Star Citizen Information:

It is the standing Recommendation of /scg/ that if your game package contains an Aurora MR, Aurora ES or Mustang Alpha you would be well served to upgrade it to an Aurora LN. It's only like ten bucks and provides a significant increase in firepower and survivability without any real downsides.
Be aware, this is the gateway drug to wasting your life savings on spaceship jpegs, keep your discipline and don't upgrade further unless you specifically want to buy Ben more eyeballs(and cheese), finance Sandi's dreams of being a C grade actor, fuel Chris's cocaine habit and send Erin and Brian into crippling inescapable depression.

Fucking nothing. The same demo as last year with heavy scripting and a crash. There was an Idris "battle" but it was shit. Instead they decided to partner with some literally who company to integrate a facerig knockoff into the game for maximum voicechat immersion purposes.

quite a lot of stuff actually, Inergrated face and headtracking in game, combined with Ingame Voip basically using your webcam to drive your in game characters face and speech.
Functional idris with a cap on cap battle at the end, full ground station to space to QT to space to ground and back to space mission. Origin 600 reveal, its a worse constellation for more money that lets everyone around you know that you're more wealthy but less intelligent than them.

The Idris is designed for concrete runway terrain, when landed, like, military bases. Its gonna spend 99.9% of its life in space, no idea why it needs a vehicle ramp at all. Like with modern carriers it could just load its fighters once its underway.

In elite, vehicles are used to explore bases with anti-air defenses. Can still just use a ship to blow up the defenses but that usually brings a bounty and fine.

But that's a special condition though, requiring a legal system where bounties and consequence, however minor exist. A hidden unknown pirate base on a moon? Player should vaporize anything that moves while inside a ship then land to grab the loot, that demo where they showed a Freelancer landing and them getting out to fight vehicles and on foot only to have the Freelancer come back at the end to kill all the pirates was dumb.

>By Brenna Hillier, Friday, 28 June 2013 04:17 GMT
>Why do the ships in Star Citizen look so good? Because each one cost at least $35,000 to make, that’s how.
>
>“It can be anywhere from $35,000 to $150,000,” Roberts told Joystiq of the cost of developing a single ship.
>
>That cost includes the time used to make the model as well as to model realistic functions; it includes a number of moving parts and animated dashboards.
>
>Each ship has a “wrapper” of up to 70 million polygons for the largest ships. Cloud Imperium Games claims a fighter will be made from about 300,000 polygons, ten times more than the 30,000 it estimates are used in a typical triple-A game’s vehicle models.
>
>You can see an example of the expense paying off in a recent in-engine trailer.
>
>Star Citizen has amassed over $10 million in crowdfunding and had broken records. It’s probably going to need it. The full article through the link above contains further discussion of the costs of developing the ambitious space sim sandbox.
>
>Star Citizen is expected on PC in 2014.

It looks decent, however they are taking the wrong path. They are treating this still like it's 2014. It's 2017. People have put in a lot of money, and they have high hopes for the game.

Why not pull the brake on enthusiastic "whole galaxy" meme and just work out one or two systems? It'd be so beneficial for them to just focus on ironing out the bugs, since the game is at an OK level now. Don't fucking torch me for saying that, but for what it is - it is a mediocre okay. It needs fine tuning, bug removal and turning it into a game with content rather than a void tech demo which is what it's been so far.

I just want to play this fucking game and lead a boarding party of space marines. Stop giving me blue balls CIG.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of guilds and clans out there that want to do team play - I think the game will favor team play over zerg fighter spam.

Some of them are die hard cultists, but others just want to LARP as Tom Cruise in the year of 2145 launching off a space carrier. I think I fall into the latter group by just wanting to board ships and kill people with a solid, non-faggoty group of people.

>>187264705
Yeah. Jesus, why doesn't CIG man the fuck up and say it how it is instead of sugar coating? It's in their interest to make a good game, be it small at first. First impressions matter, best example would be No Man's Sky.

