Be aware, Thargs are currently grabbing ships out of witchspace and giving out complementary rectal probings, it is advised you shoot the fuck out of them whenever possible, or just go with it if that's your thing, I ain't tellin you how to live. Apparently the Ayylmaos are rumbling again, inquire within if this means goddamned thing or if its just Braben trying to scare up some more money.

If they have all that functioning at Gamescom and still don't have a 3.0 release, I'm getting my money back. They can make all the cutscenes and prerenders with someone else's money if they aren't going to deliver anything playable. Fuck this open development lie.
>>
>>186043887
Bleh doesn't say October, I for one think they'll (((delay))) 3.0 for late December to the last minute where they're closing up shop for their fat winter vacation.
I also believe that even THEN after a WHOLE YEAR of (((delays))) 3.0 will still be a buggy mess which won't see any actual fixes for 6 months MINIMUM.
Then again Imma be busy in that time period so I guess I'll 'manage' but not sure if the project as a whole will.

Yeah and they have a team of like, what, less than 20 people. At least they are steadily progressing to catch up with all the talk they accidentally spilled out. This is actually testament to the fact they were forced to release the game before it was ready. But what does Chris do? Nothing but telling more lies.
>>
>>186058028
Yea I'm getting into it it's pretty chill. Not a fan of how your pitch and YAW can get stuck though. You need to turn the opposite direction to slow it down instead of just cantering.

Also once I get my hyperspace stuff ready to go can I just skip the campaign and do missions/fighting/exploration etc?
>>
>>186052296
Happened at Citizencon when they announced no SQ42 was quite audible in the videos.
>>
>>186058801
I don't get why companies like Hello and Zero Gravity can show steady progress and actually get features in their games while CIG has more resources than both of them combined and still can't get a bare featured base model of the game they want to make out.

>yet.
and fuck no with space sim general. We've been over this again and again, two games shits up a thread enough, three makes it unreadable for any coherent of meaningful discussion/question or whatever. Multigame threads are just circle jerks of in jokes, rivalry and memes.

E:D is a dead game, NMS is a Stillborn game, neither will ever be anything. SC will eventually be a game, it's still in its dev cycle, E:D and NMS are through theirs and will never be anything more than what they are.

Reminder that No Man's Sky have minimalist gameplay, no physic engine, no depth at all over its 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 planets with nonsensical random generation, to the point that any shitty fetch quest count as an improvement.

>>186059825
>Zero Gravity
HELLION aren't building the foundation for enormous destructible spaceship battle between 64+ players simultaneously, they won't have planets, fauna/flora/atmosphere, enormous cities, ground vehicle, thousand of NPC (one of the most difficult things to program), a large scale economy, spaceships for several distinct gameplay like racing or hacking, they won't have 5 alien species and care much less about animation, mocap or fidelity.

Making regular demos slow down development and indy game only get away with it because their entire game require less features to work together than SC do for a mining ship. The smaller fanbase is amazed when HELLION can publish a 90s tier gameplay in a creative way.
But CIG have to deals with thousands of retards who don't know how much work is needed for them to facesit on another player.

>I don't get why companies
Now I hope you do and avoid criticizing large companies for putting exponentially more work into their product than smaller companies.

I can tell you haven't played it recently because the patches have really elevated the game. There's all kinds of content now and it isn't easy to get bored.

I mean if people can continue to play ED they can play NMS. At least NMS isn't dull as watching paint dry from an art standpoint.

This is not the game everyone was memeing about. It took me 20 minutes to get off the starting planet which was a heat hazard, and almost died on the next planet which was radiation. I'm also naming my planets after neighborhood streets. It may not be super deep, but it has way more to offer than SC will for 2 more years. Either enjoy what is basically a new game, or keep looking at your schedule for reassurance.

I don't consider highly of E:D either. So my point still stand. ED have nothing to do on planet, and from playtester I trust, he like the game. But myself I'm only seeing very basic grind/craft.
It elevated a lot because it started very low.

Perhaps NMS could become amazing if the power of its procedural generation was used within a multi-feature gameplay. They have modular building, biological analysis, resources collection, vehicles, terraforming...
I'm not the only one thinking they can have you terraform an entire planet, create its fauna and flora. Taking it where SPORE was supposed to end up.
But it will take a lot of balance work, at best, maybe they needed the money to do that, but until then SC is definitively doing gameplay before proc gen content

>>186065716
>Either enjoy what is basically a new game, or keep looking at your schedule for reassurance.
You are entitled to your taste no matter what they are.
But it is stupid to believe all game are equal in scale and development effort. Little details can take a fucking lot of work.

btw, I'm looking forward SC dealing with environmental hazard even more. Dealing with oxygen is one things, adding suit fuel and dealing with stamina will up the ante. And thankfully they abandoned moving around by grabbing handles.

