A bit shorter than the others, as I predicted, but I don't think I could have padded it out much more without compromising the story. Enjoy.

IMO your best work yet.

This might be just nitpicking, but I think 'butt' or something would fit the atmosphere of the story better than 'ass'.

It's actually pretty hard coming up with ones that aren't just the exact same thing.

Yeah, I really really should do more editing. It's probably my biggest weakness. These are written 100% stream of conscience as the words pop into my head, and I throw them up as soon as I finish.

I think I started off using words like "butt, rear" etc, and then switched to more impolite words as the action got more inappropriate.

I do wonder if the ruins of Megalith are going to be making an apperance or mention in AC7 since the Princess was mentioning Oseans attacking indiscriminately, not realising that her own country almost bombed the Usean continent as revenge, as well as attack civilians seen in one mission. There's so many oppertunities for references that it would be hard to count. Plus it would be nice to hear what happened to ISAF if that wasn't covered already.

Not sure of how many here have played PS3/Xbox 360 era Armored Core games, but how would you feel about fighters having Quick Boost and/or Primal Armor (damage dampening shields)? What about fighters having those in a settings where mechs have those technologies?

Why Huxian isn't Mead, in three main points:
1. Mead has a brace on her right leg, which would make her unable to fly
2. We never see her in a flightsuit, only doing mechanic stuff.
3. Why would Mug-dude be explaining to Mead the story of Trigger being foolish and trying to help his allies reach safety, if she was there?

>>187013429

I was thinking human-sized capsule, carriable on a hardpoint or in a slot where the copilot would be.
My idea involves a psychic pushing the aircraft around and slowing down incoming projectiles. Giving further details would be quite rambly.
>>
>>187013661
Plane AC not robert AC

>>187013834
That or something TLS or even Macross pack sized if you want the experimental look is what I would go for for a shield. No clue on the spoiler
>>
>>187014196
The spoiler is specific to the setting I'm working on, but it gives an idea of the system's size. It's also the way I explain those feature without ripping off the Armored Core in-universe "scientific" explanations or the GN particles from Gundam 00.

What sort of relationship do you guys think Cipher and Pixy had? Do you think they were close friends? Maybe friendly rivals? I always thought it was an uneasy friendship, as in they were amiable enough toward each other, but they were both extremely confident in their abilities and both men believed they were the better of the two, and generally tried not to get in each other's way when on the ground, in the downtime between missions.

yeah, grindcore is extremely angsty. its an offshoot of extreme metal mixed with metalcore. that band I linked is probably the most listenable grindcore band out there.

I also listen to drone and ambient stuff but I recognize it 100% isn't for everyone. I just care a lot about this general and value people's opinions here more than the average place on 4chan, I guess.

Ya but the burst mass is what matters, the total of the 20mm all firing at once is equivalent to 52.5 ounces whilst the 7.62 would only be 5.2 ounces per one round burst. So it comes down to speed and less recoil being the 7.62 whilst the 20mm focusing on immediate firepower to destroy anything the rounds hit.

Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars (Seikai no Monshou/Senki) are a series of space opera novels published from 1999 to 2013. No idea if it's still ongoing, but novel translation died when Tokyopop went under. At least the three Crest novels are available. I would link the english trailer to the (dated, tbqh) anime but it really doesn't do it justice.
Lafiel is one of the protagonists, the princess to the Abh empire, an interstellar empire ruled by transhumans, the namesake Abh. The ears are the distinguishing feature of the Abriel family.
I think the crossover between Seikai and ML is that one of the main characters in Muv Luv had it's speech patterned after Lafiel's.

It's mostly about the relationship between Jinto, a Lander (normal human) elevated to nobility when his father surrendered his colony in exchange of remaining the governor, and Lafiel, an Abh, as he learns about the Abh and the rest of the setting. There's some politicking and a hefty amount of space battles, though those mostly pick up during the Banner arc, since that's when the Abh decide to go into all out war.
I'll admit it's been a long time and I only remember the exact plot for a few of the volumes.

If you do go ahead with the series, I'd recommend watching the anime first (Crest > Banner > Banner II > Banner III) mostly because the artstyle isn't that good. The more recent manga is currently covering the Crest novels and has great art and more fleshed out characters, so going from that art to the anime will be jarring at best.
Some warnings: avoid the first manga, it makes the anime art look like a masterpiece and skips a lot of things. The dub for the anime isn't very good imho, so I'd recommend watching it subbed instead.

Early on the artstyle has weirdly stylized heads before it transitions towards a more standard early 2000 style in the Banner series. The animation is however quite consistent and there are no major moments where things were off-model that I remember.
Crest and Banner are 13 episodes each, Banner II is 10 episodes long and Banner III is a two part OVA. There's also Birth, a shorter prequel OVA.