Don't trade carrack for endev unless you have several crew, Endeavour is basically a "science" cap ship, and will require several people to be functional. Its just too large for one person to manage. For $150 you could pick up a Constellation Taurus, which will be a money printer for hauling and is soloable. Or for 200 you could get a Hull C when they go on sale. If you're not attached to the Carrack you could stick the $200 on that and make it a Hull-E, which with some help from friend or an org will make huge profit on trade volume alone.

Do you have any LTI tokens?
>>
>>187272397
Yeah i have lti tokens on buyback as well. I dont think Ill go with mega hauling, but Taurus/Flancer Max would be my max.

I think Ill stick with Carrack/Terrapin, and either ccu Dfly into a allarounder ship like cutlass, or Taurus like you mentioned.

or Keep the UEE pack as is and sell 210bucks in space market :3

After reviewing comments by fanboys on the Gamescom presentation by Chris Roberts and his gang of comedians, I've come to the conclusion that Roberts is leading a fucking cult.

Most of the comments amount to something along the lines of "haters are the same ones who pre-order EA games," or "the people hating are probably paid by Derek Smart," several outright calls to "ban" everyone criticizing the showcase, and to top it off, they've convinced themselves that the show wasn't scripted.

Let's recap:
>Fat useless fuck shows off awesome features and a neat mission consisting of a raid on a pirate base
>Promises it in December 2016
>August 2017, returns to Gamescom with the exact same fucking build, still hasn't been pushed to the live server
>this time it has features no one wants and that will probably require a proprietary webcam
>this time it still runs like dogshit
>crashes during the middle of the show, Roberts paces around muttering under his breath and wildly ordering his crew around like lil' Kim
>the exact same fucking thing we watched last year, but worse this time, is hailed as the greatest thing to ever happen to videogames

They said in the presentation it'll work with standard webcams just fine but theirs was built for 60fps and dark light conditions. At no point was it claimed as being required and yet here and on Elite Dangerous forums they keep trying to fuel that rumor for some reason.
>>
>>187277972
We'll be on thread no. 500 by the time it eventually drops. I'm immensely fucking skeptical that 3.0 goes live by the end of the year.

You all saw how little progress has been made in a year. Why would this time around be any different? The projected date of the update will come and go, nothing new will be added.

I'm glad I never paid up for this shitshow, not that Elite (which I did buy) is any fuckin better though. It's a game that exists and you can play it is as far as I can compliment ED and ftroupe right now.

Honestly what they've shown us really does look amazing.
But for fuck sake everytging depends on them getting the netcode working and getting the games performance optimised.
Is that even possible?
Maybe not.
>>
>>187278430
The netcode won't be fully done tell next year then they have to make the gamecode work with it it's too early to judge right now.
>>
>>187278430
It's dumbfounding to me that they're finding ways to compund the load SC will put on networks and PCs without first getting the game optimized and running smoothly at least on their demo machines.

It really looks like they're developing a game back to front.

>why the fuck would I not take anything said during those shows with an entire Pacific Ocean worth of salt?
And? It's hardware not software even if they locked it down someone would mod a fix anyways. So why bother? Especially when they know internet personalities already have webcams and want them to pick up the game.

Does anyone think we will get a response from CIG about why the presentation was so bad and why they are so far behind? This was beyond the pale, even for CIG's normal amount of cringy shittyness.

It's the money, Lebowski. If they hype a proprietary camera players need for the new thing, they can sell it on their site and both RSI and the company producing the cameras can make bank. Someone will likely mod a fix, sure, but that sure as fuck wouldn't stop a short-run profit from slipping in until the product is inevitably discontinued.