The turning point was them showing that they are developing the multiplayer still. That was the reason I didn't buy it at launch. It isn't fully developed, and I wouldn't pay full price for it, but you're fucking retarded if you think $23 is too much for what you do get.
>>186092306
They didn't have to do any of this. Hello could have just moved on. SC has just been stalled for long enough that other companies are closing the gap, and actually playable today with full features. You are missing the point. By buying NMS you are just supporting shitty business practices that are like a tumor to the gaming industry. Fuck NMS, fuck the studio behind it and fuck anyone who supports that steaming pile of shit game.
>>
>>186094007
>shitty business practices that are like a tumor to the gaming industry.
Like KS games that continue to sell jpegs without delivering a game, only they are going to make you think the game is about to be released until the sale is over, then delay the patch by months. Shitty practices like that?
If you know an actually virtuous company to do business with, post them. Neither Hello or CIG is even close to being saints, but that shit was $23.
SC expects us to reserve judgment until it is released and criticizes those who judge it now. NMS has already been judged and continues to be updated anyway. That should say something.
>>
>>186094598
I can literally give a fuck less about CIG or Star Citizen. I was talking about how shitty NMS and Hello are and then you just come back with "Oh well CIG does it so that makes what Hello did with NMS ok". Plus, that logic doesn't even make sense. You can't even compare the two because one studio released a pile of shit as a full retail game, CIG releases piles of shit as "slices of the full PU" or as tech demos. CIG doesn't claim that their pile of shit is a full game.
>>
>>186094598
>NMS has already been judged and continues to be updated anyway. That should say something.
Yea it says that Hello games is trying to save face after they blatantly took a shit on all their customers. They are hoping that the people who were super salty and loud about it at release got their first week refunds and are hoping people like you get tricked into believing their bullshit so they can make that money back.

in /scg/
>CIG doesn't claim that their pile of shit is a full game
Let's hold up for a minute and consider how long both of these took to make. If Sony had backed CIG instead of Hello, SC would be the early release disaster that took a year to hit minimums for people to buy. NMS started a year after SC, and had to make their own engine. They did it with less than 20 people.
It's not fair to compare the two because CIG is getting btfo, and I'm a backer saying that.
>>186095787
We really got to lack self awareness to give CIG all this deference and keep a thread up for a dead game when a single trip to the movies will get you a full release with a 30 hour campaign expansion. That may sound like a shill, but it isn't. This echo chamber just makes new ideas sound funny.

CIG doing shitty things doesn't make them a bigger disaster than Hello Games. What reality do you live in? Is there a reality where NMS came out and it was well-received? Is that where you're from?

CIG's gotten plenty of well-deserved shit over the years but nothing can compare to the ass-reaming that Hello Games got.

You both are absolutely correct. But that shit already happened. The game wasn't fundamentally bad, it just wasn't finished. This is the same exact criticism we level against CIG every day. CIG just didn't have Sony's gun to their head. If you don't want to play on principle, can't argue that. I just can't continue to stay mad at a dev trying to update their game and deliver on features in the face of what happened to them.
I don't live in the past. It plays good, it looks good, and it has expansions and plenty of shit to do until CIG gets around to whenever the fuck they feel like releasing something.
>>
>>186100407
I never gave a shit about NMS or the drama. If I wanted to play Minecraft with shitty space ships, I'd install a minecraft mod and probably have a better game. I think it's great that they're actually trying to take responsibility for their monumental fuck up, though, and turn it into an actual game, even if it ends up mediocre.

But saying that CIG has/has had worse PR than NMS is just incorrect, which is exactly what >>186099472 seemed to be claiming.
>>
>>186100709
>I never gave a shit about NMS or the drama.
I never did either. I had written it off. Then they released their first version of multiplayer along with a supposed 30 hour campaign expansion, didn't try to patch out pirates, and put the game on 60% off.
Fuck me if they aren't trying.
>>
>>186099836
NMS wouldve gotten away with it if they sold it as a "work in progress early access totally unfinished indie game plz bear with us" type deal for $30

I agree with the rest of your post except for here where you try to paint HG as the hapless victim pitted against LE EVIL CORPORATION SONY.
I find it implausible that HG and Sean had no control over their communication with their community. At the end of the day, it was them who hyped it up for sales and then massively failed to deliver (probably due to naivety in regards to Sony's deadlines).

I also don't think they should be held up as heroes for simply delivering on what they had already promised months and months later. Sure, they could have just taken the initial sales money and ran, forever ruining their chances at ever making games again, but instead they're just taking the higher of the lower roads.
>>
So I just started NMS and I'm blown away by how smooth this runs.
>>

>I also don't think they should be held up as heroes for simply delivering on what they had already promised months and months later.

Why not? I mean it's better conduct than what CIG and Frontier have done.

I mean I know who I'm going to give money to again if they make another game.
>>
>>186103137
Mate CIG and FDev are pretty low bars. I wouldn't give money to any of the three.
>>
>>186102865
No heroes but as a dev my self I respect them for what they are doing. Honestly back when it happened I thought that if I were in their shoes I'd consider leaving the game industry to work on private and government simulation stuff.
Also while they were probably complaisant in Sony's fuckery I know from experience if can be unexpectedly intoxicating when people with lots of money get excited about your work.

