No. For Honor was broken in its core gameplay, and you could experience the entire game after an hour.

Absolver's core gameplay allows for pretty much any type of playstyle to flourish, and is way more in-depth than it seems at first. I probably had 300-400 hours in FH, and Absolver so much more fun. Fighting feels like you actually outmatched your opponent instead of them just fucking up

They do, at the cost of being slower. Someone who is really good at mashing them light punches will usually obliterate you because none of your kicks can come out fast enough, and his punch is fast enough to recover that he can also dodge your kick.

But if they aren't only based around fast punches, you're taking them to pound town.

You can join "schools" which are like clans but you can learn other players's (namely the mentor) moves and style

PvP is obviously great since the game is built around it

Like any online game, it does of course, help to have good connection, so expect a fight with a rich BR (with their signature dial-up) to be.. odd

Currently there is only 1v1, but 2v2 and 3v3 will be added soon ish, as well as crossplay with ps4 (if they, in layman's terms, can get it working)

They also plan to add more weapons, styles and moves

It uses a bit of STR and DEX (but mostly dex) along with the Mobility stat

Though i should say this, you can use any moves with any style, the only thing styles affect are what Ability uou have and your base stats will change a bit based on which ine you have equipped (Like, Kahlt Method for example will give you more max health, moreso than any other style)

What style are you? Parry might be best for that, letting you reset the momentum of the fight. fast attacks are usually very close in, your kicks should have the range advantage, so try to engage from further away, and play keep away if they try to get in on you.

You can get a kick deck working for Khalt too, but the style doesn't help much for making distance like windfall or making your own opening like parry.

The key thing is to work at making distance, and learning where your kicks will hit, but their punches won't. Try to incorporate a few low kicks and sweeps in that will dodge high attacks.

Two things mainly

There are 3 levels of encumberment related to Mobility which affects how fast your movespeed is and how far you dodge (does NOT affect the speed of your attacks or anything) Fast, Normal, and Slow, very comparable to Souls fast roll, normal roll and fat roll

Also many moves straight up get damage scaling off of your Mobility stat, depends on the move obviously

I rather like the lonely and run down sort of world, the style of the design really works for me. There are other players and of course npc's walking around for you to fight.

As for story, not so much, the single player experience is mostly just there for you to learn a bunch of moves to build your deck so you can fight other people.

as for PVP modes, I don't know I've been gathering moves and haven't gotten into combat trials much, but now that I think I've got all I need, I'm jumping in.

The PVE is totally pathetic and only serves as a grindy timewasting gating mechanism between new players and a full move deck. The game has your typical Souls-knockoff style story where there is no actual story.

It's just 1v1 for now but more incoming unless the developers/publishers decide they want to tank their public reputation (2v2 and 3v3 have been promised).

Spamming quick jabs is the meta, conform or get fucked. Parrying gives you 0.5sec of respite, and then the onslaught continues.

How the fuck am i supposed to build a deck? Am I supposed to make one combo and have it link into a few other mixups? Am I supposed to have a combo for each stance direction? Am I supposed to leave certain stance directions for counters to other moves, like sweeps or shield breakers? Look at the end of the placed attacks when in your deck builder, also how they are sorted.
Different attacks will leave you in a different stance, even walking around and getting hit will change your stance.
It works like this, if you attack 4 times in a single combo it will go through the row which is for the stance you're in when you started the combo, and it will leave you in the stance that the last attack in that combo ends in.

It will always leave you in the end stance of whatever attack you end with, the alternate attacks will let you switch stance mid combo if you use them.
It's up to you to do with these mechanics what you will.

All of that stuff just gets me excited tbqh, you can start out pretty basic (generally useful to start out making fast-fast with AoE (like spins or sweeps etc)-slow combos to start) but when you really start thinking about it, it's pretty mind-boggling how much you can switch your game up in any given instant once you git gud ideally.

It's not just the end move that switches you into other stances, remember. Each move ends in a certain quadrant, so you could have a 3-hit combo that loops back on itself if you just kept spamming X but if you just do the first hit and then wait a sec or dodge, the next X push could be in a completely different stance, or if you went hit hit dodge the hit could be in yet another stance, and then you have the alt moves that could put you in yet ANOTHER stance, or be set up in a way that could have the alt attack of every other stance except your top right loop you back up to your top right stance, which you could have as your starting position.

This is the sort of game with a lot of longevity that you can really sink your teeth into if you so choose. I love that about it. You can set things up in a pretty simple way when you start and do okay but you can also see how deep the rabbit hole goes and pull off some insane shit, the potential from the core game mechanics alone is intense.

No, you should fight most of what you see. Fighting is how you learn moves, and since actually progressing towards learning those moves you have to actually win the fight it's much easier versus AI than players. This gets even more true if you're underleveled and trying to win in the arena.

Fight shit and fill out your combat deck, at the very least.

You can soft target shit in 1vX situations by pointing your left thumbstick at them. Makes fights against multiple people handleable.

You'll still be locked on to whoever you're locked on to, but your attacks and dodges will work relative to the person you're soft locked on to.

