Funky Gunk Edition
Previous jej: >>183924527

The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not as dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Crossout
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Garry's Mod
>GearBlocks

>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Skywanderers
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.
>Shadowverse, found in the shadowverse general, /svg/, not in this general.

>World of Tanks, found in the World of Tanks general, /wotg/, not in this general.
>Crossout, found in the Robocraft General, /rcg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Maybe I am just burned out, but this gun is hot garbage sometimes, easy to dodge, deals very little damage depending on how it hits and any little lag completely fucks you over, also:

>press launch
>still have to wait until rocket explosion to take control of your car

>going to score, but the collision detection fails and the rocked just phase thought the car

Back to the more traditional guns, I guess.

It's fucking great. Aim for the cabin and avoid any sticky out bits (Really flat robots and hatchets and such are bad) and you do crazy good damage.

A direct hit to the cabin does like 75%-100% of their max HP, which is sometimes as much as over 1000 damage.

Compare to the executioner which I find often does perhaps 9 or 48 damage, the clarinet will at worse do maybe 78. And you don't even need line of sight to the target.

It is vastly better than the executioner until later levels at which point having to put your full focus on the rocket is a pain since you could instead be firing three executioners at once.

the "detection" is well within the margin of error provided by micro-facets in the back wall of the detector, any disturbance from any source would be enough to trigger it. if you weren't an idiot you would realize that it was a seismic disturbance of the facility, if not an outright error in the sensor
>>
>>184194184
t. idiot
They have two separate facilities hundreds of miles apart and not in the same seismic area that detected the wave simultaneously. And the wave conformed exactly to the predicted model of the gravity wave that would be produced by two black holes merging together, it wasn't just nonsense.
>>
>>184194184
From the LIGO's FAQ:

Measuring all known noise sources (e.g. earthquakes, winds, ocean waves, trucks driving by on nearby roads, farming activities, even molecular vibrations in LIGO's mirrors) with seismometers, magnetometers, microphones, and gamma ray detectors, and then filtering out the signals caused by these noise sources from our data.
Looking for identical, simultaneous signals from multiple detectors world-wide (LIGO, Virgo, GEO600). This rules out noise sources which are local to a given detector. The more detectors that feel the same vibration at "the same time" (accounting for a gravitational-wave's travel time between detectors), the more certain we are that the source of the vibration was not local.
Using sophisticated analysis techniques to filter out and separate noise from a potential signal
Comparing the signals received with theorized patterns of gravitational waves generated by known phenomena
Confirming the timing of the possible gravitational wave event with astronomical observatories, hoping to see a coincident electromagnetic event on the sky (e.g. light from a supernova explosion).

Basically, if something was due to seismic activity, it would likely take a moment to manifest itself if it does at all in another place in the world whereas a gravity wave I'm pretty sure is probably faster than an earthquake, but I haven't really checked.
And otherwise they can measure the earthquake.
>>
>>184194481
>a gravity wave I'm pretty sure is probably faster than an earthquake, but I haven't really checked.
the speed of light is a fuck of a lot faster than the speed shockwaves travel through the ground, yes.

Yeah, I can get amazing results in some matches and its probably one of the most fun weapons, but in some cases, people just don't have exposed cabins, or you can't properly aim because of positioning/map design, or I am having very smalls peaks of latency and the gun is almost unplayable unlike machineguns and others.

There is just not enough consistency. I am gonna keep mine on the storage for now.

>When activated, a Stargate produces a violent burst of energy known as an unstable vortex or "kawoosh". This is due to the large amount of energy needed to form a stable wormhole, while keeping one open is much less power-intensive. This event will destroy any matter it comes into contact with; however, if the event horizon is blocked to within a few microns, the vortex will be suppressed.

You could use firework rockets for propulsion and give them a reasonable flight duration so if you dodge them long enough they run out of fuel

But if you make the missiles turn sharply enough they can rip their wings and then they're not a threat anymore. Or they can crash into each other. Or you could be a real kickass pilot and make them fly into a mountain or some shit

>But if you make the missiles turn sharply enough they can rip their wings and then they're not a threat anymore.
That applies to this missiles design I made, of course. If I've made planes that can survive a 100G turn I'm sure it's possible to make a missile that doesn't give a shit about G forces

They got rid of the free login crates that gave out weapons, which were flooding the market making everything cheap. Now everybody has to craft shit again to get anything, so prices on everything are going up.

But the prices on rescources are also going up as well, so you can still just sell everything you earn and buy whatever you want.

Also dont open the event crates. This dude opened 30 for a jewtube video. He got 1 purple, and it was the hunting horn. Everything else was shit that wasnt even worth half what the crate itself would have sold for.