Still not worth it in my opinion, even on sale. But that's coming from someone who rarely buys games unless I know there will be great replay value, and from what I've seen in this new update, there's still nothing to address the fact that after 5 or so planets, you've seen them all. (Also not sure why they've added static base building to an infinite exploration game where the goal is to keep moving towards the center).

Yeah, that's confusing to me, too. The goal of getting to the center is really not a very good goal in an open sandbox game.

I have the same problem with games like Factorio or Starbound. In Starbound, there's some REALLY good building mechanics, with lots of materials to choose from, but you're constantly on the move, so it's kind of a waste. In Factorio, I get bored halfway through because the end-game goal of building the rocket is completely fucking useless and doesn't do anything so what's the point

>Yeah, that's confusing to me, too. The goal of getting to the center is really not a very good goal in an open sandbox game.
A lot of parallel have been made with the game SPORE by the developers.
The endgame of SPORE was to reach the center of the galaxy (cutting through a race who hate life) and there I heard you get a technology to terraform planet in mass, that's what I heard, I player SPORE but I couldn't bothered to do the extremely repetitive grind and terraforming process needed to have the fuel to get there.

In any case that's may be why they chose this goal.
IMO I wouldn't consider that a bad goal, if it was a spaceship centric game, which it is not.

>Factorio
The version 0..16 just got out with drastic change as well, now you don't have to kill alien to get science resources and the rocket became another mean of generating the last science.
So it's still a sandbox without a clear ending, but now the rocket isn't the ending.

It actually depends quite a bit. There are weapons will have functionally infinite ammo capacity limited only by heat generation in firing times, that do moderate damage over time. Then there's things like railguns or missile launchers with limited ammo but huge burst damage. Then on top of things, you can target specific modules on a ship with a sub-targetting system to destroy specific parts of the enemy ship, such as their powerplant or engines, resulting in an almost instant kill. And then that's not even taking in modifications and upgrades you can perform to said weapons and said systems to add things like laser damage to your miniguns, shield overload functionality to your missiles, extra armor for your powerplant, etc. I rather like ED's combat system aside from the relentless grinding required to really reach it's end level.

>I rather like ED's combat system aside from the relentless grinding required to really reach it's end level.
The way you described SC's system makes it sound very much like ED.

>weapons will have functionally infinite ammo capacity limited only by heat generation in firing times
Beams, bursts, pulse lasers.

>Then there's things like railguns or missile launchers with limited ammo but huge burst damage.
Just like ED, except missiles were nerfed into the ground.

>you can target specific modules on a ship with a sub-targetting system to destroy specific parts of the enemy ship, such as their powerplant or engines, resulting in an almost instant kill.
Yup, exactly like ED. Excepting the "almost instant kill" part, which is where my original comment regarding TTK comes in.

>And then that's not even taking in modifications and upgrades you can perform to said weapons and said systems to add things like laser damage to your miniguns, shield overload functionality to your missiles, extra armor for your powerplant, etc.
In ED you can add hull damage to your lasers (normally good against shields) and shield damage to your cannons (normally good against hulls). You can also modify your modules to withstand more damage or increase performance in exchange for vulnerability.

>I rather like ED's combat system
That's probably because it's incredibly similar to SC's combat system. I never realized this before reading your post. Oh well.

Doesn't sound very gamechanging to me. Gamechanger implies that it will take the game in an entirely different direction than it set out to previously. The most logical thing would be base building since it
1. wasn't something previously planned for the game at all
2. fits in with the PP and outpost tech they've been working on and
3. has been hyped up by CR's unadulterated speculation since GC2016
I mean they will surely need a way to construct bases somehow, and I don't think materializing walls fits in with muh fidelity. My best guess is that it will be a ship with drones that construct a base based on a player's AR plans with a mobiGlas app.

>Elite ships are ridiculously durable
>Large ED ships are crazy durable and agile
I mentioned that the ships would be scaled in range of each other, so the Vette could get taken out, wouldn't make sense otherwise.
I think the Vette with good fighters would be tough to beat also. I just wonder how effective launching and recovering to a ship during combat is going to be in SC. Ship for ship would be the Vette, but the fighters would be the decider I think otherwise.
>>
>>186145258

You'd need to nerf the ED fighters too. They punch like large ships and are squirrely little fucks.
>>

Try RES Zones sometime mate. A system with pristine rings will always have some. Not only will system police help you out, you get more money per kill and don't piss off factions.
>>
>>186149281
I was thinking the Vette would be in real trouble if the Javelin fighters were some Gladiators that could spam their torps and get back to reload.
It would have to be the Javelin taking the fight to the Vette for them to win I think. It just takes so much to wear an ED ship down that reacting to an attack would mean losing.
>>

Q3 2018, can't wait
>>
>>186149721
Torps do dick to shields in ED though unless they have feedback cascade mods. And even then if the vette is murderfit it'll have reactive armor and several hundred tons of reinforcement packages to protect internal components and repel kinetic/explosive damage while the shields are down. The state of ED's meta is completely broken even in its own game.

