The fonts aren't really the problem. The real problem is the way the stroke is rendered, it has rounded edges which just make it look off, you generally want clean lines and stark contrast to get that propaganda look. Even the ones in picrel aren't great, cause the fonts are pretty thin and not as readable as they should be.

I actually don't mind her, she's just boring. Probably the most boring of XCOM's named characters. Vahlen and Central are loved for obvious reasons, Old Shen had some genuinely interesting comments regarding the aliens and the philosophies behind their technology, and Firaxis seem to be going all-out and turning Tygan into a burger-obsessed meme god.

Lily's just sort of...there. I don't find her obnoxious but she isn't interesting or funny either.

Looking at the in-depth soldier look, and the stream we had yesterday, Reaper certainly seems like the most OP by far

Templar looks like a risk-reward situation. If you fuck up a streak, it's straight out to "oh fuck" town. On the other hand, if you're max focus, you can rapidly rape everyone on the opposite side and do some serious shenanigans like pulling enemies on the other side of the field out of cover and close

Skirmisher is complicated. Honestly some of their abilities like getting buffs when shot at sounds like clutch central. Pulling enemies out of cover is priceless, though

I think it's gonna be hard to justify not bringing every faction soldier available, as long as they're not tired or wounded

But also that she is pretty shallow. She never really resolves her implied distrust of tygan or people living under advent. Her relationship with the gremlin is poorly conveyed.

She just seems kind of, there. Basically her back story is that she is just a sack they stuffed she's brain in, that's all she is. Even with with the lost tower mission she came off as whiney and unappealing.

No, the story mission hasn't changed. The integration gets rid of the story missions and makes it like you disabled the DLC story mission and puts the Rulers guarding alien facilities randomly. Instead of putting them on every mission. Sparks get nothing and just shoved on the Proving Ground like if you had disabled the story mission.

I'd say it's probably the worst way they could have handled it and I'm going to play with story missions on, since I like them a lot.

Well, it's once per mission. You have to have an enemy take an action in their line of sight and you can do any action. If you have any actions that are free actions, these don't count. So you can grapple and then shoot or whatever.

It can be amazing, but it really requires you to throw Mox in the middle of a bunch of shit. If you don't, he will sit back and miss shots because his accuracy at range sucks with the Bullpup.

Bullpups are basically shotguns with a different firing animation, and Skirmishers thus need to be used at appropriate ranges. I keep seeing Youtubers and Streamers trying to use Mox like a regular soldier and whining about him not being able to hit shit, and just don't understand how they haven't realised he needs to be played much further forwards.

It's because they are scared about him getting flanked and killed, which I don't really blame them for thinking that, as I've seen it happen. But as long as he has the appropriate abilities, then he's fine. Retribution for that sweet ripjack reaction attack when things move near him and since they fixed how Bladestorm reactions work in that it isn't just when things move into your range, but also out of it, then you can usually hit quite a lot. It also means that Mox will take two slashes with the Ripjack, one for Justice or Wrath and another for Retribution. His Ionic Ripjack apparently has a greater stun chance then the arc blade and I have seen him stun pretty much anything with it, even Codex, completely preventing their split.

He's an amazing unit that no one is using to his full potential. His command build is pretty strong though, being able to direct others using his action points is crazy.

The problem is that most of the time you will get put on missions with a timer and trying to avoid combat just to watch the Lost pound on the Aliens isn't going to do you any favors. As for Interrupt and Waylay. They aren't as useful as I thought they would be. While it does mean that you can choose who to shoot when someone activates your overwatch, you no longer get to act when someone is out of cover. It is only after they complete their run. It is nice if you are in the thick of things though, since it means you can take a flank shot at someone that tries to move in for a flank. So I imagine it would go something like this if you didn't have Battle Lord.

Nah, you can completely change them if you want. Even aside from that, if you don't enable the story stuff, then you get a random Reaper or Skirmisher when you first contact their factions and you don't get one for free as a part of the story stuff.

Reaper is also not going to be in your squad all the time because of the new fatigue mechanic and she's not as strong as Rangers are damage wise anyway. So Phantom Rangers are still going to be really good.

It's not hard. It's systems are just annoying and lack cohesion. The entire haven mechanic just isn't fun and liberating every single region doesn't just slow the game down to a crawl, it's just tedious. If the game was more evenly split between the Strat and Tac layer, then the increase in time would be fine. But the game was just never designed for it and I can't see why people like it.

The thing that always made LW stand out for me was the improvements to the tactical layer instead. The classes, the unshackled AI. If you could just cut out the bullshit strat stuff, then it would be a much better mod. Which is why I'm pissed the class tree and alien mod will never get updated again and technicals are forever shackled to the rest of the shit LW does.

I've also grown to resent it because people feel that it's the ONLY way to play the game and if you don't play it, then you are just a big baby that needs to Git Gud. There are people right now, BEGGING Pavonis to make sure it's updated for WotC, or else they won't get the expansion. I'd call that pathetic.

The game does try to counter your moves but not directly. It will reinforce regions you're operating in, which is where you get troop columns, ufos, supply raids etc.

The rebels on intel are coded to search for missions and each mission type has a value that determines how likely it is to be detected. So there is some RNG but I never found it to be a problem in 5 campaigns. The 0 days thing is just bad luck, not bad play.

Eh, I don't really care about mods these days. I've stopped playing the game until expansion hits since I burnt out of the game months ago and I don't want it to happen again so soon to release.

