Be honest, /wtc/, do you think this game is overrated? I've finished the main game and I just can't see how it's "one of the best games ever made" like some people put it.

My main problem is the gameplay in general, the combat is not the best, and I don't like the controls and the movement. And there are annoying details like Roach stopping sometimes when you're riding fast, trying to turn around and interact with sometimes that's next to you (because of the weird movement), etc. You get used to this, but I still don't like it.

Also, the story is good, the world is big and complex, there's a lot of interesting stuff, like characters, monsters, and the lore in general, etc, but I don't know, it's not like it's best written game ever, sometimes the plot is predictable, and it's annoying how a huge part of the game is about finding someone (that being, Yen, Ciri, Dudu, Dandelion, etc), I feel the story improved a lot when I finally found Ciri.

But don't get wrong, this game is obviously pretty good and I would be a contrarian if I said otherwise, the world is really big and interesting, even when you're doing that repetitive gameplay of looking for something with your witcher senses and then following tracks, you're interested in either the story or what will the monster you fight will be, I like learning what caused the monster to be there, how it behaves, etc. There so much stuff going on besides the main story, there's the war, the racial tension, etc.

I also like the complexity of the mechanics, things like crafting and alchemy mostly, it's cool that you can prepare for a fight looking for the right oil, potions, bombs, etc for the creature.

Anyway, I think the game is pretty good, but it's overrated, any of you feel the same? Maybe there are details that make this good a masterpiece that I'm not valuing too much, I don't know, I wanna hear honest opinions and not just circlejerk.

The characters, atmosphere, attention to details, music, world and character design...are all great, but for me TW is more than the sum of its parts. It manages to suck me in like no other game ever did, to make me feel immersed and like a part of the world. As an experience, it was fantastic, it made me smile, cry, made me feel things, I never enjoyed a video game in my life the way I enjoy TW games. I don't consider it overrated one bit.

I started on... Friday? I think 10 hours, just for the sea parts. The boat is fucking slow, getting in and out of it is a pain, if you're on death march you will two shot not one shot most enemies and some spots have a ton of shit and enemies. And then you have to go back and forth to sell after awhile. Honestly I recommend just starting it, the sooner you do the sooner the nightmare will end.

decided to give witcher a try. It feels clunky and cumbersome, but not bad.

I'm currently in Chapter 2 of the first game, and I have to admit it's somewhat different than I was expecting. I get that it's not about making the 'right' choice or the 'wrong' choice, but all the choices I've made thus far feel unsatisfying. It's definitely different than the games I've played before.