Erin is already pretty much in control of CIG and from the Road to Citizencon you saw him lay down the law that they were not showing SQ42 instead using 3 days to put all resources on the Sandworm demo. Beta - about insurance.png

You know about the last "Citizen of the Star"
For all boring as you said it was going to be, there was interesting bit about ship insurances
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdIhA3XsiZA

Most is what we knew already
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/12820-Insurance-FAQ-And-Update
- you must fill a claim, once done it remove your ship as a possession from you and flag it as stolen everywhere
- you pay upkeep to keep the insurance on a ship
- you pay more if you loose your ship too often
- fill too much claim and the insurance cost increase

The real question for us is how it will shape gameplay and how they'll catch fraud insurance out of those mechanics.
I remember hearing that the ship are identified both an ingame hull-ID but also a developers identifier. If that's the case I think it would be solid defense
- it allow a stolen ship to get a false legit ingame ID but not fool the developers
- if a player keep loosing ships who end up with people he know (friend/org/contact) it will be seen.
- if a player is paid real money to let his ship get stolen by strangers, the ship will still be flagged as stolen.
At this point I don't have anything about how they'll prevent a blackmarket other than having the ships too easy to obtain ingame to pay them with real money.

Does anyone see any goonery that still allow insurance fraud? Do you think any orgs could try to sell a Bengal carrier for real money?

To be fair, Freelancer got a surprising success and is STILL MODDED TODAY.
CR was replaced midway as the producer of Freelancer and Microsoft didn't care about all the feature he wanted funds for. They say "deliver a game ASAP".

Star Citizen is Freelancer v2 pushed 3 level above.
>>
>>186169869
Apparently body types will be locked due to armor and ship seating clipping issues. While SQ42 might have varied types and NPCs the players will have to rely on spacepants, facial features and decals to look different.

I can never seem to do this. I've come up to neutron stars and done what you're supposed to do (move outward from the star along the shaft), managed to stay inside the shaft for over five seconds, and nothing. Is it only certain neutron stars? I've noticed the ones in the tutorial videos I've seen have shafts that gyrate, but I've never seen one do that in-game. I don't want to do much experimentation either, because getting your ship trapped in one of those things sucks dick.

You need to go really slow for it to work. Approach the shaft approximately halfway/two thirds away from the star itself. Immediately after you've entered the shaft, turn towards the end of the shaft (away from the star), and start accelerating slowly. Once you get the message that your FSD has been overcharged, you can turn out of the shaft.

The first couple of times will be difficult cause you'll have a hard time gauging the speed needed and may not spend enough time inside the shaft, but you'll get there with practice.

Also, yeah, you need a fuel scoop for it to work I'm pretty sure.

This is the most plausible thing I have heard so far. Titan suit is unlikely because CIG would have to actually show some work, unless it's just a jpeg. SQ42 is even less likely because it is supposed to be waiting on 3.0 tech, which is still months away. CIG planning something when they haven't finished what they started already seems much more likely and consistent with past performance.

I like survival but never risk an instant death game (its torrented, so no achievement).

Theres actually a new class of ship called exotic with massive bonues (around 40 - 50 - 50) but they are as good or inferior to a S class fighter for combat and have very few slots.

A class fighters, S class shuttles and B class Haulers are the "accessible" ships one should look for in terms of price at the very start (assuming you are actually buying). Very affordable, although haulers are always expensive as hell when the slots are good.

Exotic is around 40 - 60 - 60 with somewhere between 14 and 17 slots. Also big as fuck.

So how is No Man's Sky now? Does it compete with ED on any level? I mean at least it competes with 'Most Shallow and Boring Game Title' but Elite has been really great in this sense so it's a hard contender.

>Does it compete with ED on any level?
No. It's not bad. I'm having fun but it is not ED, totally different experience. The story stuff sets it apart right away, it feels like I always have something I could be doing. It seems like it might get a little grindy later, but it's hard to be judgmental of that coming from ED.

it's how the game engine separates the fighter, explorer, shuttle, and hauler type ships (besides appearance) since they all fly about the same.

fighters get higher damage bonus, explorers get range bonuses, shuttles are all arounders, and haulers typically get more slots and a defense bonus.
>>

Doesn't matter. I got burned by playing it for too long without finding anything that could compete with a 10k~ gold item bought in the AH. I know they removed AH and supposedly fixed the drop system, but if I have to grind out Zolton Kulle's maze or whatever the hell is the new meta now one more time I am going to puke. Once you've saved the admiral's shuttle from the rebels you'll have reached the rank of chief petty officer which unlocks the federal assault ship, best fed ship there is. Load it with double shot cluster cannons, as much armor as you can and dirty drives 5 and you've pretty much won the game. Just go back to sandbox missions after that because the rest of the federation storyline is really boring.

MC in SQ42 is your SC character. You'll make a character and complete the campaign, how you do, who you keep alive or lose, how much money you make and who you befriend or piss off will carry over to the MMO part of the game, in the form of reps, citizenship, currency account, access to restricted tech and contacts.