Not so much how long of a runway, as how wide... It looks like a super scaled up version of NASA's solar plane.

It would make sense if it was a seaplane, but again, it's so damn wide that it seems like it would snap in half if it was side on to a wave, plus there doesn't seem to be any landing gear from the trailer screenshots.

There might be enough space in Erusean deserts.
>>
>>187072810
Possibly, the main advantage would probably be weight though, imagine adding a massive tail to it. Look at gliders for some reference proportions.
The main factor here is to assume that it is light enough and that it produces enough lift that it doesn't need a really fast take off speed.

The thick but seemingly flexible wing and prop engines kinda hint at low speed flying

>>187073180
There is either some complex one time launcher that lifts them or the gear and all is well hidden and there are special runways. It's no seaplane like Gleipnir or the airfleet though, the wing probably wouldn't be able to lift off the water and half if not all the engines would be below the waterline anyway.
>>
>>187073416
A desert would be a good place to launch from. Arsenal Bird strikes me as something that seems designed to never have to land, which means nuclear or solar, both of which would give it flight endurance measured in years. It's probably totally unmanned.

>>187073619
I was thinking that if they had a bunch of these aresenal birds, it might behoove them to have some sort of low impulse launch vehicle like an ekranoplan.

>>187073619
>>187073860
Having no gear and being designed to never land seems like a really good way to have a single fault cause the entire thing to just crash into the ground eventually because no one can fix it. The thing would still need maintenance like any other vehicle.

Like for magnetic rails, I mean it would waste tons of energy for contactless launch and recover.
>>
>>187075968
Well from what I gathered Psychics tend to get fucked over a lot anyhow, so this isn't that far off. Still creepy tech
>>
>>187076627
For some explanation, I'm working on two timelines (no parallel world shehanigans, just alternate histories), so they share major bullet points. On the other timeline I'm focusing on the psychics themselves without fucking them over that much (a much more peaceful timeline), but on the other one (continuous wars on Mars and no Earth intervention), it felt appropiate to think about how they could be applied as weapons.
It might be the creepiest set of technologies but I don't think it's the weirdest.

I've started working on the next fic. This one will be a little different from the others. I'm writing it in first person and I'll try my hand at jet combat, so it may not be as well written as my other ones.
>>

If you're uncertain about your combat scenes, (though personally I think you already have the requisite skill to do fine based off your previous work) I can do some beta-ing for you as a fellow writer if you're interested.

>basically sitting in a classroom listening to Val drone on for hours about some obscure piece of tech on an F-4 that no one younger than 65 has heard of
Sounds like a good way to kill 5-6 hours.
>>
>>187081242
What >>187081319 said. There is also manuals floating around.

The general gist though is to connect a GPU or, if the plane has one, to start the APU, so there is power, and then the engines and avionics. Of course modern jets have a billion systems and procedures but I doubt anyone really needs those in detail in a story

But I only fly props so I only know so much about jets. I'm sure Thunder can autism an F4 startup together

You could always just put the excerpt up so people can give input on it

>>187081554
>only 5-6 hours
Being optimistic I see
>>
>>187081242
You don't need to go into detail about that really (something like: "Flight Leader, I have you on my screen. You are cleared for auxiliary runway number two. Don't screw around. We have more hostiles on the way."
"This is Zero-Five-Eight. Roger. Auxiliary number two. Coming straight in." should suffice for those parts.

Where you want the want the real meaty writing to be is in the actual dogfighting scenes.

>>
>>187081789
To expand on my example, which describes an a two-man Yuktobanian squadron coming back from a sortie touching down on an airbase that's been under incessant attack:
"Watch for the smoke, Flight Leader. We have burning fuel."
"With me, Fifty-nine?" Sobelev called to his wingman.
"Roger, Fifty-eight."
"You're in first. Number two's longer than it looks, but it comes up suddenly behind the trees. Don't flare early. You'll be just fine."
But Sobelev himself was unprepared for the sight of the airfield.
Fuel fires raged, and black smoke rose thickly against the gray sky. Vehicles with warning lights ran along the apron, and planes lifted through what appeared to be great hoops of fire. From several kilometers out, the litter Osean air raids had left behind challenged the pilot's confidence.
"Flight Leader, this is Control. I have you visual." "I'm rolling out. My wingman's coming in first." "Roger. Do you need assistance on the ground?"
"Negative. Not unless we bugger it up."
"Your runway."
The lieutenant, Sobelev's wingman, took his aircraft in cleanly. Sobelev remained surprised that they had made it this far, that they were still alive. For at least one more mission. He came around and followed his wingman in, bouncing on the runway.
"Talk to me, Control. Where am I going?" "Proceed onto taxiway four. Move out. Hard hangars, crescent B."
"Numbers?"
"Just take the first open bay. This is war, my distinguished Comrade Aviator."
Sobelev guided his plane through the trailing smoke and the wreckage of planes that had been caught on the ground. It struck him that all of this was an incredible waste, but now that he was on the ground, he realized that the focus of his life was to get to a latrine.

