Overall, I buy because I have no reason not to. I like to support things I enjoy financially, especially since my interests and standards of living are all comparably cheap and I thus have the opportunity to. On the other hand, I am rather weary of digital purchases. I like CDs, physical books, all that stuff. Things that are plug an play, and independent of the machine they are put in. Software purchases often, at least in the past decades, came with crippling licensing terms which often restrict the consumer's ability to use the product in what I find is an intrusive fashion (especially, the number of machines a game can be installed on). While Steam and friends do not solve this problem completely, they at least allow you to install the games anywhere and everywhere, provided you have an account. This model hinges on my trust in, for example, valve because it is not really _me_ that owns the games, but my account which they have control over. Or are JAST games DRM free, in which case the problem would of course be equally resolved.