Has there been any further word on the state of nudity in sc? Given that theres no publisher and its never gonna be sold at wal-mart, so most of the things that usually keep things PG in the skin department are non-issues.

It's a little of both, its a scripted with discrete chapters and missions, but there will be a lot of choices to be made and freedom of movement within those missions. CIG has spent all of 2016 and 2017 promising that 3.0 is just around the corner. No one would be surprised if it is much longer still.

Craft stuff to sell. Bypass Chips are very easy to make and sell for early game cash until you find a blueprint for something that sells way more.

If you have a laser on your ship you can farm resource deposits like gold/emeril on planets pretty quickly.

I got bored though so I'm running missions and killing bounties when they pop up.

You can also stockpile trade commodities from one system and sell them at another for profit.

They're just neurotic children throwing a tantrum because they can't have their toy right now.

There's literally a psychological trait defined for this called neuroticism which has been empirically categorized as the inability to delay gratification as well as unstable emotions and increased negativity, anxiety, and constant frustration. It's also been linked to several personality disorders.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroticism

Now that you know about this, all you have to do is read the description of the trait and develop enough self-awareness not to behave in the ways it describes and you can safely say you're a mentally healthy adult.

I don't have a problem with the game being delayed.

I just get pissed off that CIG has spent the last 4 months telling us it's "almost done" and "we're in the final stretch", and showing us a bunch of footage that does indeed make it seem like they're almost finished, and then pushing things back. I also get pissed that they're spending time hyping up gamescom when they haven't even finished work on the stuff they showed us last year that was supposed to be finished in a few months.

But then I guess I'm not really a hater or a cultist so that doesn't apply to me.
>>
>>186390216
There's really no cause for anger. People who get stressed over things like this can be labeled as neurotic, which is not a healthy thing to be, but saying that isn't a moral judgment either - it just isn't healthy as a point of fact, as in, it causes stress to your body and damages it over long periods of time. It's generally not an efficient way to live and something to be aware of.

I'm not mad at all, for instance. I bought the aurora starter, logged in for a few hours, went, "hey these are some good ideas, keep up the good work", logged out, and I couldn't care less if the game is released or not. My life moves on and I feel nothing because I have a higher resistance to stressors and don't feel disappointed constantly by every little thing in my life.
>>
>>186389869
Complaining about CIG is bad enough, but coming here and virtue signalling that you aren't bothered by the delays is literally the worst and misses the entire point of why people are pissed.
No one is pissed that the game is delayed, as a singular point. We all knew backing the game that they would delay it to get it right instead of rushing it out.
The part people are pissed about is how CIG misrepresented the status of 3.0 over and over again and now it has come to light that all their talk for the past couple of years about how close 3.0 was from releasing, only to find out, they still don't have a build for release, and all the previous announcements were straight up lies.
We aren't pissed the game is delayed, we are pissed that CIG makes it seem like the game is not delayed to sell ships, but is in no hurry to deliver anything to the backers, especially in the convention season.

It doesn't really matter what triggered you. Being triggered by things is a sign of neuroticism, and when it happens as a pattern, then it becomes a matter of identity. I'm just here to show you the way out of the bottle, little fly. And that is to let go, move on, and find another distraction, and forget about it.
>>
>>186390489
>There's really no cause for anger.
Investing in something you want to succeed, and then having the company be dishonest to you on a regular basis is a pretty understandable reason to be upset. Especially when the company sold itself as being honest, and how the only person they're accountable to is the backers.

>I couldn't care less if the game is released or not.
Cool, so people who care about things you don't are neurotic?

>My life moves on and I feel nothing because I have a higher resistance to stressors and don't feel disappointed constantly by every little thing in my life.
This is a dishonest, strawman argument.

>Being triggered by things is a sign of neuroticism
Being upset or angry about something is not the same thing as getting "triggered". Anger, frustration, sadness, are all very normal human emotions and distinct from neuroticism. Not everyone who gets upset about something is neurotic. The armchair psychology makes you sound like a moron.

Anger is anger, anon. It's all the same.

>Cool, so people who care about things you don't are neurotic?
People who get angry. What I care about is irrelevant, and what they care about is irrelevant.

>This is a dishonest, strawman argument.
It wasn't an argument, it was a statement to provide an example of behavior that is not neurotic.

>Being upset or angry about something is not the same thing as getting "triggered". Anger, frustration, sadness, are all very normal human emotions and distinct from neuroticism. Not everyone who gets upset about something is neurotic. The armchair psychology makes you sound like a moron.
There's no formal definition of "triggered." It's a slang term with some ambiguity to it, and the way I used it is within the realm of its general meaning, which is to git rul mad up son. I never said that the two equate to each other, I said one is a sign of the other, but if you don't believe me, see for yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroticism

Forget mictrotransactions, horse armor or blood DLC, Chris Roberts has achieved the MKULTRA of videogame kikery because he didn't even have to make a complete game to get people to pay him mad amounts of cash and defend the practice at the same time. Again, it's not about things being delayed. It's about the company constantly saying "we're almost done, just a couple more weeks, we're in the final stretch" for 4 straight months. That's either horribly naive or straight-up dishonest.

