Some time ago I got a PS4 controller to replace my DS3s for new games. It worked fine and I eventually got a PS4 and decided to pair my new DS4 to my PC. This new controller was recognized as a headset and I fixed that but now my PC won't recognize my old DS4 or my DS3s. It's not that programs won't recognize them but that my PC itself won't recognize them, at least not as controllers. I get the sound that indicates that a device has been recognized but no devices pop up anywhere I might expect it. My old DS4 still works with my PS4 so I can leave that be but I need the DS3s for emulation.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm a little lost here. I've tried all of the standard stuff like resetting the controllers and updating/reinstalling drivers but nothing's working. Sorry if this isn't really appropriate for the thread but this seemed the most likely place to have experience dicking around with connecting controllers to PCs.

Ok, I'm having a weird issue. I finally built a computer that isn't a potato about a month ago, runs great. Been wanting to replay super metroid so I downloaded the rom and finally decided to try out higan after hearing about it since bsnes first came out. Inported it, loaded it up, program freezes. Tried 4 different SM roms. Gave up and decided to download retroarch since it has multiple cores, tried the bsnes and snes9x cores, same thing. Tried snes9x 1.53, same thing. Tried out different games in retroarch, same thing. No idea what to do.

Windows 10
Ryzen 7
Msx ti980
32gb ram

Finally got a good rig and cant even play stuff that runs on a p2. Anyone have any ideas? It runs n64 emulators.

There is nothing wrong if you are using POS, you are just a retard for doing it
>>
>>184139142
I'm sorry for reaching that conclusion, but it's not my problem either, and I prefer instead we leave this discussion at that. I see no further use in this discussion when you have deliberate blinders on.

As for the whole 'botnet' thing, nearly every mobile phone out there plays host to a truckload of userland botnets. One such 'botnet' SDK, called Luminati SDK, is even being installed into programs by app makers just to make money. So while you rant and rave about some prolific XP botnet putting us all at risk, you fail to realize that this isn't the '90s or even '00s anymore and most of the botnets have shifted to Internet of Things and mobile, and honestly, you are a day late and a dollar short there if you think you can do anything about it. Money talks these days, moral integrity is rapidly becoming a scarce currency, and if an app maker can make some money installing a botnet, guess how many people would reject it based on principle? You can count the amount of people on one hand, one of them being me, who rejected just such an offer for RetroArch on the Play Store. I am willing to bet a fair few other devs would have not and would have happily thrown it in.

So, honestly, what are you even concern trolling about? Some old desktop PC running Windows XP is like the least of your concerns vs. millions and billions of smartphones running some nefarious botnet from within the confines of a userland app. Gain some perspective here.

So I get stuttering in SNES games. This happens in every SNES emulator I've used. It happened in Mgba as well, but I fixed it by enabling sync to video.

Unfortunately SNES emulators don't have that option. So is there anything else I can do?

The fact it disappeared when you enabled that option tells me you (for whatever reason) have a troublesome vsync problem. Probably some hardware-monitor specific hiccup. RetroArch may actually be a good fit in that situation.

I'd give it a go, if you haven't already.

The only reason I even started fielding the occasional GBA and DS question is due entirely to advancements spearheaded by mGBA, medusa, and MelonDS. Otherwise you'd be on your own there too, unless you had questions about No-Intro, Redump or TruRip.

What crimes? I never kept up with the emulation scene politics. I remember him having autistic shitfits though.

I just downloaded retroarch for the first time since 2013(maybe 2014), and even though I never liked the ps3 interface I like the new gui much better than the old grey one. It's cool he's got it ported to so many systems, as well as beibg able to download cores within the program(i remember it being a feature once but it was broken). Actually made me start thinking about making an emulator box for my living room, easy to use and set up. I'll probably have dual boot hardrives with xbmc/kodi or whatever the flavor of the week is and RA.

Really, I came here to ask about an emulator pc. What should I build if I'm trying to emulate anything from 2600 to mame to dolphin to pcsx2?
>>
>>184172275

Some do, others prefer a different vintage. Then there's that one dude that insists he needs a 4k version for reasons.

