This is an AR comparison for a %phys flat arc burial blade hybrid.

Given how damage calculation works, it looks like it might actually be worth it to go flat if you're stopping at 25 skl. The biggest downsides would be enemies that have high phys or arcane resist (there aren't many) and lower visceral damage.

the question now is, should I really go through with making a 25 skl vit gouge or a level 40 or anything else retarded with this kind of setup?

You need a minimum of 1 stam point to do a roll/dodge but yeah they do consume 10 stamina normally iirc

Crazy lore theory time:

Byrgenwerth is so small because parts of it got sucked into the Nightmare, nameley, the Lecture Hall and what became the Nightmare of Mensis. These Byrgenwerth buildings once occupied a large area of the Forbidden Woods. The Nightmare touched the forest at some point, sucking up Byrgenwerth, and leaving a Nightmarish taint in its wake in the form of tombstones and snakes, the latter of which infested local populations who moved in and a giant specimen of which raised the Madaras Twins, who uniquely were able to summon that giant serpent from the Nightmare with a tonal device, in this case, a whistle, rather than a bell, which everything else uses. The forest reclaimed the now empty land and became forbidden because of the Nightmare taint there. The Forbidden Woods, Frontier and Mensis are all linked via tombstones, poison and the Lecture Hall bridging them all together.

Didn't enjoy this game too much first time I played. Found it tough to adapt to. Especially since the framerate was so poor, loading times so long, and I loved to use the grass cress shield and play defensively in DS1.

But since I've been playing some DS2, DS3, and DS1 with two handed heavy weapons and no shield I've come back to it now that I have a PS4 Pro to play it on and it's been patched a ton and I'm having a blast.

Already after starting a new game and picking the Axe and the Blunderbuss, I've already bested the Cleric beast after an hour and a bit of playing and exploring. Levelled up quite a lot already too since I've been clearing large chunks of areas at a time without dying.
Really loving that 2 handed Axe action. Not even fired the gun once yet, though I'm going to take down Gasgoine so I'll probably need to, (already got the music box. I beat him first without it, but man that was crazy hard. I think maybe I hated the cane weapon I was using).

Think I'm going to play through all of this game this time.

So when I try to gem out my weapon and let's say it has three slots. The first to are physical attack %+ gems, and the third is an elemental. When I put that elemental in, it removes the numbers for physical bonuses. Should I just never put physical and elemental on the same weapon? This doesn't happen if I drop stuff like the teardrop gem in.

The game deserves it, it's some of From's finest work and my personal favourite ARPG of theirs. Have you got the DLC? It adds a ton of stuff. Also, although I wouldn't otherwise recommend it, there's Ludwig's Holy Blade, literally just a straight sword that becomes a greatsword, might be a good transitioning weapon to get comfortable with other aspects of the game. After that, I'd recommend trying out other, crazier weapons. You might like the Whirligig Saw aka pizza cutter from the DLC

There's a guide in the OP. Any weapon that doesn't have a secondary damage type (i.e Bloodtinge, Arcane, etc) cannot be converted with Fire/Bolt/Arcane gems, which will make Pure Physical weapons scale with Arcane only. A few split weapons can be used on Arc builds, only Tonitrus can be used effectively without a Str/Arc hybrid for Arc builds. Hunter Tools (spells) are supplementary, so they won't be your main source of damage most of the time but they can deal with several bosses by themselves.
