The brave dash has a GP on the startup.
Just enter brave mode and time the dash properly into the attacks that you want to counter.

id say make a set with awaken on it since literally every sns in 3u has element or status on it with awaken, and it will be a good boost on some weapons.
lucent is really good and awaken makes it slightly better with poison if you want to use it on like, duramboros.
stygian and brachy are always good as well.
mostly though sns strength is in making one of every element and theres some good options for each one.

So, I'm playing Generations and I feel I never really gave SwitchAxe a real chance and now I want to learn the weapon.
How much has it changed since 4U? The guide in the OP is about 4U and I'm mostly curious if Evade Extender is still considered the first skill I need to get for a good SwitchAxe set.

Also, is there a reason to pick Guild over Striker?
Based on the Hunter's notes it seems like they have the same combos. Does Striker lose something not mentioned in that list? To compensate for the fact that it gets 3 Hunter Arts?

All the weapons have negative affinity and they don't have the raw or the sharpness to justify it.
The armor sets have ONE (1) useful ability that you could easily gem in on basically any other set, and one negative ability that you have to gem out.

yes, every weapon is viable at a non-competitive level. you wont likely be playing as well as TAs nor have sets as good as they have so your hunt times are going to be average overall, especially if you play online.
GL is one of (if not the) weakest weapons, but its not unplayable by any means. imo it shines greatest in 3U since its a slower paced game, has no slopes or ledges, it has a good selection of craftable weapons, and because lance and GL are naturally stronger underwater.

My biggest concern with MHW is that the weapon effects and sounds are a bit too toned down, which kind of points to the game having less wacky monster hunter vibes to it than the previous games, which is something that I'll miss. Everything else, I'm willing to give a chance to. I think the worst thing you can do with a game like World, that takes so many risks in changing things up (after nearly 15 years, one might add), is to look at the fact that you can roll out of GS charge or don't have to flex after a potion and say OH IT'S RUINED IT'S BROKEN GG NO RE

Linear progression is needed otherwise there's no reason to bother with the endgame, but MH handles it very poorly.
Ideally, the endgame monsters should give the best gear in the game, but without putting all of the best endgame gear on just one monster. Have different weapons benefit more from different stats, too. Then validate the existence of the slightly worse weapons from tiers before the endgame by making the endgame hunts extremely difficult if you don't already have really solid gear from the just before endgame tier. So the MMO approach. MH just happens to let you blitz your way to endgame with trash entry level gear and pretty much skip everything from beginning to end, only ever doing key quests.

I think that the concept of endgame monster hunter is redundant. The games just aren't built for ENDLESS GAMEPLAY in the same ways that MMOs are. Ideally MonHun should give people some very tough challenges for GUARANTEED endgame sets, and then that's it.

Guild Quests were the fucking WORST and grinding the same quest over and over again to get some marginably better items, while being purely dependent on RNG, is just not fun, and the alternative is a very long term dedication requirement from the monhun team to ensure that people keep getting fresh, challenging endgame scenarios.

Monster Hunter is more about being better and better at what you do, and broadening your skillset, rather than gear growth.

It was fairly good in 4U. There were a handful of really top-tier offensive skills, but then the rest of the skills on your set would vary from weapon to weapon. There was a wide breadth of weapon variation as well. Gen is similar to Tri in that not only is it only a HR game, but there's a single monster whose weapons are just overstatted compared to everything else (Alatron and Hellblade).