They've already sold $3,000 internet spaceships for a game they're not developing. Why not try to sneak this through?

after the system for transferring and managing players in instances is complete, they have to block off rooms in the game which will section off the smallest areas of instances. every single area in the game has to be done with this, and done with areas designed going forward.
there has to be a separate system to tell when you don't see people on the other side of the moon, on the server side. this is not a difficult mathematical problem though.

the neat thing is that this effectively kills wall hacks.

can you capture people in call of duty? no. all firefights are going to end in death in 1-2 seconds given the current mechanics. no boarding is going to take place either because all battles are going to end in ship explosions in under 1 minute.

they have zero mechanics in place to enable to kind of gameplay they talked about. it's going to be running/flying for 1 hour to die to something you didn't see and losing a bunch of stuff. random deathmatch everywhere.

what we need is for ships to be disabled rather than destroyed, and for people to have more health and be incapacitated rather than just drop dead. more left 4 dead than call of duty. otherwise nothing interesting will ever happen.

well they had a patching system, it was just the default CryTek one that wasn't designed to handle the constant and small changes of an MMO.

FaceShit is obviously a distraction technique. They lied so much last year, they couldn't catch up and were facing Gamescom 2017 with the prospect of showing even less than last year (lol).

Their solution to show they were making """progress""" was to throw a pile of money at a third party for some crap gimmick tech nobody asked for or wants.

And yet it's working perfectly! The sunk cost /r/etards are actually defending it!!! "Thank you CIG" And the investment will pay double when they can blame delaying 3.0 again into 2018 on this face crap 3rd party just like last year.

considering they seemed to have gone with the "nerf all the other ships instead of buffing the combat variant" idea of balance for the 300 series, I'd doubt it.

That and I half expect they'll just ditch the idea of any of them holding cargo at all and just make them a slightly better, faster mustang beta.

Kills only count towards the earliest mission you took for each faction, and scans only count toward the earliest incomplete mission you have for that location.
This does not actually stop Quince scan stacking though, because the outpost that spawns is in fact many stacked in one spot and you can cycle through the data points that all spawned inside each other to scan them all.
Tourist NPCs now know which bacon is the right one so you actually have to visit both beacons in Quince to finish your stack.

I caricatured, but top-down hierarchy only work if you have the game enforce roles like Gun of Icarus,
without it it will only be roleplay while guild metagame, gunners doing field repair, fusing coxswain/captain/radar, shield guy managing power as well.
CIG mentioned clearly that they intended to distribute screen at will.

Because we're SUPPOSED to have a system where doors lock and unlock depending on your role, clearance level, or otherwise how the owner of a ship assigns them. They've played with some ideas, many of which have never been mentioned again. The most commonly presented one is the idea of selling limited amounts of UEC for real money after release. If I recall correctly, they played with the idea of having "Advanced Starter Packs" that give you slightly higher grade ships in them than the default, like instead of an Aurora or Mustang it'd be an Avenger or something. The one thing they have said is that the pledge store is going to go away for good some day.

This is a low gravity moon, maybe less than 0.5G, it's logical that >1G RCS make surface gravity invisible, that's their jobs.
There's nothing to change, any planet with at least 1G will do what you expect because then you'll need all the thrust you can have, giant ship like the Reclaimer, the Idris, or the Javelin will need vertical engine.

about that, I fear that heavy ship like the Starfarer will look illogical if they can fly with barely visible vertical thruster

Somewhat related to what you said, I hope they implement it so that ships that have tilting thrusters automatically switch to some sort of atmospheric mode on reentry. Currently they just seem to be hovering on regular mav thrusters (even the Idris in the demo) and the main engines only tilt when deploying landing gear.

>>187328387
I'm sure it will be a "three attempts and then locked for 15 minutes" kind of deal. Also your mobiglass will probably have a proximity RFID unlocker for your ships. Like, given how autistic CIG has been about everything, Im sure there will be a myriad of options for ship security. keyed entry, keycard entry, passcodes for both doors and systems, biometrics, and so on. And then to coutner that there will be hacking, false documentation, duplicate keys, door breaching tools. Its a major game mechanic, given how central piracy and ship security are to an FPS game about spaceships and money.

Check your math anon.

If RCS thruster can give 1G of acceleration in any direction, it mean they only need half their power to hover a 0.5G moon and can accelerate upward as fast as they would fall.
And a moon like Titan with a big atmosphere have a gravity of only 0.13G, with 1G thruster you would be able to accelerate upward 9 time faster than you would fall
And that's assuming they make it hard to lift-off in 1G without the main engine.

