to be frightened
>The physical versions of Raidou 1 and 2 still haven't gone down in price after the PSN releases and after being reprinted
So, we had some preliminary success.
crashes after the second text box though
Today, DebiSama is making progress, I've found a Rosetta stone of romhacking in Strange Journey and I've read one of my favorite fantranslation groups is working on the first Devil Survivor.
This is truly a great day!
I'm not talking about English translations, you dummy.
Ahh, sorry. I do this way too frequently...
In any case, I still wonder why there's no translation projects in other languages.
¡No, tú! Culture diversity and the spreading of SMT in other languages are nice things.
Al menos haz una traduccion que no se escuche tan retardada.
Oooh, shit looks nice. I'm native Mexa and can speak English damn well, I'd have liked to join this translation team if it wasn't already full.
Don't like how they change the demon names, though. I think they're just fine in English.
No idea. I remember the 'full inventory' message appearing whenever your inventory is full and you try to remove a curse, because it puts the cursed weapon back in your item list.
I got an untranslated line once when trying to revive a demon in the first Healer, but it never happened again and I never got to know what was that.
I swear I had a screenshot, but I can't find it.
The SJ screenshot is from a project I started more than a year ago but I haven't been able to make progress until today.
The DeSu translation is here:
These guys' translations are of professional quality.
About name changes, do you say Fairy in Spanish, or Hada? Has it ever been Fairy in Spanish? It just makes no sense to leave them in English when they are creatures from myths and folklore, not characters with names inspired by them.
I mean, it's not like you would leave Hitoshura in an English translation of Nocturne, right?
Hah, I wish that was me. But I never did something like that back in high school, and I won't have to do that in college.
Hm, that's fair enough, I guess. Just gives me bad flashbacks to shit like Pokemon localizing names for no reason.
Yeah, I suppose I'd change the ones that held a meaning and/or already had a name in Spanish.
Is that bad? ;__;
>Analyze from a psychoanalytic perspective the topics of different and mechanics of various games, tentatively:
>implying PS1 version of SMT1 isn't the best
>implying the SNES version of it doesn't look like ass with texture-less walls/floors
SMT2 SNES is fine since it at least has textures.
You don't. Follow the will of Jimenez, herald of the best alignment: Chaotic Latino.
Pokémon has always had localized names in every single localization, and it's a huge part of its charm. It's part of the charm of most Nintendo franchises.
Hell, I even started a project to translate every single critter! Because of the 1st gen translators we have the English names for them and the Kanto NPCs, and shit like 'Contador'. Frenchies and Germans have everything localized, so why not us?
It was mostly for giggles, and I only have a spreadsheet with the changed names.
But this is a pretty different case. It's like translating 'chair' to 'silla'. Almost all of them are very small changes because they are mostly specific figures with different names because of phonetics, so it's not like you won't know that Odín is Odin.
I make progress really slowly, mostly because I fear working on different projects at the same time. If I have more than one, I only stop working on one whenever I finish a big, differentiated chunk of it. Lemme finish this first.
I doubt it, since I only shared it with my siblings and friends.
The coolest name I came up with was Alfilado, because Bisharp comes from Bishop and Sharp, and Alfilado from Alfil (Bishop) and Afilado (Sharp). It's perfect!
The idea was to at least make a hackrom of Red and Blue with the first 151, but some names were really awkward and I forgot about it.
By the way, I don't know if I ever posted this here, but DeSu2's code contains compendium entries for demon bosses from the first DeSu. Beldr, Jezebel, Belberith, those guys.
Post the recording's URL. It shouldn't be hard to find, since you'd visit the Inokashira Park Healer twice at most in a normal playthrough.
>fighting Captain Jack in Strange Journey
>guide says I should try to Charm him
>using level 43 Zaccoum with Frolic
>literally all of them miss
Is there any buff that increases your accuracy with status spells? Should I just go and grind this shitty tree a few levels, maybe fuse it into something more level-appropriate for the fight?
Weird. There is only one string for 'Full inventory' in the rom, and I am pretty sure it said 'Your inventory is full' in Japanese. But it's the same message you get with curses...
It's very late and I am sleepy, so I'll look into it tomorrow. It could be a random bug of the game itself, and if that's the case I cannot do anything about it.