>>
>>184232808
>>184233345
I thought that was only the event pushing up the prices of scrap higher, making craft also more expensive.
>>
>>184234240

Its a little of both. Retards who want to make crates are out of scrap and need to buy it so prices are going up on it.

And with the free loot crates you got for logging in/winning brawls removed, people cant flood the market with stuff they got for free and have to craft/pay workbench fees.

After the event ends prices will probably come down a bit, and then down even lower once all the new steam babbies get up to a decent level and start making their own gear to sell on the market.

More players selling shit = everyones competing to sell and has to lower their sell price

Because you have to place fields and fields and fields of accumulators and solar panels for them to come close, and that's all space you could use for industrial expansion.

>>184246559
Biters get more dense and more annoying the further out you go making reclaiming space more of a challenge.
There's also the fact that it's still much more resource and space efficient to use nukes or coal, and efficiency is the point of factorio.
What the fuck else are you supposed to do with it all anyways?

>>184247725
That legitimately applies to logibots though.
They make things unfun by being too easy.
Though once you get big enough using them is a punishment in and of itself due to them being pants on head retarded.
Constructors are fine though.
>>
>>184247725
It's almost as bad as if you had a facility that generated infinite copper or iron slowly over time.

The main difference is that it doesn't create a positive feedback loop because while you do need energy to make solar panels the main limiting factor is other materials.

It simply makes one of the easier resources a non-issue with enough effort.
>>
>>184245973
You can also stick them literally anywhere though. They're a hassle if you rely on them solely, until you have logibots, which however happens fairly early on, then you can just dump a pile of them into some corner and you'll never ever have to think of those megawatts again. They emit no pollution either so they don't really need any special defenses, just the area cleared of biters once.
Nuclear is second best, but it's comparatively complicated to set up and you need Kovarex, one of the most late game researches, for it to be decent. Coal is in reality shit, consumes a fuckton of coal and you constantly need to pay attention to how much you have, and it pollutes the most by far, but because it's the most polluting one, it's the /egg/ favorite.
>>
>>184245632
>Space inefficient
Valid critique if and only if you play on a map that has finite dimensions. AFAIK not a very popular playstyle, but to each his own.
>Energy inefficient
It makes energy out of nothing. Doesn't get much more efficient than that.

> always more sensible to use coal/nukes
Nukes make more sense once you have them, but the research takes time, as does getting the 40 U-235 to bootstrap Kovarex.

If you expand rapidly relative to research, you can easily get into a situation where coal supply is a hassle, and solar can make a big dent in that.

You can build large solar farms from blueprints, and once built they don't need maintenance. Setting up coal mines (and the associated railway network) takes more effort and they don't last. And coal adds to pollution.

But once you have nuclear fully set up, there's really no point in using any other power source.

>But once you have nuclear fully set up, there's really no point in using any other power source.
The exact same argument you make against coal also applies to nuclear: Setting up uranium mines (and the associated railway network) takes more effort, even more than coal thanks to the acid requirement, and they don't last. Solar in-game is cheap and lasts forever, unlike real life, making it probably the best power option unless you specifically desire to be forced to expand in search of that extra sixth resource.

Because your other station is on the wrong side of the fucking tracks like somebody said ages ago.
>>
>>184251259

Buzzsaws do more damage for half the weight and slightly less armor than augers. Buzzsaws superior.

Equalizers need 7 seconds of constant firing to reach maximum damage. Meanwhile Spectres can hit maximum power in like 2 seconds. Also no spinup time on Spectres. Spectre superior.

Cannons and Turret Cannons are both good. They both have their uses, and heavily depend upon your playstyle and the way your car is built.
>>
>>184252276
It doesn't give me an option to place in on the other side though
>>
>>184251937
I went and checked.

Spectre starts at about 16 damage per 'damage info tick'. Ramps up to 24 rapidly.
Equalizer starts out at about 16 damage per 'damage info tick' but resets on a miss, ramps up to 32 over time.
The equalizer lasts longer and has only a very slightly longer cool time, in theory.

I would say each has their merits.

>>
>>184253262
I looked at those tutorials but I don't remember them mentioning anything about being able to make a track one way
>>
>>184253396
I am sure it was out there.

Anyway, to spoonfeed you and stroke my little ego:

if you plop a signal it allows train to ride from the rail block where green bulb is to where the red bulb is
if you want trains to go back and forth, you need plop another signal opposite of the one you've done
>>
>>184252881
You've put signals such that trains can only travel "north" along that track, and train stops are directional with the train pulling in such that the station is on the right side. The game recognizes that your track is one-way and thus won't let you put a stop on the west side side, as that would be the left side for a train traveling north, which wouldn't work, so it won't let you place it. The most basic way to make track two-way would be to look at every rail signal you've placed and throw down another one on the opposite side of the tracks. Looks like you have some redundant signals though so you may want to consider ripping them up and starting afresh. Remember that the game displays a block number for each section of rail in the tooltip, which you can use to see where the division lines are between signal-defined "blocks".

