Daily reminder synths do not walk around at night, they do not have more energy resistance than other people, and they do not draw their guns more or less than regular settlers.

These are urban legends spread from when the game was new.

People thought the resistances were an indicator, but it's actually from clothing and headwear, as seen here:

It's odd that the coastal cottage says 3 people.

I'm willing to bet that when a synth settler is given the script to become an attacker, it overrides a lot of it's other normal routines and sandboxing. In this case, they act weird and don't go to a new settlement when you tell them to, but the game still tries to get them to do it (they walk up to the bed at night but then goes into combat mode, coastal cottage registers 3 people in the workshop mode but they never actually left). Because they have their "settler" scripts replaced/superseded by a "attack this settlement tomorrow" script.

But this only lets us know who is a synth after they're given that command and their normal scripts are superseded.

Are there more videos like this, showing these sorts of things?

And no, Fallout i4 a lot better then past games, but the fact that project NEvada exists is only becuase New Vegas was just so bokren it needed that large of a fix.

Fallout 4 only needs smaller fixes, since it already incorporates most of the larger fixes into it, and few people are motivated enough to combine a whole bunch of smaller fixes into a PN style mod without all the larger fixes PN also offered to serve as the core of the mod.

I honestly never use those mods in a bethesda game.

When ever i play a new bethesda game i do the following:

1. Locate the nude mod
2. Look for an armor replacer for all vanilla armors to make them fit the nude mod body
3. See if i can tolerate the base appearance of character customization (i really hate bloating things with billions of hairstyles/eye colors/etc)
4. Unofficial patch
5. UI mods and enhancements to make the game play better
6. Maybe clothing/armor mods but only if i really cant be happy with the base game (i usually can)

Thats it, game is now all modded up and good to go :^)

I have hundreds of hours in tes3/4/5 fo3/nv/4 using only the above things.

I will mess with sex mods sometimes for fun.

They are often horribly shit balance, but you must stick to the base balance because that is the only static frame of refference. If people start modding the mechanics then they can do anything, there becomes no solid point of view to even discuss the game over. Magic in skyrim is shit, how to play a mage? Restrictions are what make choices meaningful, with out restrictions choices mean nothing, there is only freedom when you are free to pick a path, if you can fly you are not truly free anon, you can go anywhere you want, but everywhere is the same, and so you are nowhere.

By retaining the default balance mechanics you are grounded, you have a solid frame of reference with which to discuss the game, the game anonymous, its a set of mechanics, stats and rules, you could play it on paper if you wanted to take the time. Its really not a wonder why Fallout 4 doesn't have many big feature based mods, when it already does most of the big featured based mods from Fallout 3 and NV as official content, and rounded up many of the early Fallout 4 mods as official DLC to boot.

It's also not surprising that we aren't seeing any new "big ideas" because, if you look back all the way to Morrowind, modders have just been remaking the same fucking mods game after game, with little in the way of actually new ideas coming around each game.

I think the biggest thing to come out of Fallout 4 is Sim Settlements, which really isn't that new of an idea itself, its just one of the first times people have actually been able to get it to work.

The EA for KF2 was a fucking mess and Survivalist being in the game still pisses me off when people made some great writeups for new perks and asked hundreds of times for them to use KF1 custom perks.

Also turning themselves into the Numidium was objectively what they wanted and not tragic. In Fallout 4, the game physics are set to run based on the FPS, going over 75 FPS causes the in-game physics to start moving as speed equal to your FPS, so if you reach like 120 FPS, bottles and shit will start moving and dropping twice as fast then at 60 FPS.

There is a reason why its not an option to turn off in the game menus, because turning it off and getting high FPS breaks the game, since its literally designed to not function at such high FPS.

It goes bit into /pol/ territory, but essentially what they offer is a superculture and a unitary state structure not reliant on popular opinion both of which are a very good idea if you need to stabilise a turmultuous region, not so much if you just want to chill and live a happy life, but if Raiders keep slaughtering your family members that matters very little. Add on top of that their proven ability to disband tribal sub-culture and destroy raiders in their lands decreasing likelihood of future fragmentation and you have a quite decent recipe to solve problems of post apocalyptic wastelands. The whole treating women like lifestock sucks to live in, but provides level of population growth simply unobtainable by other means. Questionable tradeoff, but a tradeoff.