1. Do not bother with Gen 1 systems, they should not (in my opinion) be classified as true "video game consoles".

2. Collect only for Gens which have at least one accurate emulator.

3. Within each extant Gen, pick three consoles and three handhelds (where applicable). Skip the rest.

Even assuming you don't pick exactly the ones I did (I can list those if you'd like?) you should wind up with a library of thousands or tens of thousands of games. All of them worth playing.

Retard here. My main PC has no internet and I don't know what to download and transfer from my phone to it in order to manually add Beetle PSX to retroarch. The retroarch forums are all "dude just download lmao" posts with zero instructions for adding cores manually. Is thee a website where I can download beetle psx with the core pre-downloaded? Pic somewhat related because of chrono cross with boosted clock and higher IR
>>
>>184197154

Problem is, I'm pretty sure there is literally no way to manually add cores. Like, the functionality does not exist. Did it at one time? Will it at some point in the future?

Who the fuck knows!

I did not mean game quality, guy. I mean the actual quality of the files themselves. If you bother to look at them they are downloaded from just fucking anywhere, god knows how they've been modified or if the assets are all there, and the little cuntmunch even makes much about how he "prefers original media" as his source (even though only a small fraction appears to have actually been sourced from that).

In short, I expected the No-Intro of DOS games. Instead I got a glorified scene release compilation.

Whelp, since there is apparently no active moderation on /vg/ (thanks so very much for that, Hiro et al), lemme just say this: your autistic ass why we can't have nice things, Anon. Not you specifically, per se (wouldn't want you developing an ego now, would we?), but people *like* you. Take a look at a few of your posts prior to this one. Yes, I'm sure on some level, you can't help how blunt you are. But even 'spergerburgers understand the concept of politeness. You're not a downie. You are capable of basic reason, if not feeling in any normal sense of the word.

Now, you may be wondering what the fuck my point is; typing this, bothering to respond to a post 20 and 30 replies and 12 hours back, making sure you understand my thoughts on this in a bit of detail. It's because I want it to be perfectly clear when I say this:

You are a fucking piece of shit. I hope you die in horrible amounts of pain, well before your time, and that someone sets your house and all your things on fire besides. At your funeral, should anyone give enough of a goddamn about your sorry ass to attend, I hope neither your mother nor father are present, out of shame and loathing respectively.

I guess they did a little maintenence, but it's not good enough imo. Dolphin's D3D11 backend is in better shape and i don't ever feel the need to use OGL backend, unlike PCSX2 where it doesn't even do interlacing properly on the D3D backend..

I still respect PCSX2 far more than Dolphin because at the end of the day, I can just use their software renderer any time the D3D backend is unsatisfactory.

I definitely agree with some of your concerns. It is indeed sad that audio is crap, Perfect Dark can't boot in LLE, etc. In some ways, I wouldn't want cycle accuracy because a lot of N64 games were poorly optimized which means there's frame drops/lag. These emulators are playing games at a higher clockrate, which is usually a good thing. Only a handful of games afaik suffer from having a high clockspeed.

I don't really hate the idea of using plugins, but in this case, there are some ironic downfalls. Even Angrylion's plugin would be a little faster if it wasn't a plugin.

What accuracy issues bother you besides certain games not being compatible? In most cases, I found that 1964/PJ64 + Angrylion had satisfactory accuracy. The biggest issues for me generally seems to be audio quality and performance.

I'd love a cycle-accurate (or even medium accuracy, like mednafenpsx/mednafenss) N64 emulator. Problem is, people way smarter than me seem to think it can't be done.

Gotta love how biased people are, in this scene. Basically the OP asks for help. Someone gives advice and says they've already HLE'd part of the game. No one listens to that. OP later panics and posters seem to just take his side instead of listening to the guy offering help. People start criticizing the guy who was offering help and the OP just rage quits. Weeks go by and no solution from any of these arrogant people who refused to listen. Meanwhile the guy who offered help, got HLE yielding to work for Gauntlet after a few hours of debugging.

Irony at it's finest :) . It's honestly cringe-worthy how people pick sides based on each person's reputation, rather than actually considering what each person has to say..

>I'd love a cycle-accurate (or even medium accuracy
In that case you can either pin your hopes on either PJ64 or ParaLLEl. Despite what other ignorant people have said about PJ64 not really improving, it really has improved. zilmar now has the ability to make test ROMs and improve accuracy. The problem is that end users keep distracting him with their requests. He likes to cater to end users and make money (not saying that this is a good thing). I think eventually he will focus more on accuracy, possibly sooner if more end users told him they want more accuracy.