>you wouldn't even know unless someone told you
Say the guy who need to be explained the math. I've heard about Elite ship landing on planet with 2G, any ship incapable of flying upside down on a 0.5G moon as if it was 0G would feel retarded.

Do planets have range above 1g ,or is star citizen only going for 1g maximum? Why not just disallow certain ships from planet surfaces?

I don't know what flying a spaceships is like in real life, but in elite the ships have thrusters all over the body, not just the back (I hope you didn't assume otherwise) and the heavier ships struggle to safely land on 2g planets, if you don't have enough thrusters to your mass you'll actually be unable to leave the planet.

>>
>>187333075
>the heavier ships struggle to safely land on 2g planets

It's mostly laden traders or explorers with weak low-mass thrusters that you see struggling to land on ~2G planets.
The planetary approach suite allows a ship to route much of its main drive thrust through the body thrusters, essentially overdriving them, at the expense of horizontal acceleration/deceleration and heat generation. With high spec thrusters, especially modified for added power, a Corvette can land and take off relatively easily on a 6G planet like Achenar 3. Light fighters with modded performance enhanced drives can maneuver in 1-2Gs almost like they were still in zero G.
Though for some reason the suite is heavily optimized for flying upright/nose up. Inverting in high-G and trying to maneuver will do very bad things to your cooling system and in extreme cases overwhelm the thrusters and you will start falling.

Well, It would be logical for human to NOT live over planet with a gravity too strong for them, and economically fighting back gravity would discourage any mining.

>heavier ships struggle to safely land on 2g planets
>be unable to leave the planet.

Careful there, if they only struggled at 2G it mean they DO have thruster capable of more than 2G, else they wouldn't be able to reduce speed. And if they can reduce their descent speed it mean they can lift-off and fly away, it will just take forever.

The only case where you wouldn't be able to take-off again would be if you descended on your tail using your more powerful main engine, then toppled horizontally with thruster too weak to bring you back up.

>>187333401
You are right but lacking imagination.

This is a Starwars/Battlestar space opera, of course it's unrealistic. Realistically space fighter would never exist (except fucked up setting) and you would have space-only spaceship exchanging cargo with surface-to-orbit spaceship. (Just look for "Children of a dead Earth" or "The Expanse")

But as consistency goes, this is not because you can hover vertically on a Earth-like planet that it doesn't use resources you would prefer to use elsewhere. Making your ship aerodynamic allow you to go faster using very little thrust.

Anon, let's start again, you just demonstrated I was right. The ship can fly upside down just on its thrusters and have more than enough thrust for people to notice the difference with 0G
1G is a very big acceleration : 10m/s2
This is not because you use half of it (on a very very massive moon) that it is not realistic to move sideway as if in 0G
If someone think it feel wrong this is only because they are used to Earth were VTOL fighter can barely get above get 2m/s2 of upward acceleration using al their power.

>>187335052
True, we've been simplifying and it's starting to bite when we have to explain the detail after
Just like a thruster rated for a 1G planet would need to have more than 1G, not exactly 1 G

Let's get this straight, the first complaint was that it looked silly for ship to move so easily,
Except that this is a moon and SC fighter have 1G RCS making it totally logical
Elite get brought in >>187325702, saying that tilting make gravity more apparent

And the point stand that unless your RCS (all direction) are weaker than the "Landing suite" thruster >>187334817, it would be a completely artificial way of pretending gravity is harsh. Because SC's fighter can accelerate 1G in all direction and we were talking of moons with less than 0.5 gravity.

So just let the damn fighter drift upside down on a moon, they won't be able to anyway when they'll be on any celestial body (moon or planets) with ~1 gravity.