Their biggest problem isn't that they are bastrads its that they are stupid when it comes to science. That can be argued as a necessity to avoid fragmentation since they can't teach all their soilders to be technically literate. Well that and the whole canibalism being okay, but that to me is just a concession to tribal culture from whench it arose or simply a case of bad writing

That's literally just one guy, and Caesar yells at you for killing the one person in the Legion who knew what a radio was because that took years of resources. Nobody in the legion knows how a mine works or that they can be disarmed by pushing the blinking beeping light. You can teach them how to make gunpowder in a quest. In an other dialog you can teach the most medically literate person in the entire legion territory, a slave woman who recieved basic first aid training before her town was destroyed, how to make medicinal powder. The "dirty bombs" are just some toxic waste cannisters in a truck that was in the searchlight fire station.

No idea where you got the idea that the Legion can "build and maintain energy weapons". They can't even afford a few laser weapons from the VanGraffs, who betray the Legion because while the Legion's economy might be able to afford a hand full of laser pistols, the NCR economy can afford them by the explicitly literal train load.

Drug resistance isn't really worth it, just carry fixer with you when you need it or visit doctors. On the other hand Chemist is a must. Light armor related perks would probably go well, as well as the usual mix of finesse, better crits etc. Toughness (2) is probably necessary if you are gonna go Light road, outside of that might want to pick living anatomy to make it easier to decide when to use tommy gun and when switch to revolvers.

I will admit, I have massive autism when it comes to visual conistsancy, which makes me dislike most weapon/armor/item mods, because, while those mods may look very nice on their own, when placed in-game, they always end up standing out from the rest of the game, and look like shit because of it.

That is also a problem I have with texture replacers. While the new textures may look far better then the old ones, they end up standing out too much from the rest of the game and it bothers me. What is even worse is that, since no one person redoes everything, you end up with this weird patchwork scenario where there are like 10 different art styles in the game.

While on a item by item basis, the new textures are objectively superior, the end result is a far inferior overall product.

I also have a general hate for house mods because they are usually something retarded like a giant castle slapped into the side of a mountain randomly, or just some door in the middle of nowhere that leads to a mansion that is very obviously not there.

That, or its a prexisting place, that was very obviously not meant to be used as a player home, forced into the role of a player home, which just makes it not work real well.

I should clarify since I looked it up and was wrong. The Tesla Coils modification was what I was thinking of, which inflicts Energy damage on enemies who hit you with melee or unarmed attacks. Still, I don't imagine the Tesla X-02 is much stronger than that base modification, or to an extent that's actually harmful. If it is, you can always just remove the mod.

I would advice against that, it changes the game, fundamentally. I'd recommend just getting some essentials like YUP, HihgRes textures and a UI mod(s) that suits you, the guide in the OP is pretty comprehensive, but most of it is unnecessary. Tho I'd recommend 2 mods regardless of what decision you make: F4 loot for NV, and any of the dozen mod that replaces default quicksave and/or autosave.

A lot of people have different ideas on what a "first playthrough" mod list should consist of. Honestly, I simply do not listen to those "play vanilla your first time through", mostly because the whole "so you will know what to change" is rendered moot the minute you see mods such as

Basically, if you want "true to vanilla", install the mods in yellow (JSawyer Ultimate is further below on the list). Finally gotten enough patience to go trough the DLCs for NV. Overall I liked it tho honest hearts need to be set on fire and thrown into the nearest canyon. OWB is a fun romp, tho a bit childish. DM is god tier, and made me actually give a fuck about a casino for once. LR was ok, tho I was disappointed because it felt too short and somewhat disjointed. Ulysses for all his talking isn't really interesting, just another obsessed maniac you have to deal with.

Was there ever any explanation given why HH is so shit? Because between railroading quests, annoying characters, and the only promising aspect being killed by angry scripts it felt like a total waste I never want to touch again.

Yes, this modlist is pretty much vanilla+ as I said. Yeah, I like JSawyer fine, just wanted to mention that it changes the game quite a lot, tho not an overhaul like nevada, it is a different experience in many ways, and certainly more challenging one.

