Copying the story idea maybe, but that's not exclusive to WoW in the slightest, and was far better done in XIV. FFXIV since has remained fairly consistent, and I haven't seen many changes built to cut corners but make players spend even more time logging in daily not to fall behind.

Compared to Legion, pretty much any grind in XIV isn't that bad. Especially since a number of them are for more aesthetic purposes, and falling behind isn't fatal. Oh and not to mention the fact you don't need to reroll when they gut your class either, where you do in WoW. Blizzard flat out admitted they didn't want people playing a particular spec so they nerfed it by 30% or something ridiculous like that.

I see Yoshitaka Amano's creative influences here and there, but I hate how underappreciated his art goes. Fanart for this game is all done in your generic SoL anime/4 panel comic, and even in roleplay in XIV, characters act more like seasonal anime stereotypes than actual people.
I thought he was being overly arrogant when first saying this, but I think Miyazaki was right when he said Otaku were disgusting and a plague on culture.

Cataclysm-era WoW wasn't particularly heavy on story, and the heavy influence on the PC hasn't been a thing on WoW until Legion.

I'm talking more about gameplay, where 1.0 was based largely upon old FFXI functions that weren't thought out and were culled to cater to a completely new system (a WoW clone tab-target with longer GCDs). XIV is still a half-baked WoW clone, where stats and itemization don't really matter, elemental resistances still exist for some reason, and the gameplay's been the same since 2.0.

The player was vital in WoD too, but we weren't "the chosen one" until Legion really. The WoL schtick is much more chosen one-esque though. XIV is absolutely a WoW clone in its combat, but where it excels is that it addresses some of the issues WoW had - the jobs feel different, the professions aren't negligible and made irrelevant, and it has a better more concise story without major retcons. Plus the whole job system is VASTLY superior to anything in WoW.

Oh, and the synching, it's really nice. You can play with friends and people leveling up aren't fairly alone.

Jobs are kind of a weird in-between. It's great you can attach your jobs all to one character, don't get me wrong. I've felt attached to warrior my entire WoW career just because I have everything attached to that character. Having the option to change is great.

It being an absurd grind however with no real accessibility past "just grind" is not. Sure, artifacts are a grind on WoW, but they come with playing the game.

Syncing is great, but I do wish they'd just sync us and maintain our skillsets. Alter damage values, etc. Just give me my buttons so I don't need to change my rotations depending on what fucking dungeon I get.

Throughout the day everyday you'll see people ask people in the /ls to join for roulettes and maybe some primal pony/bird/dog farm. They seem happy to run old content unsynced too, with or without bonus, if you just ask and people aren't already occupied. Activity in general has already began to wane down cause of school starting up again for everyone though

There's a few and some alts that are just there to RP and not play the game. You might see some playful poking at ERP (Usually unfunny but can't avoid it) but people do it on the down-low.

As someone who made an alt there a week ago, yes to your first two questions, Mateus also has a pretty decent RP scene (perhaps not as developed as balmung but I hear about balmung RP drama a lot so that might not be such a bad thing) and I don't think people really care if you (e)RP.

As a counterpoint to "DONT INTERACT WITH XIVG EVER" anon, if primal feels dead to you then what do you have to lose? If your current server isn't cutting it and you wish to keep enjoying the game and playing with others, you may as well go off your best lead for now.

It does, but it has fewer people in general. Aether's party finder is a great tool and makes sure you have as many opportunities as possible for endgame. Easier to find a static, easier to farm things, easier to learn fights, etc.

Savage raid weapons are always gonna be faster to obtain and at a higher ilevel (Except for last phase of the relic of course, where its even), but also take in account that some people play more than 1 job in a game that lets you play many jobs on one character, and there's a weekly wall on obtaining the most current gear

What has followed so far has been one of the most wonderful months ever playing this game.
We seem to balance each other so well. They got me into crafting and gathering. Something I put off for years. And from what they tell me, I pull them from wasting away doing nothing but crafts.
We run dungeons together, do PvP, gather and farm mobs. Some nights we do nothing but explore the in game world, take in the digital scenery and exchange stories. They even got me on my bicycle again.
So far, I believe this person is being genunine with me.
And I been here before, but not to the point where I'm the only developing feelings and shit.
It worries me that I'm liking them more than I should a person in a video game.

What kind of things should one be looking at anyways?
I don't want either one of us to get hurt. Although if it goes sour, someone likely will.

If you guys enjoy doing stuff together then that's great and you should embrace it. It's perfectly natural to want to continue doing things and spend time with people you like.

Just don't think of it in terms of "Oh I like this person I better make a relationship out of it". Yes you may develop overly amorous feelings for them, that's part of being a young adult.
