Not a game, just playing around with unreal materials. Added white letters and the 'rain' gradient with an alpha map. I've now used all my channels, so I think its done.

Sadly, its still pretty terrible looking compared to the original effect, where individual letters fade in and out to create the scroll or rain. I'm pretty obviously just panning an alpha along it, which looks fine at a distance but shit up close.

Though the only other way to approach this without programming would be a video or animated texture. Neither of those can be edited on the fly like this material can. So if I wanted effects like blood turning the letters red or have explosions give the letters 'waves', this material makes it pretty easy.

Its also fun trying to do everything with one texture, but it might be ultimately less optimized than just using two or three.

Today, hair was added, this was as expected super quick Shame i'm a fucking lazy piece of shit though since its still all i did today. Next step is probably blendshapes, and variation in all colors, and then with a bit of luck we might actually have almost recognizable random characters.

Has anyone successfully released a 3D game all by himself?

I never understood why solo indies would want to focus on 3D, considering the modeling, rendering and extra calculations needed compared to 2D.

3D is actually much easier once the groundwork is done.

This is why you don't see traditionally animated movies anymore. All CGI.

Much easier to move a limb from point A to point B than to draw 15 frames of it.

He fed the fire by working on 3 games at once right after the kickstarter got funded. It WAS justifiable, since he had hired a coder and couldn't do any work on Bokube, but it LOOKED like he had taken the money and used it for another game.
All that said, he really is a fast and (relatively) successful dev, so people channel their jealosy into the tangible aspects of his dev persona that he left open.

Isn't that bad. Modeling takes longer than making a sprite, yes. But once a model is done you can use it from any angle and with any lighting without having to do anything extra. And you can easily swap the texture without having to redraw frames. So all in all making a model could be faster than making a sprite, depending on how much animation it has and how many angles it's going to be viewed from.

All done by the engine, if anything you might want to make a custom shader, but you make one shader that you use for almost all the models, barely any extra work.

Again, all done by the engine. The only two complex things that 3D has which 2D doesn't have to worry about is:
Rotation around all 3 axis. Which you just use Quaternions to solve. You don't even need to know how they work, the engine will do it for you.
And making the camera frame the game nicely without clipping into things. This can take some time to solve depending on the game, but it's not that difficult.

the head motion just doesn't make sense at all

also get a pdf of the animator's survival kit from somewhere (just google it). don't read it. use it as a reference. it has a ton of guides for how certain movements should be.

Yeah, it's a wordpress site with custom form submissions to a custom themed post page. So basically devs sign up to make a blog post containing links to itch.io and screenshots of their game.

The voting system is more technically complex but is managed by a plugin so it can be installed by just clicking "activate". The rest of the work is in customization.

I worked as a web dev for several years so i know how easy it actually is, the hardest part is actually coding the website, running it in very easy, unless you are something really big like youtube.

Just curious what you guys think of this.

I've been doing the tutorial modules for unity starting with the roll a ball project, and have been doing the rest. I want to know what you guys think about the modules in terms of it helping you learn the basics, because so far i have more or less caught how to use the basic unity functions, but struggle to understand some of the API descriptions whenever i look something up. Scripting is something i'm starting to understand but i'll have to learn what the basics actually are, such as float, void, and other commonly used terms in development.

void is kind of complicated, it means that the variable isn't really supposed to hold anything, so it can kinda sorta hold anything, usually it's used for extending the language and the libraries you use

Now, consider in that same time, how many ATTEMPTS have been made. This is the part you are missing if you think gamedev is in ANY way lucrative, and not a complete lottery at best, and a complete brickwall slightly more realistically.

It's more that the erotic aspects of this game are more closely tied with the gameplay, as opposed to Anubis which had the two things decoupled.
The whole point of having him be bottomless is to make animating the erotic sequences easier. No having to worry about having to get the enemy characters to remove their armor somehow, no having to worry about animating loose armor, etc etc etc. It's a practical decision on all those fronts.

I wasn't going to say anything, but the body shape reminds me of my mother. Stomach like that is usually a sign of vaginal prolapse in older women.

When women have had a few children and get older, especially around menopause, the uterus starts to detach from the inner walls and starts to collapse pushing the vagina out through the body. Along with hernias, this creates this lower stomach bulge which isn't fat, just organs getting pushed down.

The silhouette of the character just tells me 'older woman who has had a few kids and a hard life'. I don't mind it, guess it's a little novel because you don't see that archetype as a main character in games.

Whether or not that was the dev actually thought about it that way or did it instinctively is up for debate.

The colors look like plain black and white. That's bad for something that's supposed not to be the focus of the scene. Background benefits from low contrast (e.g. blue and slightly darker blue) and lower saturation (colors are closer to gray than "neon").
The noise comes from things just being scribbles, but I'm sure you'll figure out proper technique with time and effort.