As to vanilla being easy - if you know what you are doing, sure, it's not hard. But if you play on hard/veryhard in your first play trough there will be plenty of dying before you get the game.

Yeah... I play on Normal. Playing on anything else is either cheat mode or artificial difficulty mod.

I personally liked Vicious Wastes in that regard: it simply reduced the overall health player and NPCs had. JSawyer Ultimate allows you to double the damage dealt, but that pretty much fucks with the whole DR/DT system.

I just updated my Recommended Mods. ADAM made some edits to Trooper and Ranger armor records that were completely unnecessary, like adding DR or modifying the repair lists. To be honest I only added ADAM to the mod list to fix the Ranger Helmets, but now I've realized I could have made a much more lighter download of ADAM for this purpose... oh well.

Modder-made stuff has not timeline, it can be updated once in a month untill it reaches a point where it is better than "in-house". The for-profit guys on the other hand have to make a living, and you can't really do that by being inconsistent, or engaging in flights of fancy with your schedule.

Remember that most good mods come out in a form every bit as half baked as games, they just don't ever stop gradually getting better, the good ones that is. And for every such good mod there is a tonn of useless abandoned drivel out there.

This is why your mod has no endorsements. The stupid thing is none of those are actually needed (well obviously DM and HH are required as you do an override of a few weapons there). Also looking at it, why did you set all the weapons with the flag2 "NPCs use ammo"? I don't think that was necessary since you set the weapon to eat normal ammo and removed the magical companion ammo from the companion NPCs anyway. Literally never, and I alt+tab in and out of the game during loading screens constantly. Hell, I can run it in the background for hours, come back, and play it like I never stopped.

GRA modded weapons, as you'd expect, are much, stronger than their normal counterparts. The problem is that the weapons they are duplicated from were balanced around not having mods, i.e their power curve is better than those game allowed modding from the get go.

My only problem is that Chet sells it, and it's in full condition. 200 caps is not much even for a first-time player if he scavenges around town for a bit. But if a player doesn't care about having tons of OP arms from courier stash, he wouldn't probably care about the plasma pistol. Fallout NV is a mess in balancing terms probably because Bethesda pressured them into making it easier. My Mom beat Lonesome Road and had about a hundred steampaks left. There's honestly not a lot of actual armor mods, most are clothing or outfits. L0rdofWar's The Mercenary pack adds an armor set (plus other things), and Niero's CROSS has an armor-like system in the way of an exoskeleton with armor pieces that go on top. Besides that, I don't think there's any coming to mind, since most people look for outfit or clothing mods, which typically have the DR and stats padded in already.

I personally only use the Leather armor set because I have the concealed armor mod to make it hidden, since the outfit underneath is what I prefer to be shown.

Once I heard that the modders get a lump sum at the beginning and that further sales don't give them a cut, I'm more inclined to potentially do this.

I would like it all more if the modders continued to get a cut based on sales of the mod. This would not only incentivize them to make a mod that will sell a lot, and therefore be quality, but it's more fair in the case of a mod that explodes in popularity and makes Beth a ton of money. It would certainly incentivize me to buy a lot more if I knew my money was going to the author and not just Beth.

A mod that sells 0 copies and a mod that sells a billion copies makes the mod author the same amount of money, but Beth can make an unknown amount of money.

I can't download anything off of Nexus, as I keep getting this error


Any suggestions? Already tried a different browser and disabling various adds that might interfere with the site, but nothing seems to work.

Haven't tried to download through manager, but I'm using Mod Organizer so that might be a problem.

Is it possible that Far Harbor fucks with Commonwealth weather settings or something?

Ever since i came back from Far Harbor my game looks like Silent Hill all of a sudden.
It sounds like something that shouldn't be possible but after i learned hat Automatron destroys encounters i'm willing to believe everything.

I don't care about meme points, to be honest. Though I believe those should be a standard for any NV installation, I get where you are coming from, so I just disabled those unnecessary requirements.