Just wish I knew what was the gravity on Daymar, it would close the topic fast
>>
>>187340059

So on the topic of gravity in elite, what he deal with SRVs dropping so fast and taking so much hull damage on "fall" (through shields too). You drop faster and harder than the rocks you shoot, which given my basic understanding of stuff, shouldn't happen.
>>

>>187340528
I'm not sure I follow. Most of my frustration with SRV's has been going flying all over the place on low gravity moons and having no grip.
>>
>>187341421
This sounds counter intuitive, but if you go 0 pips in engines in the SRV, it is much easier to handle.
>>
>>187341270
Well, it has a reloadable missile launcher that can fire 10 S5s in one volley at least.
>>
>>187340528
>through shields too
SRV shields are designed to let the ground and anchored structures pass through them, otherwise you wouldn't be able to drive. As a consequence they can't protect the chassis from falling or collisions with the same.
>You drop faster
You don't, though. You accelerate downward at the same rate as rocks do. A good example of this is the Thargoid barnacle encounter where SRVs and debris can get pulled into the air. When the pull shuts off both SRVs and debris will accelerate at the same rate under gravity.
This actually brings up a good point, though. On low grav planets they probably should fall faster because they have compensation thrusters in their wheel hubs that push the vehicle down under low grav.
>and harder
You weigh more than a material fragment does, so yes, you will hit the ground harder.
>>
>>187341527
>driving more slowly makes a vehicle easier to handle

You don't say.

I guess the shielding makes sense, I'm sure you actually do fall faster, that thargoid stuff is an event and I can't trust how much is scripted having not experienced it myself, are there any contacts (materials or cargo) at the same time dropping?

The downward thrust would make sense but then I've never noticed it or any noises that would indicate it happening, only when you turn/tilt in mid-jump

Shit falling isn't scripted. As soon as the tharg shuts off its tractor beam or whatever the fuck that thing is, shit that got lifted off the ground just falls like anything does under gravity.

The debris that gets lifted normally includes barnacle shards from shooting the spikes, which aren't contacts, as well as materials and meta alloy pods which are. If you eject regular cargo canisters in the area they're affected too. The lifting of objects off the ground is some sort of physics effect and no objects behave under a script. It affects everything light enough in the area.

Materials shot off rocks appear "floaty" because they're thrown upwards and have to slow down before falling back down. Plus they don't go up very far so their speed is never very high. Contrast with your SRV, which is itself taller than most materials even arc in the air, then of course it to fall quickly when you throw it off a cliff taller than it is at 0 initial upwards velocity. Or you only take note of the descent half of a jump.

What gets me is, they really had nothing new, which is fine because they've been bullshiting for so long it's nice that they're (kind of) actually where they said they were a year ago, but since they didn't lie, again, about something that was "right around the corner" despite being at least a year away, they could have at least put some effort into showing off what they had, rather than it being a clusterfuck. Enough's been said about their god awful "banter," but even without that the demo was a disaster. Just because you want to be honest about where you're at doesn't mean you have to display bugs in a presentation. Pre-recording it to make sure there weren't bugs shown would have been fine, as the point is to show off what's possible in the game, not the problems it's facing.

Anti-cap combat performance aside, the Idris seems pretty nice to use as a mobile base. Multicrew for bounties will probably get you a few hundred thousand pretty easy if you can get into a ship in a res site.

Buying medicines (from High Tech) and take them to outbreak systems, buying food (Agriculture) and take it to Famine systems. You'll get around 2-3k profit per basic medicine.

Or you could just ask a rich CMDR (basically anyone flying a python, clipper or FAS, or ranked above dangerous or better) nicely to buy/drop you a bunch of whatever the most expensive commodity is outside the no fire zone and just use collector limpets to gather them.

If you're in Australia region dump your CMDR name and I'll add you and I can travel by and drop you a heap of stuff if you want.

When you're new you don't have the ranks in combat, trade or exploration so you wont get the rewards for those ranks. It's not like how it used to be where missions are rank locked, you can take any mission but you wont get the elite payout rate (or whatever the rank you're missing), only the rate for the rank you're currently on.