It's about things like the Cyclone sale, where the evocati window hadn't been updated that week, putting us a week inside the evocati testing window, and giving the impression that there were no more delays and that it could go to evocati soon. This was despite the fact that a developer revealed on discord that they had just started building a release branch, which has historically taken 3 weeks, but would probably take longer given the scope of 3.0. Meaning that there was no way they could launch evocati by the end of the given release window. They KNEW they wouldn't be launching it, but they didn' push the window back, and they let people think the patch was closer than it even realistically could be because they had a sale that week and didn't want people to be disappointed by a delay when they had a ship to sell.

I don't have a problem with the patch being delayed. I have a problem with CIG being dishonest about it while espousing how honest.
>>
>>186395501
This is all good and dandy nice hypothesis, but do you have a single fact to back that up?
>>
>>186395501
>That's either horribly naive or straight-up dishonest.
This is exactly what happened last year. As long as the ship sale was going on, 3.0 was just around the corner while they worked out a few details on 2.6. Then they have a bunch more work to do on 2.6, and we find out they haven't even started on 3.0 until after the last patch. Almost 2 months after the end of the original 3.0 schedule, they are in the same spot they were last year at this time, having accomplished nothing over the past year.
The current build is a buggy, barely playable mess, and 3.0 is still nowhere near ready.
>>186395921
Yeah, the calendar backs that up.
>>
>>186395921
Nigger are you really that naive?

How do you look at those facts and come to ANY other conclusion than that CIG intentionally left the evocati testing window where it was in order to bolster the cyclone concept sale?
>>
>>186395921
Let me spell it out a little more clearly for you.

It was Friday, the Tumbril Cyclone had started its concept sale the day before. 3.0 wasn't in Evocati yet. The Evocati 2-week testing window had started on Monday, so we were basically a week into it. We were informed earlier that week that there would be no Evocati this week, so no one was terribly upset that it hadn't gone to ETF.

So, it's Friday and the schedule report updates. The Evocati testing window wasn't moved. That was a really good sign. It meant they were confident that they were close. Sure, maybe we'd see another small delay next week, but it had to be close.

And then a developer made a post on Spectrum (bit of a slip that I said Discord before :^) ) that they had, only earlier this week, started building a release branch for 3.0. He said that this process has historically taken about 3 weeks, but that it could very likely take longer due to the scope of 3.0.

So, CIG had delayed the testing windows by a week or more almost every single week for months, but they didn't do it today. This was despite the fact that there was no realistic way they could get the patch to the Evocati by next week because they had only just started a 3+ week process. It's not even like this was some new blocker that had just popped up. It was a predictable, known quantity.

Why? Why would they do that? Oh, right. Because they had a shitty buggy to sell and they didn't want people upset about another delay.
>>
>>186105087

I had an idea for a NMS game mode called Fugitive/Hunter.

You play a fugitive being hunted by a single unkillabe bounty hunter type npc.

You would have to use your survival skills to stay one step ahead of him and reach the center of the galaxy without getting caught.

Conversly you could also play the Hunter trying to catch the fugitive before he reaches the center of the galaxy.

This would give the game some much needed player agency.

That was freebie. Do with it what you will.
>>
>>186397082
To add on to that, it was Will Leverett on the Evocati Spectrum page. I was the one who posted it here, but it's not like I can prove it. The post has since been deleted after somebody reposted it on SA, from where it went straight to reddit. Ironically /r/starcitizen claimed it to be fake because muh FUD goons.
>>
Just a reminder that demos for gamescon and citizencon will be finished by deadline. Since there is only so much labor, they will have to work late hours and weekends to deliver their demos. Meanwhile they are still working on dev branch without a 3.0 release branch still.

>>186398631
>>186399112
>Exactly but anon already made his mind and went with the worst case scenario.

>Dishonesty
CIG had a very large incentive to not delay the patch that week

>Laziness
They had delayed the patch many times over the last few months for much smaller things, and had made much larger changes to the schedule report. It's possible that they were just lazy, but it's extremely unlikely.

>Idiocy
If it were any other week, I'd say that yeah, they were just being retarded and can't manage their release windows. But they had been EXTREMELY consistent up until that day. The sale of the Cyclone is just way too much of a "coincidence" to chalk it up to pure idiocy.
>>
>>186399112
Sure, because after both the disaster that was Citizencon and the fact that they made ATV episodes about building tools they need to make the content for 3.0 half a year after it was supposed to be released CIG is totally not being dishonest. They're clearly telling the truth and would never hide delays from the backers to make more cash during an ongoing sale.

I see two things preventing that:

At least unless you are ready to spend a lot more time doing both, and since they could create female character model only after making the male animations, they aren't that crazy.

How many games would you like this general to be about? Two is bad enough, three is an incoherent mess.
Funny, for a game that's supposedly so large, NMS can't even get enough people together for a general, instead imposing upon a "dead" one.

I mean neither can ED but that doesn't seem to stop anyone.

