>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Rimworld, Age of Decadence, VA-11 HALL-A, Subnautica, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Darkwood, Card City Nights 2, Braid, Monolith, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, West Of Loathing, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago and /jrpg/ is welcome.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

I can't remember the gear exactly but I was PDoctor/GRobber/Crusader/Leper.

Every healer I take eventually just heart attacks and I was having a lot of success with this setup. Only put Robber in since my Hound master died. It seemed like a semi decent team since Necromancer looks like he needs to be killed by dots rather than brute force. I even camped in the room before his but still got rekt
>>
>>189143048
Dude, the only thing you need to do against him is just hitting stuff. Like, that's it, punch his skeleton buddies and he's fucked. How do you deal with the Brigand Pounder if you can't even beat the Necromancer?

>>189143048
>Necromancer looks like he needs to be killed by dots rather than brute force
Nah, the only thing that makes stuff need to die by dots instead of regular hits is protection. Necromancer ain't got none of that. The only real trick is being able to deal with the shit he summons while still getting him down, and that's just 'are you punching enough'. It sounds like you're taking an awful lot of stress damage, though. Are you targeting stressers in fights? It's easier to heal health than stress most of the time.
>>
>>189143048
>killed by dots rather than brute force
Are you retarded?
You had 2 characters that attack 1-2 position and necro summon help and moving to 3-4, i bet you haven't used GR to stun necro and let crusader to use holy lance.
You couldn't kill him because only GR was able to deal damage to him, dots are not for this fight.
Easiest way to beat necro is to burst him or even bring stunner.

Not having a healer against bosses unless you know exactly what you're doing is asking for trouble, healers are not weaker to stress than anyone else. Get used to using Arabman and the Vestal.

Never tried arabman, he looked like a weak mix of healing/damage. Any recommendations for a good team comp? Also is jester actually useful with his buffs?
>>
>>189143932
Does it look as bad in the game as the screenshots? Because the screenshots look like photoshop threw up on them.
>>
>>189144884
Jester used to be able to delete one enemy in most encounters, with a frontline Finale start. He was nerfed and most of his buffs are pretty eh, his main use is now a stress healer. Not bad, but not quite the nuke he used to be. Haven't used him (nor play DD) since I last cleared the Courtyard when it was first released, so I don't know what team comp would fit him now. I used to pair him with a Highwayman because a Finale to Point-blank Shot wrecks bitches real hard.

Arabman can cause your enemy to have like a 120% damage debuff stack, this absolutely demolishes the Swine God boss and some others. He also deals nice damage to Eldritch enemies. His heal is wonky as hell, so don't rely on it to save you when shit's going south but it's still a nice thing to have.
>>
>>189144884
In terms of healing throughput he's actually basically the best in the game. Wyrd Reconstruction is strong as hell. The range and chance to bleed means he's a little less reliable than a healer vestal, though. His damage is mediocre aside from eldritch artillery which is solid against backlines. Really, most of his value is in the heal, his debuffs, and his pull.
>>
>Yeah, it (Sprint) should be modified in some way so that it doesn't have a cooldown out of combat. I understand why it does in combat--it offers too much mobility for just one feat--but out of combat it just makes exploring sooo tedious.

That... doesn't even sound like such a terrible suggestion. Fast, not speedhacked speed already has a downside, you are more likely to step on traps before you could detect them. If tabis can give constant speed boost, out of combat Sprint doesn't sound all that unreasonable. Maybe it could force activate for you when you enter combat so you start with the cooldown ticking if you were using it already.

Although it would make dodging patrols and cameras way too easy for what is just a 6 AGI feat. Improved Sprint for 10 AGI? Veteran Sprint specialization might come a bit too late in the game.
>>
>>189138840
Cheru on Steam confirmed the game is coming out next year as Naramura-san's illness pushed the release window. I've been trying to keep my hype down and enjoy other games, but Naramura-san definitely loves to tease me.
>>
>>189145936
Bad idea from a game design perspective. If it has no cooldown, it should just be a passive ability - or better yet, a toggle. But in either case, "Sprint" is not the correct moniker for it.

