They are undoubtedly the best weapons in the game. Any kind of trade off you have with a Saw is counteracted by their insane damage ratios, speeds, unmatched trades, tiny punishing frames and deceptively large range. There is no reason to use any other weapon if your intention is to win; saws outclass every other weapon in the game.

Except that it's stale as fuck, which comes in the nature of having the best weapon in the game be a fucking hacky slashy swing stick which has the amazing unique tricked form of just doubling it's range and doing extra damage for one hit, which can be spammed ad nauseum.

Saif is a Saw with less damage, less range, worse ratios, but has a lunge move which punishes defensive play, but can be easily parried or beaten with aggression or, you guessed it, a Saw. Babies love to hate the Saif because it doesn't give them breathing room and interrupts their safe space, but ask anyone who's actually used it; it's not nearly as amazing as the thread sucks it off for.

It's pretty ridonkulous when you consider it.

Saw Spear has, what 160 base damage? 170? Most of it's attacks have positive modifiers, and if you're attacking beasts there's a 20% bonus. So on an L1 you take that 160 damage and make it 250.

Meanwhile something like a Kirkhammer, with it's 210 base damage, is slower, more stamina-hevy, and if you're using the sword, take that base damage and cut it to 147, with no serration bonus or redeeming modifiers.

Saws are totally busted, which is cool from a difficulty select for PvE mentality, but pretty retarded otherwise. 170/180 fast as shit weapons is not far-enough removed from 200-210 slow as shit weapons. But that's always the problem with From games.

I really thought on my first playthrough that the person watching you as you get into the carriage was going to be relevant somehow. Like you get to Cainhurst and it's still has at least some semblance of what it was but then it turns out you were followed and shit happens. Or something, idk.

Cainhurst just feels like the definition of wasted potential. Why is the entire fucking castle apart from like 4 rooms lined with bookshelves?

Is there a reliable place to farm a couple of loran bastards? Or do I need to just keep grinding root chalices

I thought Bloodborne did this well actually. Yharnam is still full of civilians when you first arrive and there's this vague pretense that it's not as bad as it seems and the city might still be functional. Then it gradually gets worse and worse as you progress through the game.

Cainhurst definitely was wasted potential though. Good level design but it was filled with fucking nothing.

I wouldn't know really tbqh, I usually run base End for most of my builds with at least one Anti. I'd say 125 is enough for everything unless you're trying to string in more BB L2s which consume tons of stamina if you're getting more than 3 in.

It's hard to say. Most of the weapons carry pretty well in one way or another, and you can write them off pretty succinctly ("just dashR1", "just force trades", etc.).

The weapons I've had the hardest time killing people with are probably Beast Claws, HMLS, (tricked)LHB, (tricked Kirkhammer), Beast Cutter, and, oddly I guess, the Rakuyo, in about that order. I can't think of any others I've had a particularly hard time with.

If you want Beast Roar and other Tools/Weapons, Cruel Fate: 40+/12+/50/13+/5/15 should be the main focus. Dump into Vit and Str, maybe some End first. Any Str weapon will do good, Saws are ez mode. Start with Violent Past if you're not getting Arc for Tools