IF I'm not mistaken (which could be the case), it isn't enough to have weapons to eat normal ammo. I think the whole "NPCs use ammo" is necessary for NPCs to use ammo: else they just keep shooting infinite rounds, even though their guns use the normal rounds. (I'm honestly quite puzzled about this, but since their guns are unplayable I figured I may as well activate that option, it couldn't hurt)

I believe you are actually right about the "NPCs use ammo" flag not being necessary. After all, companions do eat through regular ammo when give you it to them in the vanilla game before switching to their magical companion ammo when they run out of regular ammunition.

I love the writing and stories in NV, for example, however as an FPS-nut i cannot fucking stand the shooting in that game, no matter how many times i mod it, automatic weapons suck balls, big guns suck balls and explosives are too overpowered in order to be considered fun.

As an FPS is abysmal, as an RPG is fantastic. The fact that you have to mod it to hell in order to have fun is a pro for some and a con for others (Me included). But the difference between NV modding and FO4 modding is that NV at least has a decent foundation to mod. FO4 is just a turd with decent FPS mechanics. You can't mod good stories and RPG mechanics into a game

New Vegas's biggest problem in terms of RPG mechanics is that its in many ways a game like Pillars of eternity, that tries to harp on systems of the past, without really understanding what made them good back then.

The biggest problem is that it gives basically every single playthrough type possible some means to get through every speech check, so instead of the game playing differently based on your skills, all that really changes is which one of the like 10 different speech/skill checks you use in an eocuters.

This is especially true of major NPCs like companions, whose near every word is focused on trying to push whatever "point" the developers wanted to the point they don't feel like real people, they just feel like cock sleeves for the developer's limited ideas.

Not him and I actually like new vegas overall, but there is one thing that really bums me out about it's RPG aspect. Handling of Cha and Barter/Speech.

Cha is flat out useless where it imo should have been used instead of a half dozen special speech perks, to resolve situations that rely on characher's charisma more than his dialectic skills, I.E. first impressions, scaring someone off with a war cry a la terrifying presence, flirting with people, etc, etc.

Barter is overall well handled buy it just feels like Speech 1.5 it doesn't result in different outcomes just different approaches to persuasion. Tho I think it's the least problematic of the 3 it's still kinda meh.

And finally Speech, Who the fuck thought that rolling up intimidate, persuade and bluff into one skill was a good idea in a game about talking heads.

I mean F3/F4 it makes sense - they are barely RPG, I don't mean this as an insult, they simply are for different tastes/moods. But FNV tries to be modern CRPG, and having 1.5 conversation skills seems like such a fucking crying shame to me.

Yeah, and they all yield different results based on your choices which is the point.

Didn't invest points into Speech because you like shooting things? Well now you have to kill either the Great Khans or the NCR, or lose 500 caps to avoid a confrontation.

Or worse, if you don't have enough speech you have to kill Cass for the Van Graffs, or you can't complete the Ultra-Luxe quest that lets you turn them into cannibals.

Some other checks will let you gain an advantage in several quests, like in Ant Misbehavin', if you pass the science check, you can kill all the ants in one swoop and safely turn the generators back on.

What do you exactly mean by "new ways to play the game"? You have plenty of weapons to offer different approaches to situations.

So do I, but that preset isn't very good at all.

And you don't need unique player in order to have cowtits while the rest do not. The in-game sliders only affect the individual actor while the Bodyslide sliders affect the body in general.

Uninstall Unique Player, make sure you have "Build Morphs" clicked when you batch build everything, and that will work.

I don't get this point at all, that's the whole point of Dead Money, that's why there are insane people who throw gas bombs and spears onto you, that's why there is red smoke everywhere, why Elijah is still there and why every character in that area hasn't left yet. That's like complaining that FO2 was too heavy on intolerance and nationalism

Well first off, it lacks the basic ties to make the character actually want to complete the main quest. B

Basically every RPG, including Fallouts 1, 2, 3, and 4, all put the lives of your friends/family in your hands, and have you sent on a quest to save your home, which in turn gives the player, and the character, the logical motivation to actually give a fuck about the events of the game. Even games like Baldur's Gate, and Neverwitner Nights have you looking for the people who killed your adoptive father, and trying to cure a plauge that runs rampant in your city, to kickstart the game's plot.

