/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Rimworld, Age of Decadence, VA-11 HALL-A, Subnautica, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Darkwood, Braid, Monolith, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, West Of Loathing, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago and /jrpg/ is welcome.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

For one, there's more combat options than default attack and reload.

Underrail is very much a combat game though. It's more linear too; you can't run straight to the Institute with the statue and rush DC. Fo2 did the whole RPG thing much better, but Underrail is mechanically the better game.

Hey /indie/, would you guys be interested in participating in the /vg/ League?
Basically, it’s a football tournament run is PES between teams representing different /vg/ generals. The teams are filled ideas representing the general and player models are changed to match.

The next /vg/L proper will only occur late November – December, but in a month, there will be official friendlies, which will be a good way to start the team.
We need 23 players to represent the general (just having character names is frowned upon, so memes, popular ideas etc.), as well as music (anthem, goal horn and some other stuff), a team logo and kits and hopefully someone with enough autism to help make player models (we can get people in the cup to help out if we don’t get anyone).

I’ve made a prototype roster to get started. My idea is to have 1 rep for each game that is commonly discussed here, plus some meta reps. Golds and Silvers are players with better stats than usual who are the team’s stars. The most important aspects of the general tend to be these players.

Nah. I don't go to NMA at all and never really did any serious modding beyond simple tweaks for personal use.

It's not like I'm sitting all day doing that, I'm just spending about 15-20 minutes daily to colorize 1-2 files out of 57. It will probably take 2 months to get done at this rate but there's no rush, doubt the expansion will come out this year anyways.

I haven't played for a while and after a break it's pretty hard to navigate even in already visited tunnels.
Also I was told that layout is completely logical. Not really, for example that climbable rubble in lower underrail caves leads to "Hecate Research Outpost", which is located in lower underrail too! Or those caves north of rail crossing, you expect to get back to railroad or concrete tunnels when going south-west, but you will be wandering in caves still.

That's completly logical. Caves are located under Lower Underrail. The cave entrances you find in Lower Underrail go down.

Hell, the 1st level of SGS is the entrance to Lower Underrail while the 9th level is the entrance to caves. That should give you a clue.

That's from wiki, right? It's incorrect, it's possible it was the case in the past. The wiki still has some holes in it.

It's also possible Hecate Outpost is located a bit higher than the part of Lower Underrail where you entered the caves. The world is not flat.

It's safe to assume caves are under Lower Underrail. There are some inconsistencies, especially in underpassages when compared to Lower Underrail, but It's not like you will suddenly appear on the other side of the map for no reason.

You can always use one of the player-made maps. I think the reason they were never implemented was because they are of little importance compared to other stuff that still needs to be done.

Truth is, setting aside personal preferences, Underrail just simply doesn't lend itself well to this kind of mapmaking. For navigational purposes the layout is mostly consistent and routes can be memorized. It doesn't mess with your sense of direction, it doesn't teleport you around, if you exit a map in one direction you will enter the next from there. But once you try to put the maps next to each other it becomes apparent that the scale of them doesn't match up and that there are some blind spots you don't really notice unless you specifically want to map things out. And it becomes worse when you realize that the scale of different levels doesn't even try to be consistent. Take Upper Underrail or DC for example, the general direction of connection points is perfect, but you can't rely on the scale. Start from above Core City and take one map south, one west, then one north, and you are suddenly somewhere above Rail Crossing. In DC the actual area between the elevators that in theory go to different ends of South Underrail are actually only separated by a handful of maps.

So for this reason the maps that are the easiest to understand are the ones that either piece together complete screenshots, or just work with simple sticks and boxes with notes. Neither of these would make for good in-game mapping, not auto nor player made with in-game tools.

Since I don't mess with EA shit I only started playing it recently, but it's on my watch list for years and read a lot about it. Right now, Story Mode only has 2 Chapters out of 6, the rest is coming in 2017/18.

Experienced fans were disappointed that it's more like a long-drawn tutorial for new players, and even the few NPCs you encounter with feel more of quest bots with fetch missions than real human beings.

When it comes to difficulty it's pretty varied, the road to the 1st town is surprisingly rough but it gets better from there due to the abundant supplies. Wolves got tweaked though, they can cause surprise.

Personally, I enjoyed every minute so far. Hinterland were quick with the patches but some issues took way too long to fix and a lot older players felt there were not enough innovation and new features.

I have 10 hours of work/free time book-ended with eating and lockdown in luxury cells. The eating and cell time takes care of all of their needs completely but during work/free time the workers wont take care of any of their needs. Whats the deal?

Also is there a way to have a yard for permanent lockdown? I isolate all prisoners with traits that circumvent danger/happiness levels like volatile and ex-law enforcement by tagging them as supermax and have them on permanent lockdown. I can take care of them entirely with luxury cells freedom. If I give them access to a supermax only yard they will still trigger volatile and kill eachother but they wont riot if their only furious rated need is freedom.

I did not play the game back then, but I don't think so. As far as I know it was never implemented, but the sprayer icon was made anyways.

Someone here suggested that maybe sprayers will be included in the expansion since Styg promised a buff for chemical pistols, but that's just a rumor.

Dusk is pretty good but playing it I realize that it's not enough to just be pretty good. It's gotta compete not just with the games its inspired by but also all the decades of user content, all the masterpiece Doom WADs and Quake and HL map packs. Because there's so much great mod stuff already out there even playing a nearly-perfect throwback like Dusk is just like "huh, not bad".

Is it? I'm a mild enthusiast and I'm getting bored a few levels in. The novelty of playing an accurate throwback wore off pretty quick. The level designs, weapons, enemies, are all good but not great, not on the level of quality I can find in the older games. And it's way, way too easy for an enthusiast. So why bother?

I want it to be better, either through better level designs and challenge, or some unique character or atmosphere I can't get anywhere else. Not giving up on it yet though.

Leveling up is supposed to make the character progress and grow in power, not be forced to make shitty trade-offs. Trade-offs should be purely optional choices.

It has nothing to do with difficulty, shit like this kills the incentive to level up. You know you really fucked up when the player has a reason to avoid leveling up.

Why would I want to put myself at a noticeable disadvantage when the benefit is underwhelming at best?

That's why this system sucks, it discourages leveling up. I could save so much time and gasoline by not having to worry about shadows and use all those hallucinogens to heal health/stamina instead.

The thing is, leveling up is fun. As I said, it's not a matter of difficulty, it's a matter of making one of the most satisfying mechanics in video games into something the player might want to avoid altogether.