I'm sure there will be many strat layer mods working off of the new systems incorporated which will work even better. Heck, maybe if LW does update, they can work in Covert Actions to actually give something to work towards in the Strat layer. Haven's need to be more then just a glorified mission spewer and money machine. They should have an impact in the kinds of covert actions that can spawn, which would give you more and better rewards. The problem is that Lump doesn't want you to have any kind of way to snowball, that the experience of tension should be consistant all the way through and i think he does it rather poorly.

I still find it funny how badly they fucked that aspect up in X2. They even tell you to use fire because it will panic chrysalids, but the panic chance of the flamethrowers was set to 0. Setting them on fire was still nice because it disables their melee attack, but talk about false advertising. At least my Sharpshooter always made those missions a cake walk since she could face off and apply burning to every one of those fuckers. I seriously hope they fixed that, at the very least I know they gave Crysalids a fire vulnerability now, so they take 3 increased damage from all fire. Time to take Hellfire projectors on every retaliation and mission with the Lost.

You also see Sectoids use their gauntlet when they use their psionic powers in almost the exact same way as Xcom operatives and Avatars. But you are right, those can be considered speculation, but this is fact: Humans are the only ones who can match the Elders's psionic powers, the Avatars are planned to be the Elders's new host bodies because we are the only ones that can handle their psionic dongs, and their Avatars use psionic amplifiers.

tl;dr: There is no evidence that you need psionic amplifiers to use psionic powers, all we know is that they make psionic powers stronger. But you can. You just say you can't have it both ways when there is zero reason you can't. Humans and elderss are "similar" enough to be comparable in the psi department, they are far from the same, just like sectoids and elders.
Furthermore, psi amps are taken from the original X-COM games, in which none of the aliens used a psi-amp, and I believe it's pretty clear that the psi-amp exists as a callback to the og games, as well as a game mechanic so that we can have psi equipment to upgrade.

It does get pretty bad. Those Sectopods are 35 HP, vanilla X2's Sectopods have 38 HP and 4 armor AND they have three actions. LW2 decides to go even further beyond and has 100 HP sectopods. The only reason they decided it needed to be that high is because player damage is out of control for the most part. I think though that what is needed isn't more HP, it's just more enemies, but I guess they were worried about processing power and how the game handled all of them and the fact that most maps weren't big enough for a shit ton of enemies. WotC actually makes this problem worse. The tunnels are ultra cramped in some maps, wouldn't be able to turn the corner without running into 9 enemies in vanilla.

Playing EW Impossible for the first time with 1 save per mission as a warm up for a I/I run.

Everything is going great so far. I started in Africa to have more room to play with money because the base planning is where I have the hardest time. Anyway, Russia had a high panic and then a request popped up for a satellite there for $200 which was pretty lucrative. It put me in a position to launch 6 satellites just before the second council. In the last two days before the council the satellites stopped moving up the list and the council came up with no satellites. I didn't understand what happened because I gave myself an extra day to make sure I did the delay right. I reloaded and then the satellites completed properly.

Why did this happen? I could have recovered, I think, even though I invested extremely heavily in satellites but I'm not sure I would want to continue an ironman run where a massive satellite deployment was delayed for no reason.

imagine this is why you don't see any units like in EU: They were all also made into soup to make nonAdvent units. Tygan explains this in a scene that they are almost entirely human material, just with parts they include to produce other units, hence snakes with tits and mutons being smaller.

Of course this is all sort of a by product to produce Avatars. The gold soup.

Help me understand EU tactics.

I get that flanking negates cover dramatically increasing hit chance and can even confer a large crit chance but most maps I see are so small that there is no reliable way to herd them into cover against a scout but flanked by the rest of your squad. Flanking after triggering would take at least two turns in favorable conditions and you may end up triggering more groups by swinging so far to the side and then you have a split group not to mention a free round of fire against you. To me it always seems better to remove cover with grenades and rockets or just outright kill the xrays with the explosives.

I know the game yells at you about not as many materials but you can literally go through the whole game blowing up ships instead of using EMP's and blowing up any clustered xrays and still have a surplus of materials at any given time, completely ignoring the added benefits of using the arc thrower instead of killing.

The other confusing part is that ghost armor and mimetic skin are amazing for herding but you can do more effective full ambushes or sniper chain kills with mimetic skin plus you will be drowning in material at that point. Ghost is a little closer to mid game but still far enough that ending an encounter before the xrays can fire is easy.

I feel like the difficulty curve is the exact inverse of a normal game and when compensating for that in the early game I can't see why I would want to spend 2 or more turns trying to flank while under fire when heavies, mechs and grenades completely mitigate the early game threats at an insignificant cost of slightly less materials.

The tedium of optimal play led me to play LW1 with a heavy focus on shotgun assaults. It was way more fun, and as it turns out, the AI in LW can be easier to manipulate because it's more inclined to protect itself. Being able to go full CHAREG!!1 and get away with it was nice.

They did. The old GTS upgrades are now Resistance Orders. There are new GTS upgrades to replace them, as well as a whole raft of additional Resistance Orders. You can't get everything now, but you've got a much wider scope of things to pick from, and can swap in and out each month as needed.

All i can say is that i watch him because he isn't annoying and because he isn't perfect. That said, i wouldn't say i "follow" him or anything, just that when i feel like watching someone play Xcom while i do something i go look for his videos.