And it's probably impossible from game mechanics perspective. As far as I can tell there is no distinction between effects in RT and TB modes. Everything is real-time on a base level, turn-based mode simply clumps the real times into discrete units of 5 seconds aka turns.
>>
>>189147487
You can constantly sprint in controlled zones only for example.
>>
>>189147487
Your first argument is pointless pedantry and your second argument is plain wrong.
>>
>>189147487
>As far as I can tell there is no distinction between effects in RT and TB modes

Son of a bitch is murdering my flock again.
Also, not sure how fences work. Build three of them, it's only some kind of fondation.

And, damn, I never understood how much I hated the sound effect for when you eat something. It sounds like the character is biting an apple. Doesn't make sense when 95% of the stuff I eat is cooked meat.
>>
>>189147769
Yeah, the first hit causes hostility which forces you into turn-based mode and the current action (firing that burst) simply gets stopped when the mode changes.
>>
>>189147741
It may be pedantic, but that doesn't change or devalue the point.

How is the second one plain wrong?
>>
>>189147487
Maybe not RT and TB, but the game does make a difference between combat and non-combat. If it can disable certain actions in combat I doubt slapping a cooldown on something for the same purpose would be technically impossible.

A name is just a name, that can change if needed. It could be called Marathon Runner for all I care, that's not really the point.

That being said I don't personally have a problem with speed. But as far as solutions go a feat, whether Sprint or something else, that boost RT speed is a reasonable suggestion. Sprint is just a good candidate for it since it already does that, and can't be used to sanic stealth.

I'm building the system for a tactical game in my head because I feel like it even though I'll never have the experience to make such a game. My current idea is that characters have attributes, proficiencies, skills, and perks.
Attributes are their physical and mental traits, can be improved by cybernetics (to degrees that make unaugmented characters irrelevant late game) and some perks. Perks are complex skills characters can learn, like center axis relock with handguns or silent takedowns in CQB. Skills are simple things your character can pick up every 5 points you increase a proficiency, stuff like double tapping a semi auto or slam firing a pump action.
In short, an excessively complicated system that does nothing better than any other system out there except for making autists happy.
>>
>>189171669
Dammit I forgot proficiencies. Those would be your skill in classes of weapons and actions. Shotguns, handguns, hand-to-hand, hacking, drones, etc. That post was also a lot less organized than I thought it would be. Each proficiency has its entire list of skills to pick from.

What's the name of that absurdly detailed turn based tactical military shooter where you can determine the trajectory of your shots in 3D space? I was too young to appreciate those sorts of games at the time and a lot of them are underappreciated to the point of not being on any "best tactical games of all time" lists.
>>
>>189180835
Supreme Commander? No, wait, that one isn't a shooter.
>>
>>189180835
Can't recall anything like that but I'd like to know. I know 7,62 has bullets simulated in flight rather than flat chance to hit, but that's not turn-based.
>>
>>189181057
It was dumb of me to say turn-based. I don't know whether it's turn based or real time with pause.
>>
>>189181215
7,62 is real time with pause. What do you mean by determine the trajectory specifically? Do you just mean they're simulated in flight, or that you can plot them them down with more detail than just clicking on an enemy?
>>
>>189181361
It's been so long since I saw it discussed that the details are fuzzy but one time on either /k/ or /v/ I saw discussion of an old tactical military game and one of the screenshots showed an actual linetrace interface drawn on top of targets for aiming the trajectory of a shot.

The crutch of DD aesthetics is delving into dungeons and having endless expositions instead of plot.
So pretty close to DaS.
>>

Are we talking about the same thing?
Asthetics means graphisms. So 2D stuff with lame animation, huge contrasts, and a gritty UI.