You clearly suck, hence I'm suggesting you to not play on deathworld and git gud instead of protecting your e-penis by gloating about how you can do deathworld, like anyone else.
Factorio is mainly an infrastructure building game and the science packs are the main drain that make all the resources disappear at the end, I don't know what you're expecting here. You can say that it doesn't appeal to you, but if you want to make an objective claim about how it's shit, you're gonna have to either point to a similar game that does things better or at least offer some examples of what it should be doing instead.

You are either stupid or very stupid.
Original argument was about solar power, and you, pansy, countered my "building space" point, with "muh bitters" to witch I replied - I always play death worlds (so it's not a problem to me). What's context, right?

>science packs are the main drain that make all the resources disappear
>so you'll get 6 of them, make it endless and call it a great game
Get out of here...
The least they could do, is at least hold on to the different tech branches properly (as in - black for military and so on), because once "endless" is reached it goes back to - all packs for everything. But enough of that.

I mean, enjoy your game, but don't say it's good.

As a game it sucks, and rather than "Factorio", it should be called - "A really long way for launching a rocket", because at the end of day, with all those huge production complexes, there's really nothing much you can do with your shitty factory, or to do in general, than rebuilding or expanding it for shits and giggles.

I came up with this little challenge where I have to defeat the three missiles one at a time, with each missile launching after the previous one was destroyed or disabled, like this one which hit the ground with its ass and lost its engine. There's also the bonus difficulty of having to pay attention to my altitude depending on where I am (freeze point is at around 370 m, but it only covers a small portion of the center of map) and trying not to smash into the map boundaries which can be hard since I'm looking behind me most of the time

So far I've only managed to survive one missile, sooner or later they always get me. Current record time for staying alive is 136 seconds

Its mostly because Steppenwolf equipment cant be crafted until you are lvl25, and the jawbreaker is one of the best cabs in the game.

And then above that TOW missiles and Humpback cabin need Jawbreaker cabs in the crafting recipe.

if you mean the frame bits then i'm pretty sure it's only due to increased weight which you could counteract with lighter panel parts

the difference in between speeds of both cabins could be made up with better play, but you could also just upgrade to a jawbreaker for extra tanking and be ready for late game pve

Building turrets is the best it's a never-ending source of entertainment and by itself is more demanding than many full games.

I feel there's a lot of room for another game to take this concept further and fuse it with factorio-like mechanics for manufacturing the ammo and transporting it to the firing pieces of the guns.

I was having a blast and then I started having to construct a huge perimeter of turrets around my whole factory and then go and repair shit because they'd damage the walls and stuff. That's because the blocks currently in the game are multi-purpose and can be used for a number of functions, whereas most minecraft mods will have blocks for specific purposes, so Skywanderers will need a few more blocks to make something function the same.
It's a similar idea to attempting to split streams in Infinifactory before you have switches and pushers. If it's possible, it would take a fuckload of blocks (it probably isn't, I don't want to think about it)

Executioner is way more meta and brokenly over powered because of its special ability that lets it do its damage through 3 layers of armor/parts setting off fuel tanks and generators inside peoples cars. Meanwhile Fatmans shots just explode on peoples exteriors.

Fat Man can turn 360 all the way around, but it has no special ability at all, making it much less effective.

Executioners also use 1 less energy, giving you more room to cram in bigger engines, or radar, etc.

The shots dont stop doing damage if theres only 1 layer. It will just do all its damage to that one layer. It evenly spreads its damage through all 3 layers it hits.

>useless for taking out weapons because the shots go through doing minimal damage?

Same thing applies. It it hits a gun with nothing directly behind it, oits doing all its damage to the gun. And most guns are 2 blocks thick anyway, so itll often hit the gun and do a bit of damage to the armor under it if you hit at the right angle.

If you can unlock all content in under 10 hours then why are you locking it at all? That's practically just two days of playing the game.

You're the idiot for thinking you have to throw money at Cuckout to get anywhere. You don't even know what real fucking Jewish grinds look like. Unless somehow I missed the repair cost that you have to pay to fix your ride after every battle. Oh wait, that's not there at all. So yes, that IS what you said. The game gives you a free FOUR HUNDRED PERCENT BONUS every single day that stays until you actually manage to get use out of it rather than being just your first victory, and "premium time" does not exist. You hate the fact it takes resources or xp AT ALL. If you claim not to, then you're an idiot for the same reason as the above post I responded to. If it's going to be easy to unlock it shouldn't be locked. If you're going to lock it, make it take effort. Cuckout has a perfectly acceptable balance between content accessibility and effort required.
Seriously, go play World of Tanks and then tell me Cuckout has a bad grind. I dare you.

