Someone explain this to me. I started ranked and everything was going really well and all until I started to get matched against some xiaou and hwoarang. They are both winning every single match it seems as their history says they wont every ranked so far but this is literally kyu/beginner rank. Its unreal, I dont think Im some pro but Im already far above some average button masher and I could barely get any hits on either of them aside form some lucky 1 or 2´s. They sidestepped literally fucking everything. Not to mention hwo was hitting me with his launcher at maximum range, like the very edge of the range and could just string for 80% of hp. What the fuck? Promos ruined because of these two fucks

having no range is only a problem at range 2 and 0. having bad block punishers overall is only bad because he cannot launcher certain moves, which means the immediate reward is not as great, but really good tekken players are great at taking small advantages and running with them, so getting a non-launch punish at -15 is not the end of the world. it's the same reason why him getting pretty much all damage from counter hits isn't so bad either: you take the small advantages from pokes and run with it.

I know almost all of my characters moves , but I've come to realize it doesn't even matter because I don't know when to use them. I've been beaten by someone using like only 3 or 4 different moves. I just consistently make the wrong decision, and somehow, my opponents always seem to know what I'm doing.

On the defensive, for example, if I'm knocked down and I 3+4, they back up just enough to grab me as soon as I land. If I roll they do some tracking move etc.

On the offensive, I try to do my fastest strings but they always get blocked, even when I wait until after their string is done to counter attack. If I try to hang back and whiff punish I just end up missing.

I'm really just starting to think I'll never get this game I've been hovering around brawler getting promoted/demoted since like June. It only took a few weeks to get to where I am right now.

Alright, I'll stop shitposting and be helpful. The thing you need right now to help your game is a small decision making flowchart that consists of your key moves and movement. If I'm reading correctly you even said this is your problem.

Basically to figure out how to use your moves take 1 move, figure out a situation you might end up with your move, think of your opponent's possible options after that situation, and find other moves to cover that situation.

For example I play Gigas. A common situation is that I land a d/b+2 which is a +3 on hit low. My opponent's options (generally speaking anyway) are to stand block/backdash, sidestep, duck, or attack (overly simplified but you get the point).

If they sidestep left or right I can follow up with 3 or 4 respectively to track those sides. They also hit mid so they cover the duck. If they block/backdash I can go for another d/b+2 or attempt a throw mixup. If they attack I can go for the counter hit mid d/f+3,12 to get that launch combo.

There ya go simple flowchart. Now do that for all of your characters. Also chances are you aren't playing a shit character like Gigass so you can actually sidestep or backdash in such a situation to punish attacks.

When you've got a basic series of decisions for a situation you can expand. Like maybe I'll use f+1+2 to counter hit fish instead of d/f+3,12 because it isn't launch punishable and still does good damage. However it is a high. Or "I know for a fact he will sidestep or duck so I will use my mid homing launcher to cover both options"

If you're serious you will do this for almost every situation. Like "I made him block a d/f+1 what can he do and what can I do" or "I am waiting around range 2 what can he do and what can I do", etc.

Also when choosing your moves, weigh in risk/reward and how many options they cover. For example doing a b+2 after a d/b+4 with Kazumi is often a good idea because it beats crouch block and sidestep/walk in both directions and is safe on block. d/f+1 after d/b+4 is also a good idea because it is safe on block (-3 even which allows you to continue pressure), beats attacks, and beats crouch block.