And stop suggesting Dark Souls to everyone, I'm getting sick of seeing every game compared to Dark Souls the moment it doesn't hold your hand. Once of these days, I'll see Spelunker being compared to Dark Souls.

I hate DaS for le hardcore meme as much as you, but in the context of similar aesthetics it's a pretty spot on recommendation. You even mentioned Salt and Sanctuary which is literally DaS but in 2D.
>>

No, no and no.
Salt and Sanctuary is a piece of shit that has nothing to do with Dark Souls. Stop spreading that meme that every hard game is Dark Souls. Despite supposely hating it as much as I do, you're still doing it.

Just because "lol you die a lot" doesn't mean it's Dark Souls in 2D.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/02/26/friends-foes-and-sellswords-salt-and-sanctuary-multiplayer-detailed/
>We’re working on a game called Salt and Sanctuary, an insanely ambitious platformer that aims to capture the """"Soulslike"""" genre, faithfully reimagine it as a mechanically solid 2D platformer, and explore and develop the interplay of wonderful mechanics and themes like difficulty and danger, stylistic action and complex combat, and diverse, branching, and versatile character building.

Also it being piece of shit, doesn't make it less of a DaS clone, just a bad one.
>>
>>189199750
>it being piece of shit, doesn't make it less of a DaS clone, just a bad one
My point is that it failed at being a DaS clone. It claims to be one to surf on DaS's popularity, but it lacks the fun part of Dark Souls and just comes off as irritating and frustrating, without any of the anti-frustration measures you can find in the Souls games.

It's also objective trash, too, so why would you even suggest it?
>>
>>189199931
You were the one who brought it up in the first place.
>>
>>189200048
I did? Well, I changed my mind, Salt and Sanctuary is a shit game. Don't play it. If you want something close to Darkest Dungeon, play Divinity 2, or Pillars of Eternity.
>>
>>189200224
But DD doesn't have anything in common with any of those, outside of turn-based party combat. In fact Divinity isn't serious enough and too colourful to be any close to DD.
Reread the discussion from >>189190608.
>>
>>189200769
Didn't you said yourself that aesthetic was more than gameplay? Dark Souls is just about one schizophrenic asshole walking around and killing innocent people while thinking he's saving them.
The guy who liked DD obviously wants a game with an entire team of losers to torture. Maybe Phantom Brave would be up his alley.

>Heavily RNG-centric, Scrolls are your main source of in-run progression, giving you a wide range of boons and curses
>If you get lucky and get something like "You can reject Scrolls" or "More good scrolls" early, you got yourself the makings of a good run
>You can select different classes by aligning yourself to different deities who provide benefits and sometimes drawbacks, the only example I've come across for a drawback being the bull god who puts a hard cap on your jump count at 1. https://youtu.be/abudgvoLo1o

I know games aren't supposed to be realistic, but it bothers me when I need to take down six giant trees just to build one house. Whether it's ARK, Rimworld, or even the accursed Minecraft, I always end up cutting down every tree for a meager amount of wood.

Okay, it's balanced by the fact that you grow a tree in a few hours, but still.
>>
>>189233219
Not the best, but it could work. Both MaA and Crusader can attack from multiple positions and not push around the Leper too much like a shuffle team would.
>>
>>189233262
You're right they aren't realistic, but... In real life you would need more wood, more tools, more refining processes, multiple types of wood and other boring stuff.

Consider that in Minecraft you can turn each cubic meter of logs into 4 cubic meters of planks.
>>
>>189235086
What about ARK, then? Every tree gives like 30 units of wood, and you need, what 40 or 60 to build a single wall?
>>
>>189228486
he learned from the best
>>
Speaking of survival games, how's No Man's Sky? I heard it was controversial, but I didn't saw any real complain, just "it's meh".
>>
>>189235665
I don't know what to say about those. Minecraft is easiest to judge because things have a solidly defined and consistent scale, a block is 1m^3. Games like Rimworld or DF (before 3D trees) are rather abstract when it comes to the size of tiles.