Considering how many games /egg/ manages on top of the fact that this thread is dead as fuck with three games, it's not unreasonable to include NMS since it actually has multiplayer now(not fully developed, but let's not throw stones from a glass house).

And yet, a general exists that explicitly mentions ED. If it's not stopping anyone, then why don't the NMS fans just go and make their own general instead of shitting up a general that is already accommodating two fucking games?
>>186415027
When that's mentioned in the OP, I'll shut up about it. As of now, it isn't. And I'm aware that the thread is pretty much dead at the moment, but when conversation picks up (and it does), it makes it ridiculous to try and follow what's being said between three games. I don't care what /egg/ has been doing, that doesn't make it favorable.
>>186415105

How exactly are NMS posters "shitting up" the thread? It's been a pretty chill discussion apart from reactionary autists like you.
>calls other people reddit
>posts "ok retard doge"
lol
>>
>>186415510
>then why don't the NMS fans just go and make their own general
because the fans that started the discussion in this thread are all ED an SC players. No one invaded, we started paying attention when the Atlas Rising patch was actually not shit and showed Hello's commitment. We gave them another chance, but no one outside of thread regulars knows it.
I'm in favor of the OP changing. Only people with IQs less than 50 won't be able to keep up.
>>
>>186415793
"Shitting up" meant "cluttering up," I guess. It wasn't to do with discourse, rather their place in the thread at large.
also
>missing the point
lol
>>186415807
I'm aware of this, but the fact remains that it's not mentioned in the OP and discussion for both ED/SC and NMS would be improved by separating them into their own generals rather than inserting a third game into a two-game general.
>>
>>186416298
A two game general that has one scam game and one dead game. You're really not making a persuasive argument here; the genre is starved enough as is and the last thing we need is faggots trying to kick out a now-decent game because le epic /v/ hivemind hates it without playing it.
There are generals that are devoted to entire genres and do just fine. Discussing 3 games at once isn't going to harm anything.
>>
>>186416298
>splitfag argument
If we were hitting the bump limit daily(or at all), your argument would be valid. This thread has been up for 4 days, and will survive AtV probably. We don't need to divide a thread that is barely surviving, bouncing off page 10 constantly still.

That's not the point. Conversation in the last thread was livelier and if this amount of NMS posts had been present in it, it would have been a pain in the ass to read through. There were already some posts, actually, and there were other people too saying it shouldn't be here.

If the thread was called space sim general or something I could see your point, but it is specifically called SC/ED general. If it's dead then that would just come with the territory. Sure, a space sim genre general or something would be a lot more popular but it'd be something different than a SC/ED one.

Are they like the mindless critters on scamsoles thinking there only exist 1 game they can play??????
>>
>>186418304
>but it is specifically called SC/ED general

Yes, and it is currently being discussed about changing that. And if you weren't so fucking new, you would know that this is already essentially space gen.
Maybe if discussion shoots up with SC 3.0, then somebody can make a space sim general. Until then quit your bitching and play space games.
>>
>>186419112
>is currently being discussed about changing that
So, not actually changed yet. I'm aware that this thread has incorporated other space games, and I'd agree with you if the discussion was light, but when discussion starts shifting too far from what the general is supposed to be about, it becomes a problem. Until the thread is called "space general," that's not what new people are going to come here for.
Don't mistake this as an advocacy for that to happen, though. I think space games deserve their own general, but since a SC/ED general already exists, I don't think it's necessary that one becomes the other. Activity might be down but I think it's robust enough that these games deserves their own distinct general from a space gen. The interest is there, there's just a lot of "sunshine" fans, I suppose.
>>
>>186420351
That's all fine, but the first thing the thread needs to do is stay alive. No one is posting when the thread dies. When we have the problem of the thread being too crowded then we can look at it again, but we are so far from that now. There is no guarantee that we can even keep the thread up with three games.
>>
>>186420351
Another anon here,
You are trying to justify your personal taste with "I liked it before, it must never change".
It's silly.
If someone bother to make this thread a general, it will stop dying so fast.
And maybe if SC alpha 3.0 ever release and E:D ever get good they'll make their own thread.

My mind blanked aUEC and put REC in its place for a minute, probably out of sheer disbelief.

Grinding VS/PS is bad enough, but this fuckboy actually grinded the mini PU. Something that grinds to 15fps and regularly completely desyncs, with what, 4 or 5 missions total? AND when 3.0 drops it'll be wiped.

These people are morons. Not only have they done something so pointles but they've probably burnt themselves out of the game and won't be half as entertained on release

The only reason someone should buy a freighter is to get more than one ship. Apart from that, the land base is the hearth and soul of the game (income, refuge, basic blueprints and storage). All for a fraction of the price.

Unless ofc they change freighters so you can attach a shitload of weapons for force projection (I dont think it happened yet).

The route is probably 20kly while the distance traveled is going to be less because it's not a straight line. Still would like a check box for "uncapped" route planning, if I want to lock up my computer for an hour to plan a route for a fake ship in a fake universe, let me.