When you are learning your opponent stick to the safer options (quick mid pokes, backdash, sidestep guard, single jabs) and see what they do in said situations. When you have sick reads go for your hopkicks and your homing launchers and your powercrush launchers and what have you.

you have to mix 1,2,3 with 1,2,4, because if they block it, you push them back, and if they try to crouch and hit you, you can anticipate that and hit them with 3
also use 2,1 second hit is mid and has good tracking,
4, tracks opponents, and you can d+2 after it counter hits,
b+2,1, which has great range, and starts with mid. stay alert as it makes you stay too close to your opponent after you hit them

b+4 has good range, if they are coming towards you running,

Not really, as far as clean hits go, its the same case with ex rekka. However, jabs will always confirm into ex rekka, and you only lose 3-5 damage (3 for standing jab, 5 for crouching) choosing to do jab rekka instead of d+3 ex rekka. D+3 into DP2 is 35 damage, which the DP being able to come out as a fireball instead accidentally, while d+3 ex rekka is 40 damage and you can't mess up, while standing jab ex rekka is 37. If you're desparate for easy damage or want to finish off someone, keep these in mind if you have meter.

The combo I gave you to use is probably still good to use on them though. Off EX dive kick do MG+1, d/f+1, 1, MG+1, 1, MG+1,2,1+2. You can remove the MG+1, 1 part if you want to do some wall carry off it on smaller characters to follow up at the wall I guess.

Tried your combo on Eliza. Works semi decently. But the best EX dive kick combo is definitely FFF+3, d+3 DP1, B+4 DP2. Higher damage with the same wall carry. Carries to the wall at the half way point of the stage and then gives you the dive kick wall splat combo for 87 damage.

Nah, you're definitely not bad. For smaller / female characters its extremely difficult to do consistently. Look at me fail for 30 seconds straight. When I finally do get it, you can see the reward for executing it so. I also show Heihachi, who was 100 times easier to land it on. I did it on him 8 times in a row easily. His hitbox is also bigger where it allows you to do to a B+4 after the WR+3, unlike Eliza where you must do a d+3 after a WR+3. For smaller characters, its probably a lot better to just do the b+1, 2, 4 combo to guarantee damage.

As a Paul main, I was getting sick of all the 'Paul is for brainlets' posts so I picked up Heihachi and guess what, I made it to Destroyer which is even further in ranks than my main (Vanquisher). Heihachi's pressure is so damn good, you can be in your opponents face constantly. The hellsweep mixups eats lower ranks alive. The only difficult thing about him is consistently landing ewgf whiff punishes, also having to learn dash ewgfs was not that easy because I had to get the qcf motion out of my system.

Paul might have easier execution but he's overall harder to play in my opinion. Everyone knows the match-up, his moves are slow and telegraphed. One wrong demoman can cost you the match. You need to be on point with your whiff punishes and reads. Heihachi on the other hand is just an offense monster, d/f 2 alone is such a ridiculously good move. Your opponent doesn't know what to except, it's just mixup-city.

Haven't played tekken for 10 days. I think in 4 or so more I'll be able to play again.

I mostly used 1, b+2 pressure into df1/dickjab or db2. db2 into wr2 for frame advantage and resetting the pressure situation. On opponents that whiffed a lot I used a lot of ewgfs. On people who refused to block low I hellsweeped them all day. Also that firestarter command grab is insanely good.

Yeah. Another thing, if you're doing your EX combo instead of the iWR3, I think after the b2+3, its better to do a B+4. You lose 3 damage in place for more wall carry and consistency, as a lot of times doing b+1, 2, 4 would have the 4 whiff. Additionally, if you do it in the middle of the stage / default position, the b+4 will result in a wall splat in which you can do the wall splat combo for high damage again.

Hopkick is your friend at lower ranks. There's no drawbacks to it Pre-Yellow. It stops shithead Bryans and King players in their tracks most of the time and is useful against most of the cast the rest of the time. Particularly if your character has a two part hopkick. When you hopkick at low ranks one of 3 outcomes is likely: 1 - They absolutely eat it for full combo, 2 - They get an awkward jab string bootleg combo for low damage, 3 - You whiff and they don't punish you for it, and if you're feeling lucky you get a chance to hopkick again and they will surely run into it trying to press buttons.

As far as Mishimas go, he doesn't even have to play like a Mishima to be effective he has so many tools in his kit. So tell me how he's hard outside of consistent electrics and movement. His combos aren't even fucking hard either unless
