None of the main games uses Live2d, only the phone apps do. It's really obvious when you compare the animations, Live2d allows a wider range of motions, trying to make the sprites look 3d.
All the main games probably use some sort of homebrew animation tool by CH.The models themselves are pretty easy to reassemble in DragonBones, but replicating all the animations is a pain. So the best way to get moving sprites is to figure out how the animations are stored and write the converter.
And yes, you'll need something better than Ren'Py.