Thargoids? Any major changes to the galaxy? Like some kind of front line where aliens occupy half of human space or something.
>>
PVP-only changes for murder (only affects you if you murder players, not NPCs): You get a galaxy-wide pilot's fed bounty and the most expensive ship you used in your murder spree becomes your minimum rebuy if you get killed before your bounty expires. The pilot's fed bounty does not apply in anarchy systems but the min. rebuy still does.
The rebuy difference gets applied like an involuntary fine if you die in a cheaper ship. eg: If you murder dads in a 35mil rebuy corvette and then suicidewinder, you must still pay 35mil, even if this means you have to liquidate stored ships and modules to make up the cash. The free spawn sidewinder option is greyed out unless you have no assets remaining to cover your murderhobo fine.

There's a bunch of new stations/settlements around Colonia and the Pleiades, and some systems around Colonia got renamed. Nothing on the thargs. They're deliberately not including new tharg material in the beta because spoilers. There's always the possibility someone might glitch their way into new content like they did in the last beta though.

It boggles my mind that some people are bitching about this. There has to be some repercussion for just murdering other players, and it should be one you can't exploit your way out of. This seems like a pretty fair approach, though it's still able to be downplayed substantially by just being rich.
>>
>>186470482

Hows pvp in that game? Is it possible for a ganker to finnish you and escape authorities in secured space? If so, how easy is it?
>>
>>186472228
If you're in a combat fit murderboat you can gank pretty much anything but another murderboat in seconds.
The authorities are pretty toothless. They're more of a nuisance than anything. They'll show up in less than a minute in high security space and tip an even fight in your opponent's favor but are still too slow to stop a gank and would have little effect even if they showed up in time. A killvette can tank an authority conda and some vipers for several minutes.
>>
>>186472228
It depends on how high the security level is in the system and where it happens in said system. However, it's not hard to evade security forces at all, so even if they do show up, the chances of the gankers being in any real trouble are pretty low, especially given that said gankers usually have pretty well-outfitted ships.
I wouldn't call ganking common (outside of community goal areas), but it does exist and it's gone largely unchecked until this upcoming update.
>>
>>186472228
Right now, there is no authority response in ED, this isn't EVE. A proper PVP build (FedAssaultShip + 2shot frag cannons) can kill any ship in a couple seconds and you can jump away in 10.

Can kill hundreds of new players right in the starting system and just jump away from any police ships that do show up, just to kill more new players in the next system because there's no global response. There's no difference between killing someone in an anarchy system at the edge of space and in Sol system in orbit over the Earth. Or even in that system where it's invite only and the ruling faction literally has direct control (in the lore) of every player's jump drive and decides what system they're allowed to go to.

I'd be surprised if this 2.4 change has any effect at all.
>>

So since the thread is about to die, has there been a general consensus as to whether or not to include NMS in the general until things pick up for SC and ED?

I'm seeing a lot more missions at stations, like most factions have at least 10 and a couple may have 20+. Also data/cargo deliveries have sharply increased in value relative to rep and rank. I doubt that's intended.
examples:
Penniless data delivery at neutral rep: 50k
Elite data delivery at neutral rep: 700k
Elite data delivery at cordial rep: 1.4mil
Elite data delivery at friendly rep: 2.1mil
Elite data delivery at allied rep: 2.8mil

Other mission types don't look affected. Shit like salvage still hardly breaks 100k for elite and allied.

The general concensus for including NMS in /edg/scg/ is no and always has been, we've had this discussion literally dozens of times and the threads agreement has always been more than two games would be ashitshow and we don't want it.

If you want to make a new thread, with a new title, thats fine go ahead, If you wanna make a "space game general" /ssg/ go ahead, don't include SC in the general, this is the Star Citizen thread.

There seems to be interest in /edg/nmsg/ and that would be acceptable as well, as we've long said SC will at some point split off into its own thread anyway.

However every time it's come up the idea of a three game general has been rejected on grounds of readability and post clutter. Two games has enough cross game shitposting and post confusion, three would make it worse.

We have barely any posts, and NMS has a small enough playerbase it would barely affect the general. Number of games going up from 2 to 3 when all 3 games are dead won't change a thing, just promote something other than

>>

>Can CIG see through Youtube statistics which part of ATV are most commonly skipped
Yes. analytics show a time graph and you can see the second people tune out. They would know in detail how long people average on their videos and what parts were being watched the most. YT tracks not only how long you watch, but long you continue to watch other videos after. CIG would also have a rating of how engaged people stay after. That's not super important on it's own, but it would show how much hype carries forward by how engaged people remain. This is why AtV is delayed each week. The extra hype make the watch time a little more dense because CIG is dictating when the video is viewed the most and is not relying on people to get around to it.

All a mmo has to do (specially eve and SC in the future) is to make the task unpredictable and complex enough so that the bot cant adapt. Sure its always possible to do it, but image processing is always a bitch.

For example if the hacking game from eve could extend (with different sort of iterations/looks) to mining, most of the afk mining cancer, bot or not, would disappear.

If roids are static and all a ship has to do is approach and fire the lasers there will be botting. The prospect ship will be the prime candidate in case such thing is possible.
