Practice your tracking with the beam on single targets

If they are bunched up or far away, pelt with alt-fire

You can alt-fire at less than 25 ammo and still do full damage

Bubble against incoming damage not against damage you think might happen

Bubble essentially makes you or your target invincible against huge one-shots, like D.Va bombs or Meatier strikes

You can use alt-fire to give you a tiny boost up to places just outside jump height

Track abilities like deflect and defense matrix to avoid it being wasted

You can alt-fire and ult-immeidately afterwards, this can be helpful for squeezing out a little more damage and since the ult follows the alt-fire arc, if you need to judge exactly where to place your ult

Don't think of the bubble as a shield, think of it as a second of invincibility you can give to other people. Don't be eager to just blow your bubbles immediately, wait for opportunities to use them. Bubble yourself only during pushes when you're confident enough to go all out, or when your healer can be trusted to keep you healed so you can use it offensively, or when your healer is preoccupied so you have to save yourself.

Poke with her gun's M2 and when you hit 40+ charge you can be like a real DPS and feel more confident cutting into people. At this point M2 becomes a tool to rapidly burst and finish people off. Practice aiming M2, this is where half her skill ceiling is.

Your ult is the slowest charging ult in the entire game, useless on its own 99% of the time, and can turn the tide of the game. Make sure you always combo it with someone else's ult and don't waste it.

Meh, Overwatch is just TF2 but better in my opinion. And this comes from someone who has over 500 hours in TF2 and only 100+ hours in Overwatch.

Overwatch just has so many different characters with different playstyles that it never feels repetitive. For instance, I mostly played D.Va and Lucio for awhile because they were the characters I was best with. I kind of got bored with their playstyles so I started playing McCree a lot, and McCree feels like playing CSS but just with the Deagle and a stun move which made him a lot of fun to play. Plus, there's a competitive mode which I always like in online games.

All of this makes up for the inferior map design and character balance imo.

Actual advice for people who want to climb:

Play something else. Matchmaking is weird and tries placing you where it decides you are playing that character. If you were a god-tier dps, you wouldn't be stuck in lower elo. Tanks get fucked the most imo, since they're more reliant on their team for "good stats." I was stuck in gold only playing D.Va and Soldier until I started playing Zen, Zarya, and Tracer and got to diamond in one season.

Yeah, one or two people on your team might suck, and there's a level of customer service shit you have to know to get them to switch, or point out flaws without tilting.
Also, it's fine to retreat if your team is getting picked off. Even simple shit like "let's all go [this direction]" can make a huge difference. It's also helpful to ask someone for help with an obstacle, like "Hey Winston, can you clear the Sym turrets for us?" Seriously, shitty players just don't realize what their team keeps dying to because they get tunnel vision.

If I'm getting 4 golds as a tank, that's actually a huge issue to me. It's easy to deal a bit of damage to every enemy and get gold elims from it, but getting gold damage means something is wrong. Everyone else is dying too quickly to even make any impact, usually a Pharah or someone flanking and killing off people while you're just focused on the frontline.

I never solo queue below Platinum. You'll never get a positive win-loss ratio no matter how good you are because people in those ranks are retarded.

So here's what I do every season if I end up in gold:
Keep queuing up for games until you find at least a 3 stack
ask them if they don't mind you grouping up with them
if they say yes, play a shit ton of games with them in succession until you reach plat

I went from 2398 SR to 2556 in a day doing this. I never talked to them again and solo queue'd to SR 3161.

you're only as bad as your teammates in this game, and your teammates will be consistently bad if you're solo queuing in lower ranks. Once you hit platinum solo queuing becomes much easier and if you're good and communicate well you'll hit diamond or higher.
