Ive been working on the roof, I got myself a big problem on which the floor has 3 parts with varying height so I had to reduce space and make several rooms that justify the varying height. It was hard and I had to reshape it several times but it was also fun to do so.

But I never said I wanted this, I want a stable, well optimized platform for modding so that I can take my game and turn it into an RPG if I feel like it, or factorio if I feel like it, or a mechanical programming simulator if I feel like it.

I was running a server and playing on it myself. Last night the server failed to start a few times. I toss the files over to try SP without the server and the world starts fine, now no matter what I can't get the server to start with that world. It works fine single player, just not as a server even if I redownload all the required files.

What would randomly cause this? I wasn't even doing anything crazy and haven't had any crashes.

I'm looking for a mod that adds mostly vanilla random structures to the world. I used to enjoy the Primordial Desert's obsidian temples, dungeon world gen (It generated five or six dungeons compatible with adventure mode in a 2500x2500 space on the overworld and required searching for the exit portal in each one leading to a bedrock tunnel in the nether that led to the start of the next.), and better dungeons back in 2012, but I haven't really delved further into things recently.

I've tried Roguelike Minecraft, but I feel like all of its dungeons are mostly the same (Staircase leading down to y50, y40, y20, enemy spawners with enchanted gear, tunnels without any real traps, mazes, or surprises) but I do like that it's entirely server side generation requiring no mods for multiplayer, and I don't like that Runic Dungeons generate in another dimension and seem pretty small. Twilight Forest has some interesting dungeons, but TF doesn't integrate well with Thaumcraft (Nodes don't generate in the forest, for example, requiring a lot of back and forth until I can make nodes in jars).

I'm not looking just for dungeons or anything, mainly just interesting pre-generated structures in the world, such as custom villages, castles, etc. Doesn't have to be a threat, just something to spice up exploring.

Primordial Desert used to be that way, it was a command line tool that generated a map XxZ big, put up a bedrock wall around it, and generated all the structures and terrain ahead of time. If you have trouble with any of the bosses become a vamp or a werewolf. It's pretty much easy mode. Finishing DLC castle midway through the main quest is a good idea, as it's shorter and gives you really useful items for the castle upper floors.

Yes, as you can see from the picture, I destroyed that puny little ice dragon with my dragon's fire breath. It is very devastating against trees/wood as well, so regular villages will stand no chance.

Griefer - replaces the creeper. Loud, slow, explodes and wrecks your structures. [gives saltpeter when killed]
Stalker - silent, fast, strong. Cannot explode. [No idea on use]

>Plane of Earth
Sandworm - burrows in stone and changes it into sand, risking to suffocate you. They're weak, but they spawn in groups. Useful for sand production.
Gelatinous cube - slime-like; it swallows you whole and you begin to suffocate. Does not split on death. Drops are necessary for certain storage-based items.

>Plane of Water
Anemone - sessile tentacle mobs that poison you. Some can remove your gear (including scuba), so there's a drowning risk. Gives you something for underwater breathing equipment.
Krakken - it's a fucking giant squid that hates wood, dirt, glass, ice and boats. And you. Good food source though.

>Plane of Fire
Slag - slow slug that puts you on fire. The drops are some metal ores for automated "mining".
Fire womb - it spits lava, so it's an environmental hazard. Useful if you put them in a tank though.

>Plane of Air
Moygos - a flying enemy with small attack but large knockback, risking to drop you into the void. Gives you flight.
Maxwells - weak HP, fast, strong lighting attack. they zap you and teleport. Annoying enemy, ideally you want to kill them in one hit. It gives you something for improved electricity.

In my experience the male/female split doesn't cause too many problems- animals mostly spawn in family groups so if you find a cow there'll probably be a bull nearby. It does present some interesting problems- bulls will get violent if they or their herd are attacked so you'd need to separate them when it comes time for slaughter.

At the moment you only get the best products from properly caring for your livestock, which I think is more interesting and engaging than vanilla but I can imagine being tedious to others. I'd like the idea of being able to breed some giant prize-winning hog with a simple genetics system.