Passenger missions are probably better and safer for straight cash than cargo deliveries at this point
>>
>>187339040
Theoretically, long range escort fighters with some mini living areas like the Banu defender was something the game needs a lot more of since carriers are rare and ship docking seems to be getting phased out... But the design of it is just fucking terrible, those prongs do nothing but get in the way.
>>
>>187364146
I walked a new player through starting the game and there were several 50-60k data missions right out of the gate. That's enough to jump straight into an Eagle.
>>

>tfw you thought SC would be different than ED
I still have some hope. How pissed they are and how little response they've gotten from CIG tells me that CIG might not give a fuck about appeasing them, but it's difficult to believe CIG will ultimately alienate the only active demographic of their community and the one spending thousands on the game.
>>
>>187364226
>long range escort "fighters" with sleeping accommodations.
Vanguard
315P for light duty
Retaliator - torps + crew quarters would make an OK escort hull.
Avenger.
Freelancer, Stock Mis and Dur could all serve as convoy escorts for larger ships.
Constellation Andromeda
Redeemer

I'm sure convoying will be big, highly advantageous, don't need as many escorts if you have dozens of haulers concentrate together providing mutual support. As long as everyone does in fact support and are not just using everyone else as meat shields while they flee. I Imagine successful convoy organizers will be in high demand, seeing how if its done right every involved saves money on both losses and money spent on escorts.
>>187339040
Forgettable shit like the banu defender will add flavor and variety to the game. It would be far worse for every encounter to be one of the 20 hulls in game that everyone flies because thats all there is than for there to be a bunch of hulls that barely anyone flies. Tbh what we really need more of is freighters, more variety, older ships maybe not in production anymore, anything to break up monotony. One thing that will strangle immersive gameplay in its crib is if the encounters in space become repetitive and formulaic right out of the gate.

High sec in SC is going to be like High sec in EVE in eve except with the instant security presence in case of unlawful combat. It will take time for cops to arrive even above Terra.

I'm not going to dig back through 4 years of atvs to find where he's said it outright but CRs has said several times that SC is intended to be a PvP game and that he there will be no safezones besides little bubbles around officially secured placed like port ollie. It'll be like the witcher where a "drawn" or powered up weapons sytem will be considered a declaration of hostile intent and NPCs will act accordingly, first challenging, then attacking if you don't power down your weapons, but this will only apply in areas with security forces already present, Out in space will be the wild west, with crime only being responded to if record of it is collected and delivered to authorities.
>>
>>187366474

It was somehow worse than what I was expecting I had to turn it off because of the horrible role play. I thought the marketing team would learn from the bad role play from the Star Marine presentation way back when but nope. Chris needs to fire the marketing team clean house and hire some new people. Also the build was not in good enough shape for a live demo it should of been pre recorded.

All of this was avoidable this is why it's so frustrating it would of been better if they had no presentation because it probably turned off new potential new backers.

Maybe the presentation was not disaster that the retards on /v/ think it is? It was about what I expected. Chris Roberts' presentation was stiff and awkward and the stage demo had bugs and visible strings in the scripting. They announced some new ships and showed off some new features and completion goals. And as usual, /v/ claimed that Chris Roberts belongs in jail because something clipped through the floor in an alpha stage demo.

The dangling carrot I'm still following is that I want to see something substantial for Squadron 42. Episode One of S42 is supposed to be a real, finished game that can be judged fairly and not as the seed of an MMO. When I see genuine progress on S42 and not just cutscenes, that would probably do a lot to rejuvenate my faith in the project, but my gut tells me that they won't show S42 until they can show it at E3, which is why they skipped E3 this year, and will continue to skip it until and unless they can do a live stage demo of a Squadron 42 mission.

All of my uncles (on my dad's side, so apparently has nothing to do with me), but not my dad, went bald in their twenties, my brother had a receding hairline, and I'm pretty sure mine is starting to recede and thin. For the record I've been complimented on my hair my entire life as it's a rich brown with copper tones, and is thick and lush. I'm 21. Going bald doesn't make you a dad, it's how you respond to it. Dads feel cucked by their baldness and live in denial. Non-dads due something about, whether it be going que-ball or finding a good solution, and move on.
>>
>>187374351
I have head of people saying they can play it with a mouse but I think the experience is abysmal. That said you don't need a HOTAS the game is completely playable with a game pad/xbox controller. I actually prefer my game pad it a lot of cases, with the modifier buttons almost no control is sacrificed and you get to be way comfier.

they have several other things in that range, they just don't get officially called starters
Hull A
300i
Avenger Titan
and maybe the mustangs will suck a little less after the rework.

