Yes,but ganking got nerfed. You can no longer ride up on someone, dismount, and immediately start hitting them. There is now a CD before you can attack somebody after dismounting.

But to elaborate on tanking. You pick either hammer or mace, you will want to level all individual types of the one you chose eventually so don't stress on the specific pick. You level heavy armor. Is very straightforward. Knight armor is the best chest, boots and hat are more versatile. Like weapon though you will eventually want to level all four the specialization synergy.

To solo pve you really want assassin jacket to give you an agro drop. Axe and assassin jacket is solid. To solo pvp you are probably looking at double bladed staff meme at this point

I'm a newb, playing mostly solo or small guild stuff and I don't plan on joining larger guilds.

I've just been gathering on the little spare time I have, but I'd like to maybe get into some small scale pvp or ganking.

I've seen most people saying I should get an island in caerleon, but I really don't know anything about it or even black zones or how to get there or how they work, could someone explain if and why would caerleon still be a good idea for someone with the background I provided?

Sure, it's still possible. It's not like they coded the game so you can not, but with the most recent changes to the game it's a lot harder to now - and this is just the beginning.

Regardless, a developer shouldn't suddenly change his mind on a subject that is clearly important to a lot of people, particularly when there are far more important and game breaking things to concern yourself with. Nor should a developer discriminate against an entire subtype of PvP and thus an entire demographic of players.

Royal boots are pretty good though soldier boots are also good for the same purpose, royal helm can be good for pve.

Because of specialization bonuses you will want to level up and use all the armors of an armor type eventually

not particularly, use to get to the t4 group dungeons then do those if you are tank or healer, solo open world pve if you have a build for it. Doing expeditions as a dps is the slowest thing you can do.

Yeah battleaxe and merc is the standard for that activity, others are capable of doing it a little worse, if you have high burst damage and an agro drop you can do it slowly but surely.

Being a dps who cant solo is the worst spot to be in i think. Expeditions are not actually very good fame but a tank or healer can at least do them consistantly, but a dps that cant solo is stuck doing expeditions as well, but has massive queues.

The mobs guarding the chests are certainly an issue, yes, but even if you're running the battleaxe and merc jacket build you still run into the issue of other players trying to kill you. If you're running an axe, that means you have essentially zero PvP utility (carrioncaller excluded) so expect to get your dick kicked. Also, it's pretty common for people to ride around looking for chests that are currently being fought over and to simply walk in and start beating on the chest while some poor sap does all the hard work for you.

It's not amazing but taking a guaranteed 25k fame and 10k silver every t6 expedition which on average takes 15 minutes isn't horrible. If you get into a group (which is super easy, just have over 900 item power) you don't have to worry about queue times at all.

its still one of the best 1v1 builds and roaming gankers are usually compromised for the ability to chase and dismount these days and red zones are honestly pretty safe most of the time. there are plenty with 0-2 flagged. just keep an eye out and if a group shows up go a zone over

If you are on top a mountain you can see further than people below you can see. So you have a group on top a mountain near a trafficked area, and an interceptor to act as bait/initiator down off the mountain who rush down 'out of nowhere' and gank.

You could try making use of it solo too if there is a mountain in the path of common travel, standing on top of it will give you more warning before they can see you, maybe the reaction time bonus will give an edge.