When you look at moves in your deck editor you will notice letters next to them which indicate the stats that they scale best from. S scales the best, obviously, and E or - scales the worst.

Level up the stats that best accentuate the moves you prefer, but remember, there are no bad moves or bad styles, it all comes down to your subjective preference and what feels good to you.

Horribly. Since I'm playing Forsaken and I'm dependent on getting off parries, I'm pretty much fucked. I need to flick my thumb twice most of the time for the controller to register my input and the parry animation to play out.
I'm still fiddling with the settings though.

Disclaimer: this is all my personal autistic theory-crafting, but I think that:
Feinting works good against forsaken and (with less success) windfall players.
You can line up two heavies, feint the first and land the second.
Or you can use charged attacks that will tank one hit to trade (or feint that) and then string your falcon punch afterwards.
Spacing is king. My favorite heavy attack is actually the front kick.
It moves forward enough to out space a jab.
It's got a long windup which makes it parry bait, but it can always be canceled for another attack.

What are you looking for, rules of thumb? This is a fighting game, not starcraft. You need to be think about what your opponent wants you to do and then do something else, not going into every fight on auto-pilot.

balancing the stances in your combat deck is a matter of consistency vs. variance.

my current combat deck has my top right quadrant as the "poking" stance. every one of my strings return to that stance on the final attack. my top left quadrant is my "aggression" stance. my every stance has the alternative attack lead to my aggression stance.

that basically means i can determine whether i want to be poking or pushing as easily as pressing X or Y.

Forsaken is actually the weakest class in the game. It's a one trick pony that can be defeated by proper feinting, which any class can do and you should always be mixing into your strings unless your opponent is shit, in which case you can just dumpster them like the trash they are.

Yeah uhh I haven't really found any use for slow heavy attacks in this game. They only get me if I don't recognize the move. Got it an hour or so ago. This game is pretty bad on telling you what to do. I can see why people like it, but the combat is so chaotic and seems l'm just flailing all over the damn place. It's not that the basic mechanics aren't simple to grasp, but the flow of the combat is wonky as fuck. I'm never sure how to handle individual moves that opponents use. It just feels like the best strategy is usually blocking and then unleashing your own combo before having to block again.

Trying to figure out which one of your own moves you should use for specific situations is about as incomprehensible. Call me a newfag or tell me to git gud, but it doesn't feel right at all. The only thing I like is the dodging and movement. Figuring out how to work your way around different moves is actually pretty intuitive and fun.

DESU, it just makes me want to install Blade Symphony. May just end up refunding this and reinstalling that.

I just spend an entire day farming npc for the Warlord Chestpiece. I've now fought every single npc currently in this game.

I actually do. Class defensives are fucking terrible to use. Mouse movement makes them inaccurate as fuck, and you can't reset your mouse at almost any movespeed without triggering another fucking dodge, parry or absorb.
You can do it with practice, sure, but you're always going to have an enormous margin for error compared to controller users until they allow it to be bound.

here's my advice

start with 1 good combo that feels good, put that in front stance 1. then make another combo that feels similar, but looks different. make your Y moves in your front stance heavies, but not totally full retard heavies, but in the 70-100 damage range. have your Y move in those stances lead to your other front stance.

have both your back stances immediately lead back to your front stances. don't put more than 1 consecutive attack in each.

It's MOST LIKELY (so that your autistic ass don't get confused) that level is the only factor that you can only face people within 30 levels of yourself. I've faced someone as low as 32 as a 60, hence that assumption.

It's actually pretty alright against forsakens since most animations look the same, you can do feints and come with another attack that looks mostly the same but from the other direction. But against any "competent" Forsaken - pretty much any deck will be pointless. It'll all be about just getting past the parries.

Yes and no. Stagger's defensive mechanic is good for slipping away and getting a light tap in but it's not as good as outright dodging and getting a string in, which is still not as good as absorbing the hit and countering, which is STILL not as good as parrying. Dodging is definitely better than Stagger's defensive move, but I feel like Stagger is the better style overall.

Of course, if you can learn a shitton of moves and know what the dodges for each are, maybe Windfall isn't so bad.

I'm actually considering switching from Forsaken to Windfall. It seems like WF has a lot more potential, but I've yet to see anybody good using it so I can't tell. If you successfully dodge, does it give you an opening like Forsaken does? Kahlt doesn't have directions, but also gives you nothing for blocking, just some grey bar health which is useless anyway. Forsaken has two, and gives you a free super-light. I'd think WF maybe gives you regular light-medium

I think Windfall's dodge gives you a little bit of an opening. When I used it 'properly' while flailing around like a tool, I got in a really quick two hits -- but that was base deck, early game.

I'm kind of anxious to try Windfall again because of the clunky challenge. But if I have to wrestle too much with the execution I may stick to something less exhaustive.

It really should have. Honestly, absorb should have been something along the lines of you absorb damage and then you can eat a hit equal to that amount of damage during one of your attacks. Of course they would tweak it but khalts abilities to trade health for hyper armor would be sick.

