The difference between the two versions is negligible.

If VC was only ~5 seconds apart from all other versions, it would be allowed too.

Friendly reminder that the only reason the SM64 community banned emulator is because a bunch of butthurt japanese runners got mad that JP VC was the patched version which fixed BLJs, while the english VC was the original version. The Western community only played on N64 to be able to compare to the Japanese, who at the time had the better times.

Had JP VC allowed BLJ's, the JP runners would have picked it up immediately and the western runners would have followed suit, just like in every other VC version that is faster for a game.

i saw in 2015 that one of the top eliters (davidclemens) posted that he wanted to pick up doom 64 in like 2014 and i found that forum post. also after agdq14, another top eliter (luke szklarz) picked up pilotwings 64 just to beat my dark cavern IL WR and the cofounder of the-elite Derek Clark picked up pilotwings 64 RTA. i kind of learned a bit about the community and people, and after besting luke szklarz in our WR tussle, i got some respect from them i guess. luke is #2 in the total IL rankings so he is a very good gamer and I think they thought he would wipe the floor with me

then in agdq15, i had no room for the last day and stayed with the-elite and had a lot of fun with their multiple CRT/recording equipment setup even if it was pretty degenerate. decided to room with the-elite next AGDQ and i wanted to fit in a bit more so i got the 4 easiest WRs while at the event. at this point i figured i would stop and just use my street cred to recruit some dudes to doom, which failed :^)

but yea then i started to unironically like the game even though its dogshit obviously desu. what can i say i like shitty laggy n64 games. its def more fun getting records when theres a 2 decade historical context documented for every level and a lot of active people are around that will think its cool when you improve.

my plan for now is to keep getting a WR every other month or whatever and maybe in 5 years I will have a timespage that can make a push for top 5 or champion even. the greatest thing about IL runs is that there is quite a bit of permanence compared to RTA, since its hard for all 60 of your times to be beaten a ton

I spent a few years pretending to be a new person. I adapted the source code from one of the old TASvideos thread to execute button presses on console and use it to "stream," occasionally interrupting the well-crafted input lists with mistakes and fake rage quits. My times are on speedrun.com and SRL and I even have the WR for a pretty competitive category in a SNES game

I've been living comfortably on the $1500 brought in from Twitch and YouTube ad revenue and subs, but I'm always trying to improve my $/hour of run generating.

My question /srg/ is should I attempt a second persona or just add more games to my existing one. I'm concerned people might get suspicious if I learn and master a new game and stream "WR Attempts" for it alongside my current main. Anybody have experience with this?

Now that you have a prestigious world record, you need to milk it for all it's worth. Stop streaming automated, fake runs and start streaming real ones. Make sure you can play just well enough to make it believable when you play one of your pre-recorded records during a stream. The live interaction between you and your chat will increase your audience. Once you are averaging a decent amount of viewers, let's say 1000, stop bothering with the pre-recorded runs altogether. People will be happy to watch, donate, and subscribe even if you are a mediocre grindmonkey that regularly loses runs because you're laughing at some dumb copypasta a viewers posted in chat. Eventually you will see a paradigm shift in your chat. Around half of your viewers will be speedrun enthusiasts, while the other half are dumb stream monsters that just want to be pretend-friends with a D-list internet celebrity. This is when you begin to stream nothing but casual play of streambait flavor of the month titles. The speedrun enthusiast part of your audience will balk at this, so make sure you regularly promise them you will return to speedgaming soon (you are taking a short break because you burnt out, your wrists hurt, &c.). When the last remnants of your speedrunning viewer base fade away, you may finally enjoy a well-deserved speedretirement. Don't bother writing a pastebin.
