Yes.

For attacks with low-to-mediocre modifiers (that means basically everything except charged R2s and some xform attacks) Cold, Cold +15, Abyssal +15 (or Abyssal +33 in Bolt's case) is your best bet.

Attacks with big modifiers will lose damage on weapons with too much +x stuff because even though it adds to your nominal AR, it doesn't get factored into and modified by your attack midifier; it just gets added on at the very end and cut by the enemy's defense.

On a Pure Arc build Cold Abyssals on Toni isn't a bad idea actually, it's like a converted Bolt weapon with Blunt damage on the side. On Str/Arc Nourishings are optional, I use BB Pellets with that setup to up the Blunt.

Trying to go off the level design to figure things out makes no sense - we know the main character came from elsewhere, that there's a whole world out there, but we can't go there. Everything in Ludwig's bossfight is so perfect, holy fuck. His visual and sound design, his intro, the 2nd phase cutscene along with MLGS' presentation, the fucking soundtrack. Byrgenwerth came first. They're basically just scholars and "intellects" who fought something within the chalice dungeons, likely Ebrietas, which gave them access to the old blood. Willem says the blood is bad, and that we should instead put eyes inside our brains to ascend passed humanity's limits.
At some point, Laurence decides that's stupid, and goes off to form the healing church, designed to use blood to cure and help the sick and needy. This eventually leads to the beast scourge.
The first hunter is Gehrman, who enlisted normal people to kill the beasts with him.
At some point, the healing church wants to get into the beast killing business, so Ludwig gathers around a bunch of jackasses and tells them to kill beasts.
Then there's the choir, a bunch of stuck up sumbitches who think they're cool because they wear blindfolds and can use "magic." These guys are either assassins or super arrogant scholars, or both.
Finally, we get to Mensis. These fuckers are retarded and wanna summon an Old One in order to...something. Ascend, maybe.

Then there's you, the no name faggot from a far off land, coming to Yharnam because you hear about this bullshit magical blood that can cure anything. Well, you find someone who gives you this blood, but they kinda rope you into all this nonsense about dreams and shit, and all you really wanna do is go back home, but you can't, since every time you make it to the city limits, some giant multi-eyed alien fucker grabs you with this vortex shit and forces you back into the city.

Then again, it seems like Willem actually wants you to kill Rom whereas Yurie is trying to impede your progress, so she may have been placed by the Choir to stop people killing Rom, which is what Byrgenwerth actually want to happen (insofar that Willem is Byrgenwerth).

Rom was keeping the blood moon at bay and suppressing the Mensis Ritual. He's actually one of the few good guys in the game and is technically on your side, which is why he isn't hostile until you attack him. I think the Choir/Willem split is because the Choir trusts in Rom's ayy lmao powers to beat back the night of the hunt. There's also the fact that the choir likes making contact with ayy lmaos (see Ebrietas) so they probably want to protect Rom to gain power and EYES from it. But Willem understands that it's not a typical hunt and that for the hunters to succeed and reach the Nightmare of Mensis and stop Micolash's gang, killing Rom is a necessary evil, so he helps the player to accomplish this.

Just convert a weapon to fire damage and go fuck him up. You can farm a couple fire gems from Hotdog to carry you through the early game. Also remember to use Molotovs, they scale with ARC.

Cold Abyssals make a pretty big difference, yeah. I can't give you exact figures but you'll see once you start slotting them into your weapons. Generally you want two Cold Abyssals and a % gem, though it can vary for some weapons.

If you are gonna use it on your Arc build, the best version (Lost) is in the dungeons. Nourishings (All ATK Up) gems are the best for 20+/50 Str/Arc

You're most likely gonna have to deal with 40 Vit and base End, which isn't too bad really. Iirc Lone Survivor lands you on BL99 with the 2nd lowest Arc, Military Veteran lands you on 100 with the lowest Arc and you can use Bloodletter too. Noble Scion might be the only one to fit in 98.

Guns can do great damage, Reiter shots do the most damage per bullet but can't be BMA'd. Reiter shots don't scale that well with Blt but even at base 10 Blt you should do decent damage, and it's nice doing trickshots with it. Repeating Pistol with low Blt is good for BMA shots without high investment, just don't spam it since it shoots 2 bullets per shot.