What kind of failure uses a guide, especially on their first playthrough? If it were your second playthrough it would be excusable, because second playthroughs are usually for getting things that were missed, or NG+ exclusive content.
Hey guys I've heard from my neckbeard friends that this series is fucking amazing. I have completed:
Before you people start calling me a persona fag can you recommend me a game to start with in this series (I plan on playing all of them).
Extra: should I buy a 3DS since software emulation of DS on my gaming pc is fucking horrendous.
You can get the first two Persona games off of PSN (2 is split into two games, only one of which has an English PSP port, meaning you can buy the port of Innocent Sin but will have to make do with the PS version of Eternal Punishment).
Probably get a 3DS for Persona Q if you really liked 3 and 4. Overclocked was also really good, I wasn't too big of a fan of Soul Hackers. SMT4 is divisive around here, but what the hell isn't divisive with SMT fans. Most people would say Nocturne next, which is probably a good place to go. Plus all of the PS2 SMT games are now up on PSN and all of them are at least somewhat good.
The 3DS is a sweet console in and of itself. Speaking of SMT specifically, it has SMTIV, Devil Survivor Overclocked and Soul Hackers, and futurely Devil Survivor 2 Break Record and Persona Q.
SMTIV is possibly a good place for you to start the rest of the SMT series since it was made with beginners in mind, but I don't really like it as much as others in the main series. Devil Survivor is also a good place to start the better series and generally better written although the gameplay ticks me off. Leave Soul Hackers until you're well into the series.
Nocturne, Strange Journey or Digital Devil Saga then you can begin shitposting about how the first game you played is the pinnacle of the series
Devil Survivor or SMT IV if you want to ease in with less rigiorous dungeons but a good showcase of the combat
>not the Persona Q Special Edition 3DS
Look how pretty this shit is, man.
It's the jam thats why
why does everyone hate it so much
Persona 1 is... oversaturated. The writing is fun but the gameplay is full of badly executed concepts. The ludicrous amount of status ailments alone is a turnoff. It feels like the devs decided to run with literally any idea that came to them.
What logic is there to recruiting demons? I feel like I just get lucky every time I manage to get one on my side. What am I going off of when I answer questions, the alignment of the demon?
>Occult (some buffs)
>Prayer (typical megaten buffs/debuffs)
>Bless (healing spells)
>Miracle (revive spells and a few other things)
>>Special magic (Estoma, Traesto, etc.)
>I want to kill you
Makes you wonder what the meetings were like where they were drafting these things up. Did they think a billion types of damage would combat underspecialization in the Personas?
>The only thing upcoming soon is P4 Arena Ultimax
>And it's in 2 months
It's a lot like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. The negotiation is there but it's so horrible you'll be pulling your hair our if you try to do it all. It's a really straight forward game with not so good writing. If you're a old school DQ or FF fan I would say it's worth a play through... but if you're not a fan of those or an SMT completist I would say skip it.
It's my favorite series of games and if they were willing to put the work into making them then I should at least experience them in some way. They aren't all super fun but they're all Megami Tensei games... maybe I'm crazy.
What download is this version of Change Your Way located in?
Barely on the moonrunes. I'm working my way through the Digital Devil novels at a snails pace. Most of them I play with blind luck and guides. I only work 2 days a week so I have lots of free time. Devil Summoner (Sega Saturn / PSP) is fucking awesome imo. I hope that I can be on the translation team for it when I become more well learned. If you can stomach the japanese, I would recommend playing through it.
consider yourself blessed, brother.
Because he has the staff.
Tell you're friend to git gud at life and stop being a depressed faggot. He does not deserve funnies, he can look at BL :^)
>get to the arena
>Ginza starts playing
After Persona 5, what do you want/predict for the series future? I'm hoping for a whole new megaten subseries on the PS3. Probably Persona 6 will made with the same engine as P5, but with different coloured menus.
SMTxFE and Break Record never.
I love everything from Nocturne and beyond, but stuff before them is a bit eh for me. Depends on how important Press Turn is for you as aside from lacking that 90's megaten are pretty awesome.
>What do you want/predict for the series future
Persona 3/4 and 5 arena
Persona 3/4 and 5 kart racing
Persona 3/4 and 5 fightan
oh and i guess devil survivor 3.
i think i screwed up on the nuzlocke and have no previous save to revert to