But ARK? One could argue that's because it simulates how much of the raw material is wasted in the process of turning it into something useful, but if you want my honest opinion: it's simply bad design. Slow grind is necessary to spread the content and serve as a purpose for multiplayer. You need a group to get anything done within a reasonable timeframe.
>>
>>189236858
It bothers my autism a bit, because given I stripped most of the area around me to build my house, if I wanted to build a real mansion, I would ruin the entire ARK's ecosystem.

I know video games aren't supposed to be realistic, but it bothers me when I'm forced to rely on magical respawn system to get anything done.

But then you've got a 10 minute atmospheric walking game.

IIRC Darkest Dungeon is too hard to mod too much.

Changing skills/trinkets (tweaking numbers, swapping already existing effects, etc): easy

Changing visuals: not really a thing outside lame recolors and real awkward visual reworks that have to conform to the original sprite's shape

Changing anything else: too much of a mess

But I'm years outdated so I'm probably full of shit

That said perhaps it's time someone makes a clone that's uglier but does the gameplay better.

Victor Cran for a more action-oriented version.

Maybe Inquisition or the Van Helsing games, but I found them pretty tough since you're very limited on potions.

simple controls. good music, and short games (5-10 mins). Your army handles like pikmin, where you wave a flag around and command them either as a whole or by unit. Base building is pretty simple, good variety of units. Single player campaign, multiplayer ranked and unranked, up to 4 players, splitscreen and online.

I'm a little more then half way through the single player campaign and its missions are getting pretty brutal too, both in terms of mechanics and story. For multiplayer you pick a combination of 6 units/structures right before the match starts, and those are the only buildings/units you can build in that match. Also maps are procedurally generated in both single and multiplayer

I'm not much of an rts player but this ones really impressed me

>>

Well, as bad as it was, I could have easily survived it since all my rice and corn fields were growing indoors (although I stopped using hydroponics because of constant solar flares). But if I were raided at the same time, my guys would have been fucked since my defenses are all outdoors.
>>
>>189267362
I really don't think Rimworld is for me. I want a survival/city-builder, but it really is programmed to play like a hardcore game.

And the sad part is that without the RNG to fuck you up randomly, you miss a lot of content. What's the point of being able to build defenses if you know you'll never get attacked?
>>
>>189267362
You overestimate the danger of toxic fallout, just micro your pawns into position when the raiders are closing in and you can defeat a raid before anyone gets dangerous levels of toxin buildup.

Besides, building roofs takes almost zero time... but why didn't your defensive positions already have roofs in the first place?
>>
>>189267721
You can play on easier difficulties with fewer shitty RNG events. I had a colony on basebuilder difficulty and I could handle anything the game threw at me. Raids were much smaller, too.

And now that I read your greentext, it seems that you can handle toxic fallout just fine. I don't see how a raid could've been worse than psychic ship. Raids are over in a comparatively short time and don't require you to wander far out from your base for an extended time.

>>189269197
In that case you're doing fine. But roofs are not for toxic fallout, it's to give your shooters/turrets better cover. Always use walls, roofs and sandbags. Lit up enemy positions. Give them no cover. Read the hit chance tooltips, learn what works.

First of all, that's none of my concern.

Second of all, if you don't want your kids to talk about gassing niggers or the great Jewish conspiracy, you should sit them down and explain in detail why it's wrong, not hide everything you deem inappropriate from them and hope they never find out. Sheltering is shitty parenting.
>>
>>189274381
Exposing your kids to harm is pretty shitty as well. My brother showed me Hostel (uncensored) when I was young, thinking it would make me stronger.
It traumatized me. Not to the point when I cry in the bathroom, but I was shaken for weeks and I try to never remember it.

Moderation is the key of everything. Protecting your kids is not the solution, but neither is exposing them to everything.
