anyone getting sonic mania on steam in a day or so?

I'm not claiming to be the ultimate authority on the game - I've watched tons of replays, I know most of the stage strategies, and I've commentated it for STG Weekly and Stunfest, but I'll be the first to admit there is always more to know, and that my execution is nowhere near good enough to match the high level. I'm also one of the core staff members of STG Weekly, a moderator at the largest English-speaking community of shmup fans, and a frequent livestreamer of STG content. I've traveled to conventions and events around the state and the globe to talk about, play, and commentate shooting games. I've been to HEY in Japan and watched superplayers in person. I've met ZUN. I've helped bugtest and playtest games for Cave and Degica.

What are some chaining systems?
We got medal chaining like in Garegga or Psikyo, we got Treasure color chaining, we got DDP chaining.

What else is there? There must be mor games where you can chain through whole stages in some way.

Item chaining in Giga Wing/Mars Matrix. Though I guess that falls under medal chaining despite the differences.

Saviors (yes, indieshit/ poojin, I know) has a combo system that's similar to DDP's, which was cool.

RefleX and ALLTYNEX Second have interesting combo/chaining score systems, but they're never stage-long since both games have significant 'breather' segments.

Pawarumi might not be a very good game, but I think they had the right idea.
Shooting games are not just action games about blowing stuff up, quick reflexes and collecting items, they are also puzzle games.

I think there should be way more shmups which add puzzle elements. Its the only way to still innovate in this genre, I think.

Like for example, collecting medals fits since you probably would earn medals as a pilot, but shooting 3 enemies in a row doesn't make much sense.