A lot of tagging, variable tracking, and certain rpg-esque elements. I don't think that RenPy limits you in that way; most people just use it for "look at my fanfiction, it has anime tits!". It's a framework that runs on top of Python, which is more than enough to suit your needs. You are just not the main target demographic, but you should be able to realise your project with a little tinkering.

the switch seems too much troubles to control.
so i have a weapon control to create instance of object_weapons1 / object_weapons2 / etc.
then the object_weapon's create and steps will handle each different weapons for me.
so when i can simply create say object_weapons_handgun to handle the handgun-shooting one bullet at a time control.
then when i change weapon i can delete the object and create a object_weapons_flamethrower to make it a flame-particles emitting control.

How much effort do you guys usually put into naming your games?

I was thinking about what to call my project rather than constantly naming my webms "3D Megaman ____"
My current game project is based off a failed college project I did years ago called "Bittersweet", pic related was a title screen that was made for it.

The best name I've come up with for my new project currently is "Ultra Sweet".
keeping the idea of sweet in the name since it's all gonna be candy/sweet themed, but also giving more homage to the Mega Man inspiration.

Basic Mega Man plot: something made the various "robot masters" start doing bad shit, MC has to go and smack them all to make them stop, then take their powers to smack the next one until finally fighting the villain pulling the strings.

The concept is actually based off the classic Imp from DOOM but redesigned to look like an Elite from Halo. The green eyes and red armor are inspired by Nu-DOOM. The gun is a reference to the Halo plasma rifle, but with a Nu-DOOM style demon skull. The head it shoots out is a nod to the Lost Soul enemy from the DOOM games. I guess I didn't do a good enough job with the design tribute since it's not immediately recognizable to everyone.

I like it quite a lot. You have a good grasp of the necessary balance of activity/ambience. The melody instrument maybe halfway through? has some iffy decisions but you also stick with it enough that it kind of works. Good sense of counterpoint and returning to a theme. I'd definitely like to hear more, I hope you keep making and posting stuff.

The game we wound up with was unplayable garbage.
All we really had going for us was some good art assets. We had a great concept artist in the group and our modeling and animation was pretty good.
But we didn't have a good coder and our game design was trash.

That's why I'm taking the old art and concepts and trying to make something new now that I know a lot more about coding.
And I feel the megaman gameplay mechanics/style would fit much better with what we had made.

Honestly, I'm a bit worried about what'll happen when I run out of the old concept art and have to start making my own. Not sure if I can really meet the style.

If you could figure a way to make it reasonably easy for scale to either be apparent or not matter, maybe it could work. I played games in a time before internet, and drew maps and it was (mostly) fun. And I have a feeling people get a kick out of doing that now, or at least the idea of it. I wouldn't discount it but prototype a bit and get creative with the interface, and expect to scrap a few ideas at the feedback of testers.
The idea should be to minimize the effect of error propagation in player perception of angle/distances

couldnt spend much time on this the past couple days because of a bunch of financial and life issues that came up

REALLY fucking hoping to FINALLY be done with this this weekend or at least by the end of monday, I just want to get onto the next one and this has taken WAY too long. not that I haven't had fun, I just feel like shit about not putting out more

luckily we're not at a point where we need to be pumping out new assets and our programmers are still working out the kinks and fine tuning the movement system. they told me they don't want to make a video until they feel like they have something substantial to show that isnt just ordinary 3D movement so... we'll have to wait and see.

I haven't much gotten a chance to test out what's there but I do know they're making good progress, they're currently working on making rail logic functional last i recall, as well as smaller movement details like fixed turning angles (turning beyond which will activate the dash-turnaround animation like in JSRF)

I did get a chance to start texturing tonight and I tested the textures i made in the concept shader in blender; pretty neat. I'm texturing with no more than two shades, and I'm going to overlay color and designs on top of the two-tone shaded textures. hoping it'll look nice in-engine :0

we also got a guy on the team working on setting up the shaders, god bless. our team is looking pretty dandy right now and I can't wait to actually have a video out for you folks, loking all of the games I've been seeing, especially that tongue-whipping frog platformer. that shit is so good dude, props.

it's not the process that's halting me, it's a lot of life issues going on at once and the fact that we had a LOT of design elements changed during development

also a lot of studios can take upwards of a month to finish a character's model from my understanding, so I don't really find my pace to be an issue, only that I'd rather be faster about it regardless and I'm tired of being held up by unrelated shit going on with my family and money

part of the process making this model was also the basemodel and skeleton which can be recycled for most future characters, cutting down on development time significantly, since everything will be rigged practically automatically if duped from the base mesh.