While watching Achievement Hunter videos, I had the idea of a neat custom modpack serb, focused around ELECTROBLOB'S WIZARDRY™

It's a 7 tower floating island, each with a focus on one school of magic, and the players chose a tower and collect the books with quests/cash from the various wizards, while questing on ground level for the non magical peasants and monster girls.

Full PvP against other towers and Regular PvE.

Not really serious, but I thought about two more factions to add for fun. The Weeb Faction and the GUNZ faction, slashblade and tech guns respectively.

This feels dirty, but finally I've found an use for poisonous potatoes: prevent vanilla equipment spawning mechanics (if you do it with air they still spawn with gold helmets and crap like that). Now it's just a matter of making them transparent.

I think the second part of your statement is the key. It is important to consider the players' perspective on design decisions- I've definitely played games where the creators obviously were NOT players based on their design and balance decisions as the game developed, but you have a point that amateur players will, as it happens, not have the design sense of a professional.

I disagree with FC that players will always want things easier- the very existence of an audience for BTW contradicts the statement- but sorting out what are fun and interesting game restrictions and what's unfun tedium (or just fucking stupid) is not always obvious at first when it comes to suggestions from the player base.

I think a developer has to walk a fine line between responding to the wishes of the players and at the same time not letting them lead him on insane, poorly-thought-out ideas.

Fish come and go as they please, most must be caught with fishing nets while in boats.

Fishes can be cross-bred for traits and what not. You can make sushi with seaweed, raw fish chunks (made with raw fish + an axe, fish with bigger bodies give more chunks), and rice.

After thinking on the problem, I got a solution.

Equip all "unequipped" slots of zombies with almost broken chain helmets that never drop on death, tweaked for zero defence. Mechanics-wise it works, the zeds burn ~0.5s after they "should", but the "clunk!" noise when the helm breaks gives it away.

I don't mind sacrificing (say) chain helmets, but I don't want to sacrifice the noise. Fuck.

Nah, not a normal staff, the staff/scepter combo thing. Though I guess a normal greatwood staff would have 125 vis max, which would be enough for a node in a jar.

Come to think of it, a scepter would too, at 75 vis. If only I had a quicker way to find a bunch of shards.

So first of all, I'm going to assume you don't want any big content mods that dramatically change the 'goal' of the game. With that in mind, here's some stuff that doesn't stray too far from the Vanilla (no mods) game and, IMO, enhances it.

If you haven't used shaders before, I recommend you give them a try. They're supported by OptiFine now and don't need a standalone mod. Careful not to try downloading them off malware websites. Along with this, you could try some texture packs if you haven't in a while. I like Faithful 32x -- it's basically a slightly more detailed version of the Vanilla textures.

If you're playing on 1.9 or later there's Quark. Quark tweaks a lot of vanilla mechanics, and IIRC, most of them can be individually disabled in the config file. Things it adds are additional stone types to worldgen, more decorative blocks, variants of many vanilla blocks like chests and bookshelves for the different woodtypes, etc. There's changes that help with inventory QoL or that allow for more redstone automation if you're interested in those.

Natura is another mod that adds to worldgen. Specifically it adds quite a few new types of trees, berry bushes, and new biomes and mobs to the Nether. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, but most of the features wouldn't be out of place in Vanilla.

Realistic World Generation produces MUCH more interesting looking world's than the vanilla world generator.

Chisel (2) adds lots of variants to existing blocks in the game, and IIRC, the textures were lifted from Painterly in the beginning, not sure if that's still the case.

So now here's a few that stray more from the base game but are IMO still worthy improvements.

Storage Drawers adds some nice ways to store large quantities of items. You can see which items are stored where in the overworld, and there's lots of visual variety.

Tinker's Construct changes the way you make tools and allows for more flexibility in their construction. You make tool parts individually and stick them together to make your tools. It also replaces the awful Vanilla enchanting system with a differently-awful slightly better spend X resource to improve your tool system.

If you're not using Tinker's Construct, TreeCapitator makes chopping down trees a lot less annoying. It still takes as long as chopping each block individually, but you don't have to climb to the top: breaking the bottom block breaks them all.
