Gelt is probably a good pick since you can get Karl Franz really easily. He and his magic was buffed recently too, though I haven't tried him myself. On the other hand Karl starts with Reiksguard, which is quite good. So either Gelt or Karl. Karl is tougher in melee though.

Thre's an interesting WArhammer book that I like quite a bit called Pawns of Chaos.

The main character is a young cultist of Tzeentch, who over the course of the novel, slowly comes to understand the nature of his God, above and beyond his peers. Eventually, Tzeentch himself speaks to the boy, congratulating him on what he's accomplished so far, and suggesting that he take on the role of the new High Priest.

The boy refuses, and states that he is going to leave the Cult, infiltrate the Imperium and do everything in his power to destroy Chaos and Tzeentch, no matter how impossible a task this may be.

He does this not because he despises his God, but because he's realized the fundamental truth: Tzeentch loves his opponents far more than his servants. His servants are, by definition, pawns and while he may briefly value one more than another, they are ultimately disposable game pieces. But enemies are opponents and can be loved and respected as such.

Tzeentch laughs wildly for a while, and then welcomes a new player to the board.

Basically, Tzeentch likes other factions apart from his own being strong, because he's the ultimate competitor. The stronger the foe, the more enjoyable the game of their destruction.

Rolled ostros, so here we go

Start out big like everyone except the expedition, but thankfully my start isn't as fucked as the poor Vandals. I expect the most immediate threat to be the Burgundians, but thankfully the border with them is mountainous and seems defensible.

Afaik there aren't any scripted events beyond the global ones (orange) for the non-romans, so I should have a good idea as far as what to expect there. I'm not sure if the plague actually operates off of sanitation, so that is a worry, but other than that the other big problem is obviously the Lombards coming in from the north and fucking my shit up

I have 2 provinces with iron, but I think I'm going to turn Umbria into my military recruitment province, due to its proximity to the burgundians/langobards.

Be wary of the south, beastmen have a location in estalia where they will spawn whenever a brayherd emerges in the world and they tend to beeline to your tree since you are their nemesis

Though some sense conflict between them in the future, Morathi has promised her strongest pupils will join the legions of the Druchii.

In Har Ganeth the cavorting Brides of Khaine spill the blood of offerings to their God, whilst many a would be sacrifice is lost to the blades of the Executioners.
The Beastmasters of Clar Karond rouse their monstrous captives with many a laggard elf suffering in the process. All over Naggaroth the corsair fleets have been sent ahead to pillage and despoil the Black Council's choice of targets, a content glint could be seen in the Witch King's eyes, if anyone had the heart to look at them.

The time is now, the treasonous Asur will soon bow to the true Phoenix King whether they wish it or not. Domination by a best elf soon!

Weirdest campaign stories?

Currently playing a Von Carstein game where I cucked Mannlet out of Castle Drakenhof, stuck him in fort Oberstyre, and eventually confederated him. Then I've been conquering the empire and southern realms piecemeal. But what's crazy is I've managed to become military allies with the Fay Enchantress. Been steamrolling so far, I think I'll take on Chaos to make this a bit more interesting.

(New campaign goal is to get the Fay Enchantress as a vassal. Corrupt that which is purest.)

Its been a few turn of just sitting on my ass building stuff and trying to fix public order. I married off my daughter to a guy I made governor/master of offices w/ the influential trait, which should work out well in the long run. The Franks are the only faction to have declared war on me, and the Burgundians have apparently sent all their armies to fight in the war against them, so my prediction of them coming for me was wrong.

Put it all together and you have an (more-or-less) historically accurate wargame that focuses the player on his job as an army or corps commander using a simple but elegant system that not only works seamlessly, but actually looks close to the real thing. Forget refusing the left regiment in your brigade. That’s not your job. Plan, support, launch, react and watch the fun as your troops do theirs. For $29.99 US, it’s shekels well spent.

And CA-SEGA take note! This is the way a wargame is supposed to work.

In case you don't know, hitthing J makes a unit face backwards immediately, well apparently it works differently for cavalry after a charge, hitting J makes the cav face backwards, go back 30 feet and then face forwards again, all the while taking a lot less damage than manually pulling out would.

Basically the game has a built in cycle charge command no one told you about.