Not that I mean to tell you how to do yours , but that's how I would handle those scenes, personally..

>>
>>187082587
I'd just like to add that runways are numbered according to the heading they have, so runway 02 is on heading 020. If there is more than one, paralell, you would go with Left and Right so 02 Left for example. Or, if they are different in composition you could have 02 grass and 02 concrete and so on

Nuclear proliferation doesn't exist the same way it does here which allows the setting to have its vast open conflicts. Presumably the money that could be spent on nuclear weapons was spent elsewhere with such exotic devices such as AI appearing in the late 90s. Hey Nemo, you around?

If you're willing to wait I could try shading it for the delivery (and be the first shaded delivery I do). The patience is appeciated, having to figure by myself how to make stuff work and what sort of result I want is taking me a lot of time.
Agreeing to this implies that you agree at me messing up shading big time a couple times before achieving something passable and delivering.

AC3 is garbage no matter which version you play, I'd say the western version is better since it's shorter so you don;t have to suffer the garbage controls as long and it removes the cringy story

I don't get why you guys hold 3'a story in such high regard, it's a shitty GiTS ripoff
>b-but they got the animators who made GiTS
doesn't exist the fact that the story is a shitty GiTS, the only unique thing it does is the twist that the whole thing is a simulation and the motivation behind it
>>
>>187106672
>3's story
It's not great. But I like the game because it tried to be different than the rest of them, and I appreciate the attempt to branch out and do something cool with a divergent story. It felt almost like an RPG.

For the same reason, I sorta appreciate ACAH. I still mostly despise it because it's bad, but I like that PA still tries new things on occasion.

How come I can't find any pictures of hard point mounted rocket boosters for RATO?
It makes sense to me to mount RATO boosters on pylons so you can jettison them after take-off.
Hard points can already hold onto heavy fuel pods at high Gs so they should be able to handle a rocket pushing the plane during take-off.

I think the 'Dang it' comes from the urgency of the moment, same as you'd say that if you were about to dodge something, not carefully and logically articulate the feeling of 'OH MAN I REALLY HOPE THIS DOESN'T HIT ME. I AM NOW GOING TO EXECUTE AN EVASIVE MANEUVER, WHICH, IF SUCCESSFUL, WILL RESULT IN THE AVOIDANCE OF DAMAGE AND CASUALTY.'

If anything it's a show of PJ's reflexes, being able to completely drop the convo about his GF and attempt to dodge the laser.

PJ feels pretty autistic, after just witnessing a firebombing from his own side, and 7 nuclear detonations, he still acts like a schoolboy, going on about polo and all
Grimm is pretty autistic in the "y-you too" sense. I wish I could put Edge in both categories, but she seems more Mary Sue-y than straight autistic.
>>187154095
Even so, he doesn't seem that caring about the detonation of the 7 nukes as everyone else. While AWACs is in panic and Pixy is having a mid-flight crisis, PJ just goes "What happened? Am I okay?" And the next day he's still unshaken enough to blab about his personal life to you.

Tit sleeves are really impractical and in fact not possible, real skintight suits (mechanical counterpressure suits) wouldn't show them. A wetsuit look is as close as we can get. And then layers of insulation and the like would make it a tad bulkier.
That said I really like fortified suits. They aren't realistic and tend to feel too high-tech for the period but the designs are aesthetically pleasing.

I can never take this series seriously. I see webms like yours, and then like this.

It's a mod, but it still left an impression on me that the series is a joke. Convince me otherwise. I need more games to buy for my PS4 other than ace combat 7.

When I was a kid, me and my friends used to have huge micro machine armies, and we'd play little wargames with them at lunchbreak at school.

Mostly just setting them up in cool dioramas and working out which side would win.

I somehow managed to get a bunch of phantoms, so I always had them set up 'ready to launch' off to the side, or we'd all just swoop them around making pew pew noises.
We were the coolest kids in the class, obviously

Either way, much as I much prefer the F-15 and the Tornado, I've always had a soft spot for the f4 ever since.

If you've got an idea for a thread theme you want to see, then reply to this post with the picture, song and quote you would like. I'll do which ever one is the most popular. If there are no clear front runners then I'll just pick one.

Retarded requests will be ignored. You know who you are.
