It happened with Pokemon Sun and Moon too. I was watching the dump happen live on /vp/. It was hilarious. The devs went through the trouble of dummying out all of the Pokemon models but they left all of the Pokedex sprites in (I I think, it was some kind of static model). People kept digging even further and we got new attacks, names, stats, etc. We basically got the entire Pokedex just a few days after the demo came out. I'd be surprised if Nintendo ever does a core series Pokemon demo again.

I think Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed are probably the best voice acted Sonic games (aside from Chip, everyone else is great). The current voice staff is great but the direction is poor. The main characters always sound bored as hell besides Eggman and Cubot/Orbot. The VAs for SA2 were mixed. Some were great like Drummond, Bristow and whoever did Shadow and Rouge. Some were terrible like Tails and Knuckles. For the most part the direction was good. Same thing with the 4Kids voices. He was designed the way he was by Naoto Ohshima so kids would have an easier time drawing him and being a fat, mustached man wearing red made for a perfect antagonist to Sonic. Sure, the gameplay itself pleases nearly everyone. If you were to put any number of people in front of Mania, they would say it is a good game. But the marketing of Mania mainly stems from nostalgia about an era over 20 years old. Forces has the advantage of going to a younger, more modern demographic. I'm currently trying to speedrun Sonic Mania stages, but I'm having a lot of trouble controlling how fast my spin dash is. Even when I mash all three buttons for my life, it seems I can only dash at top speed perhaps 25% of the time, which is making it really hard for me to be consistent. Look at the New Super Mario Bros series. The games individually are fantastic. They're wonderful. But if you played the first, there's no reason to play the second. They're so incredibly similar. The gameplay is the same, though we have new music, bosses, levels, powerups, story etc. but there's barely anything to differentiate the two. It's a stale series. This is what I feel with happen if they keep pushing out Mania sequels. Innovation needs to happen.

More can be done with Adventure and Boost because fans of those games are okay with with change. They're okay with Sonic new gimmicks like Wisps in Colors or rail grinding in SA2. If you start adding gameplay components to the classic games, suddenly it's not 'classic Sonic' anymore. Do you remember the backlash against the drop dash when it was first revealed? People thought it would break the game and make it too easy. They thought it would be worse than a homing attack.

The edgiest thing in the game, Infinite's Theme, has only 873 dislikes compared to 37,110 likes. And look down at the comments. While there are comments calling out the edge and such, the majority are positive. The reason I connect it to younger people is because a major element, the Character Creator, was specifically called out as having been made for younger fans by Iizuka. So that shows me where their focus lies.