I will cut in as a voice of reason here and say some people aren't looking for a finely crafted experiance. Why do you think gmod is so damn popular?

For a dev to keep adding content to a game they need to have a net positive income, and while one guy can manage on 2-3k a month, a dev TEAM needs a retarded amount more than that. You start running into other costs such as taxes, vacation pay, raises, bonuses, all the shit you need to run a professional studio, ect.

> Do you remember when you'd buy a game and it's just all there?

You're forgetting games like this still exist and come out regularly my man, it's just the games that keep giving are more popular because the experiance doesn't need to stop when you play the final chapter of the game, you can start for free, play with your friends and so on.

You don't understand how professional companies work, anon, its a good bit of knowledge to have. The devs, hilariously enough, are pretty much innocent as far as this goes.

The company either gets ALL of the money, or NONE of the money. There is no company that will do anything less. They exist to make money. If a manager gets it in their head you need to wring out the players, that's whats going to happen or no game will be created at all. The odd indie team is exempt from this of course, they don't make enough money to even begin paying of loans if they're not a megahit.

Basically, yes. Depends how big a company is though. Those people are out of a job if the company goes under, but they do get their last salary.

Furthermore, even killing myself will b e disappointg cause at the end of the day I'm just a bag of inbred monkey protein to feed the literal worms I tread on every day.

And those boring chemical reactions in you, the ones dependent on that oxygen content, dependent on your consumption of various materials and compounds, somehow order themselves together to make (you).
Able to reason, play video games, shitpost, to feel, and to contemplate the very natures of those ideas.
You are the sensory organs of an otherwise unfeeling, uncaring existence. All responsibility of deriving that existence's meaning lies on your shoulders. Regardless of your powerlessness to change the systems that are in place, you ultimately get to decide what it all means.

Because the only thing that matters is you. I can't prove myself to be real to you, but your ability to witness this universe and to sit there and reflect on it proves that you are, and that alone gives you the right to extract meaning.
>>
>>184375294
That is part of the problem, I'll grant you. If the government didn't take over and force companies to work their way around these laws and in the process take highly risky (and incredibly cheap) business practices, companies wouldn't get hyperinflated except under very specific circumstances. As it stands we have companies working together to stay out of each other's territories, and firms getting so big that they take over entire countries. Like Britain? It has 90 percent of it's public services provided by ONE corporation. The more the government gets involved with the economy, the worse off everyone will be.

>>184375360
It's not usually that simple. The problem with big companies is that it is hard to get a lot of people working in tandem to take them down. Stop buying all of a companies products, and get people to quit working for them, those rich people at the top will start to respect the little people more. But nobody cares about how a company treats its employees anymore, all they care about is getting stuff as cheaply as possible. Which is why companies like apple and wallmart get away with their shit.

You guys are boring. World war three is right around the corner. Invasive species will obliterate much of the world's resources, leaving humans with utter devastation to deal with. Oil will in the coming years become more scarce, and the only reason we have advanced as quickly as we have is because of all the cheap energy. Leaders only get into power because they bribe all the people with real power, the companies and other members of government. All those tax loopholes? They are made by design. No significant number of people will remember your or my name.

laser adder.webm

Gave up on previous algodoo project, predictably. On the other hand I made a bit of progress with my laser based rod logic computer. Simplified the full adder to use a lot fewer lasers/springs which should ease the CPU burden a bit, and also came up with an efficient idea for controlling the sequence of actions.

.webm shows the full adder in action. The cam on the right just pushes the rods through every possible combination to verify it works (except for 0 0 0, which I can remove altogether). Instead of using physical rods to verify which gaps are open (which needs a lot more spring and cam fuckery) I'm using lasers plus a simple script. The script determines if it's being hit by a laser or not. If it is, then it changes collision group which pushes out a rod which is overlapping it. The pushed rod can block or unblock lasers further down the chain once I have everything hooked up.

It's the first time I've actually used the optics for anything other than "oooh pretty". For adding 1 + 1 + carry, it needs to push both the Sum and Carry rods at the bottom, which I do using a beam splitter than strikes both sensors.

The main advantage with lasers over rod logic is that the signal is transmitted a lot faster. For instance, a traditional rod logic NOT gate requires 2 separate rod pushing actions to get the result. Lasers require just one (unblocking the laser) and the laser is immediately blocked.