Just fyi, Kahlt gives you a large stamina recovery boost if you successfully absorb an attack. The reason why people say Kahlts are made to be aggressive is because you can essentially be like the energizer bunny if you can land absorbs over and over, ideally you'd never run out of stamina.

Same applies to blocks, you could basically block forever as a Kahlt ideally.

They must want you to co-op if you do online play. Online with other people connecting? Run into ganks, minibosses have buddies. Same thing in offline mode? Much sparser and mostly just 1v1's.

There you fucking go. You can still play in online mode but just go to the altar in each area and switch from "encounters" to "invitations" to get people the fuck out of your world, pretty sure that works, though I've just been doing my PvE offline. Just throwing that out there for people mad about the ganking enemies.

No I just told you that you can counter fast hits with longer reaching attacks (often kicks), charged moves (hyper armor), or parrying. Maybe other ways but those are a few.

Turtling isn't really gonna help if that's what you mean by tank, the reason why kahlts are often tanky is because you're generally being super aggressive and then absorbing hits to regain stamina, so you need to be able to take more punishment.

That's the problem, they never stop spamming lights because you can't do anything to defend it. I can easily see which direction the attack is coming from because of the gold flashes but the parry animation won't even come out. If I catch them using something slower and counter they'll just effortlessly avoid it and continue their light strings. If their stamina gets too low they'll just shockwave and get it back instantly.

I personally just work on predicting them, people in this game are surprisingly predictable, especially considering just the sheer amount of variety that the decks allow for.

It may sound gay but try double or even triple absorbing sometimes, you'll generally land one and get your second wind to start beating ass again. The problem there is that absorb is too slow to recover if your opponent is using fast to medium speed attacks.
It's perfect if you're using it to go through a heavy kick or something (not an attack with break though, absorb is vulnerable to that)

Then theres the case of most stagger moves being slow fucking pieces of shit that have no tracking or hyper armor. WHAT IS THE POINT? Quick attacks are the noobstomper of this game, dummies don't understand how to use feints, class abilities and dodges to bait out enemy attacks, to which you can respond with slower attacks

My main deck has 2-3 fast attacks, the rest are medium, and the alternates are all heavy, and I'm winning a lot. Quick attacks are not infallible.

The primary thing is most people are forgetting to use block, which destroys the effectiveness of quick attacks.

mix up your deck to be a little more random, don't just have left right left right.

Also feint, and vary up your tempo in the fight. A lot of the timing for the parry relies on them understanding your combos, rather than just straight reading the attack. If you teach them your deck works one way and then start throwing other shit at them they have to relearn stuff.

I don't know about the dodges, but Parry's timing doesn't make is super ideal against the quick jabs which are currently the to do thing here at the outset. Dodge can work a bit better against those, since they're largely straight lines and high attacks mean a left, right or down will pretty easily get you out of trouble

Dodge doesn't do too great against wide arc attacks like kicks though, I've beaten a few windfallers by getting them thinking that my straight pressure was all I had, and then mixing in my second string and alternates which feature a lot of quick kicks that hit to the sides.

But a person who is on point with their defense can get around these negatives by simply being better at their ability.

Yeah, you need a set up with some arcs in it.

I have a jumping kick that I use to link into a less straight attack string that really helps against windfall. I tend to have two direct high damage alternates and two arc alternates that let me go from one string to the other, give that a try and you should start being able to punish those side sets.

Not really, it makes sense.
How do you deal with someone that is just stepping to the side of your punches? You toss an attack that will hit them even if they step aside. Kicks are the best way to do this since they tend to have a wider range as well. A few punches will track in their opposite direction, but those kinds of hooks tend to be slower and easier to either duck under or just back off on.

Windfall's weakness is that it is just a bit faster of an ability that everyone has, which means it's countered by basic attacks. While parries requires you changing your timing and feinting and absorb can get stuffed with multi hit attacks like mill or jackhammer punches. Windfall is largely countered by having wider arc attacks.

If your deck is going to be largely straight punches, you're going to have to deal with people dodging to your left and right, even if they're not windfall. You can make it work, but you're going to have to force your opponent to no longer be able to get around your attacks.

So after playing with WF for a bit, it just seems like utter garbage, almost as bad as Kahlt. Mainly for two reasons.

The first is that you don't have a backdash. At least i don't think you do, I couldn't figure out how to use it. But anyway your back is replaced with a duck. In most cases a double back will get you away from everything but the fastest moves, and is extremely useful.
The second reason is that it seems as though some moves cant even be avoided. I sat against one NPC enemy for about twenty minutes, who had only three moves. A medium kick, high kick, and haymaker. Both the medium kick and haymaker could not be dodged in any direction, no matter what my timing was like.

Any WF fags to tell me this is incorrect? Or is it really that bad

Also how exactly does parry work? Is it a 50/50 or is it like 25/25/25/25? I want to know because forsaken players parry me frequently and I don't know how to get around it. I know feinting but you have to feint so fucking early otherwise you can't do it. And the recovery on their parry seems so slow. By the time I feint, they are already sending another barrage of punches.