New Vegas lacks this, and idneed, one of the biggest complaints about New Vegas's plot, something even Josh Sawyer admitted to, was that the game gives you no reason to give a shit about anything going on, since you have no ties to the Mojave, or its people. You're just supposed to go with the game's plot for no reason beyond petty revenge.

The second biggest problem is that, the moment you reach Vegas, every faction just jumps you, and asks you to help them win the war, despite the fact you can easily make it to Vegas without doing anything of note, making them asking for your help rather illogical and baseless beyond as a means to advance the plot. House is the only one with any reason to ask for your help, but even then, with the money he has, he could do better.

Again, unlike basically every other RPG out there, including all the numbered Fallout games, which makes you work for the factions before they accept you, which in turn makes you interactions with them believable. Even Fallout 4 makes you do shit to earn their trust and prove their worth before the main factions actually let you in.

You're using a legit copy of Fo4, and you're up to date on F4SE, right?

Try uninstalling CBBE, Bodyslide, Unique Player and Looksmenu. Reinstall CBBE, then Bodyslide, then Looksmenu. Using Bodyslide, Batch Build and make sure Build Morphs is checked. Don't use the physics body or anything, use the regular CBBE one, and see if the basic instructions work.

Otherwise, I don't know. Maybe something is conflicting.

Instead of doing things like attacking enemy bases, training troops, making sure communications are secure, repairing important weapons, and other such things that are all quests in the game, and all of which actually serve to help one side or the other in the upcomming battle, most of the quests are illogical shit like Caesar asking you to turn the White Gloves into cannibals, despite him saying he hates tribal practices like that, and despite the fact he plans to enslave them all anyways, and destroy their tribal identity.

Most everything these factions ask you to do is just a run around to make sure you visit every pissant side faction at lest once, regardless of if they would, or should, have any real impact in the upcoming battle, while totally forgoing any actual battle preperations!

New Vegas is a narrative train wreck from start to finish.

I think his point is that FNV is utterly lacking in subtlety. And that's a very important for a believable story.

To give you an Idea of what I mean let's dissect the legion. It's clear that a lot of writers/management didn't like them. Hated them in fact.

Here are a few examples on how it undermines the work.

When you enter the Fort there is a hilarious sequence of absurdity. First you have a couple slave women, carrying this giant fuck off trucks on them. Now we know from lore that legion has male slaves and we know that they mostly use female ones for sex and/or as servants. Now why do the weightlifter slaves women exist? So that Obsidian can say "see these are the bad guys".

Next there are a couple of kids in legion uniforms. Just running around, not training not doing anything useful, just farting around in a middle of a military camp. Why? Same as above.

Then there is that girl and the teddy bear. Again, over the top silly and pointless.

And than you learn that Ceasar is ok with cannibalism despite all the objective, scientific reasons not to be ok with it. And any belivability the whole scene had left gets broken.

This also highlights a problem most RPGs have with companions in general, in that companions claim to have all these life problems, but then do nothing themselves to try to solve them, and require you to do everything for them, and then tell them how they should feel afterwards.

The thing is that there is a difference between making a point, and telling a point.

Good fiction makes a point, it has a story that some sort of moral lesson can be drawn from.

New Vegas, and Dead Money in particular, represents bad fiction, in that the stories don't make points, they tell points, with every character point blank just telling you the moral lesson trying to be made in such a way that it stops being a believable series of events, and instead becomes an obviously constructed narrative, whose sole purpose is to vomit onto the player some moral lesson.

Dead Money is one step away from just having the developers sit in a chair in a pre-recorded video in-game and just tell you what their moral philosophies are.

Nothing and no one in Dead Mone comes off as a believable or well rounded character because of how one dimensional the yare due to them doing nothing but basically repeating

The point is to not alienate the player for choosing A) Go after the guy or B) Don't go after the guy who tried to kill you and go do other unrelated things.

This is why FO1, 2, 3 and 4 fail when it comes to player motivation, because how would you justify going around fucking in the wasteland when there is an urgent issue that should be taken care of? NV caters to players who care about the story and those who don't. You can't say this in games like FO1-4 because the game tells you that this is really important despite the player having no attachment to the people and places they met in the first minute of the game.