Course the keep increasing prices on shit for no good reason. The Hull A will probably go up to 75-80 when it's flyable. They might just remove the Titan from the store once you can actually switch out the modules. The 300i will almost assuredly get a price bump, and there's a rumor that they finally realized the LN is almost viable as a real ship, so that's going up too in 3.0 with the cutlass. Not to mention the Reliant should have stayed at 50, especially if it's really only going to have the one wing gun mount.

It looks faster than the pew pews, but it's hard to tell. It could be faster though. CIG is pretty shit at balancing, with this being the most obvious symptom. There's so many other ways to balance a large gun like that without making the travel speed so unsatisfying. They could have lengthened the charge up, and added an obvious as fuck there's about to be a rail gun blast up your butthole so countermeasures could be taken in the same amount of time as watching the blast travel through space. then you can have a nice, satisfying instant blast across the battlefield without actually changing gameplay. They also could/should require a minimum power requirement once power diversion means something. Make using it temporarily divert 66% of power to the weapons system or something. They're just so unimaginative when it comes to balance.

What did you smoke?
The Polaris is meant to do everything the Eclipse could only do with numbers and punch above, stealth will make your Eclipse slow, work against you if you need active sensor and won't have a good fighter for defense.

The best match for the Polaris can only be a fighter ship that can do recon/hacking faster than him, so you are always on the move and not a target yourself for Eclipse bomber (Polaris will have weaker shield)

>combat speed
That's the very reason they don't need to get any slower, if you did, everything will be flying circle of 10m radius. You wouldn't have a maneuverability versus speed gameplay because everything would be at the same speed.
Big asteroid would feel more like big dumb object you must slowly get around rather than dangerous but rewarding obstacle to use in battle.
If you did that you would also need to reduce weapon range so it's not easy to snipe the slow target 100m away with a mouse.
Last, If it get any slower it will make Afterburner/cruise look ridiculously fast with no transition.

>It's been a while since I played but it's somewhat like this now, right? My point is combat speed is still too fast.
Go retest it, just to be sure you have played it after the 50% speed reduction

>Anyone else think the ships in SC are too fast in combat?
no, in fact I think every ship besides the m50/350r needs about 20m/s added to their combat speeds to hit the real sweet spot (basically their pre 2.0 speeds) , and the cruise speeds of all the larger multicrew ships doubled
>>
>>187389295
And it'll probably be 2 updates instead of 4 like in s2.

It's stupid, what's next? even smaller planet?
"Look everybody, we made a space game and then made spaceship slower than golf cart and asteroids for babies, because some baby piss himself anytime things go too fast for him"

>>187388475
I see no problem there, fighter always buzz around capital ship, it look cool. Only things that could have a problem are turrets and they are already on that.
>>
>>187389834
>even smaller planet?
yes. so that they will actually be full of content instead of a procedural desert.

Play retard if you want, if I have to do a trek in the desert I don't want every place of interest to be visible on foot and I want my spacebike to go there as fast as starwars speeder, not slower than scooter.
Too many games have turned into point and click because they catered to child with ADD.

It's time we make mission or solo game where you can't predict the outcome light year away

It really isn't for the vast majority of people. Flight sims are played by a tiny handful of people with actual autism.

what the fuck is an eclipse, now? I have not kept up with the ship treadmill in this game at all. I hope it's like CR initially envisioned, with more ships out there than the average player could ever memorize, so there's always something new and interesting, and not just a continual power progression where people who bought first tier ships (like me) are hopelessly underpowered for their faith early on.

they really fucked up by making the skin textures individual to the parts rather than uniform across the body. you can clearly see the line where the pieces intersect. I bet a simple fix would make them look a lot better. still ridiculous, but they are supposed tro be aliens.
