Sometimes I want a mission like that. It's fun when the game throws you a curveball in the form of an absolute slog.

Ideally, the new Sitrep situation could balance something like that, by giving the player an idea of the terrain in advance. So if you know the map is going to have a lot of explosives, you can plan accordingly.

History of Psi research might be different in XCOM 2's version of XCOM 1, since SPARKs are different from MECs too, and JULIAN exists and was apparently created during the XCOM 1 era.

It's possible that upon learning that the aliens had psi, they started trying to find out if some humans naturally had the talent (a la the Furies) and so put together a more ad hoc psi program.

If Templars are lead by a former XCOM soldier, their reasons for hating the Skirmishers are pretty plain to see, because "fuck ADVENT and their puppets"

Templars and Reapers probably don't get on because Psionics will make people uncomfortable. Reapers probably suspect them of being Ayy collaborators in some way, since Psi is pretty exclusively the domain of the Ayylders.

They've really screwed up the canon on what exactly happened to end X1.

Oh, and about the book (where a lot of the roflstomp 'lore' comes from) - it actually had several other inconsistencies not just with known game lore but also reality. Simply put, the author was a hack and the book's canonicity should be suspect.

Well, they did. If you take the book as canon (I know, I know, but it's still the best objective source we have other than fan theories), XCOM kept fighting even after the Commander was lost, they were just forced to rely on more and more desperate measures as things fell apart.

Oh man, it gets better with ABA2. It still does the thing where Celatids would make up two of the pods in a typical missions but since the pod sizes are larger there's gonna be more of those nigs. Fighting two pods at once is less of a challenge and more of a question of how many you can hit with a single flashbang. Doesn't help that their surprisingly high endurance (at least the t2 and 3 versions) adds up to form a bigger headache.

I honestly agree with his sentiment, but the timer is so forgiving on the Doom Clock there is no way you can actually feel rushed by it.

Forced extraction mission turn timers can fuck themselves though. If the in game explanation is "to many Advent show up," that's bullshit when your literal supersoldiers are tearing through dozens of enemies a mission already. They could have at least had them appear on the tactical layer rather than just ending the mission on turn zero.

I honestly use the true concealment mod anyway. It balances out those times when you can't seem to find any pod and spend 4 turns on the timer looking for them, and those other times when there's a civilian behind that corner that reveals your whole squad on your first move and you suddenly have to scramble (because true concealment lowers the base timer).

I use it for making rookies and squaddies all wear uniform gear makes them look like nobodies. That way I can dissasociate myself when new recruits/anyone below Sgt dies.

It's pretty critical actually (here assuming vanilla). You have to be able to get the Ranger into the fight, just taking potshots from a distance with the shotgun as you approach isn't gonna get the ayys dead. The power of the Ranger is the crit build and the crit build strongly leans on having flanks for that juicy crit bonus. Gotta have mobility for that.

Assuming LW2, then mobility is less relevant. I wouldn't take a "low" mobility Ranger though. Like, 11 mobility is just too slow to fucking be worth anything at all. Grenadiers get away with it because the range on the Grenade Launcher is ludicrous, Rangers don't have that going for them really. You need 12+ mobility on a Ranger to really get good results out of them, and you honestly want a little more if you can get it so you can get close for Both Barrels, which is amazing in the early game for deleting problem enemies.

Mobility is always important, save maybe for a DFA sharpshooter that finds a good sniper nest. LW rangers are one of the best low-mobility classes though besides sniper

You can get intel on troop movements, retaliations, UFO landings, avatar facilities, points of interest and liberation chains.

The only reason why I was even able to afford them was the carry corpses mod, but even then it's no longer that easy to do them, I just stocked up on every trooper and officer corpse I was able to carry early game and now try to grab only useful ones without running too much of a risk.

It sort of is early on but I've found it's usefulness has been diminishing, most of the time I'm only able to use it on 200% infiltration missions which have less than 10 enemies anyway. It did helped me with muton and MEC autopsies though, and I'm so bored with reguar LW2 anyway that making things easier ends up being better than treating XCOM 2 like work.

I honestly cannot comprehend why people want 100+ mission campaigns. I know LW2 adds new missions and enemies and stuff, but I can't imagine there's enough new content to justify 3x as many missions. Even Legend difficulty drags for me.

I can't really either. Like, I beat a LW1 campaign and I beat a LW2 one too, but it was just such a fucking slog to do it. Possible, but really frankly awful to do. I would not recommend it, honestly. I have had a lot more fun doing my own custom "Longish War" campaigns with mods and the like.

I'm perfectly fine with tons of missions, my problem is that ADVENT takes forever to upgrade their troops in the beginning of the game. It gets really boring fighting the almost the exact same troops for 4 months in a row, It gets much better around July when they start throwing real enemies at you