I reckon that by the end of this year, N64 emulation will be in better shape. I believe some collaboration is going on with ParaLLEl so that emulator is likely to shape up as well. Although it's very unfortunate that they are still using Mupen64plus as a base. It's beyond saving at this point, honestly.

Are you aware of other games besides perfect dark, with accuracy issues? Please let me know. I can tell a few devs and possibly get one of them to look into fixing some of these issues. One problem is that issues end up being forgotten because no one really talks about them. People need to stop holding back on issue reports, if they want to see real progress.

The game runs really bad in a real console,I wonder if you people who cry about LLE have even play those games in real consoles.
plus, using the latest build of PJ64 with overclocking you can maintain 60FPS in most areas(game still locks itself to 30FPS in some areas unless you hack it)
>>
>>184281835
>I wonder if you people who cry about LLE have even play those games in real consoles.
Yes, I remember playing split screen.. Explosions made the performance atrocious. Performance was probably the biggest problem with that game. I never understood why game devs didn't put performance at top priority..

Anyway, I think it's just sad when HLE for a 20 year old console still struggles in performance.. Obviously the HLE code needs some optimizations.
>>

Also, there has been a build for the game circulating the internet with 60FPS locked for YEARS.
>>
>>184282358

>I never understood why game devs didn't put performance at top priority..

They'd already had to rewrite the game from the ground-up (including premise) once. They were nervous as hell it was gonna fall on its ass with the public despite all the hard work.

So, bells-and-whistles time. Do you not realize how incredible it is that it even works as well as it does? N64 hardware is not easy.

>>184282907
Interesting. I didn't know they had to rewrite the game from the ground up. I honestly blame Nintendo for the way they treated 3rd party developers. They should have been more willing to share documentation with the developers. The standard ucodes were sub-par imo. Then there's the fact that compilers were absolutely awful back then. If you ever disassemble/debug a game, you'll see just how awful the code is.
RARE did good work making good graphics, but imo it's not worth it because of the huge performance hit. At least Factor 5 seems to have put more effort into optimizing their games. Same with Boss Game Studio.

Last time we had this argument he claimed to have had issues I couldn't replicate (namely the voice sequence in CTR having very noticeable crackling).

Is this a good build for emulation? Granted, I also want to run modern games at 1440p, and other amateur/hobbyist tasks. I already know Ryzen is worse than Intel for single-threaded tasks (ie, most emulators), but multi-threading becoming is more common (I think RPCS3 uses multi-threading)

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Z6P8BP
>>
>>184337510
I Would pick Ryzen 6 1600x, it has the best SingleThreadRating, it's on the level of an Core i5 6500 and has 6 cores
>>
>>184337510
Not that it matters at that price point, but you could save some money using the B350 chipset instead of the X370.

Basically, do you need what X370 provides and/or are you seeking "higher quality components" for overclocking?
>>
>>184337841
>>184338728
Thanks guys. Yeah, I was thinking about doing a slight overclock, and the x370 seems to be better suited for that than the b350. Also, I was mostly using Logical Increments' exceptional/enthusiast tiers as a base, and just making relevant adjustments to cut costs/convert from Intel to Ryzen.

I had also made an approximately equivalent Intel build. Is this good too, or should I just stick with Ryzen?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ksP8BP
>>
>>184337510
There are CPU heatsinks that perform as well or better than that one for cheaper or the same price point (ThermalRight Macho, Noctua UH-12S, Hyper 212X
Gigabyte 10XX GPU are notorious for having a very high chance of coil whine, the chance does exist everywhere but Gainward cards seem to be the least affected for some reason (I'd imagine the heavy binning has to come into play though)

>>184339749
Either is fine, you will get better CPU performance out of the Intel build (unless you try RPCS3 if they still haven't fixed the *Lake performance issues) but you're gonna get fucked for upgradeability unless intel decides to not change their whole platform every two CPU gen or less, nothing says AMD is actually gonna catch up with Zen+ though.
>>
>>184340178
Yeah, I was going for that HSF because I kinda wanted to do some amateur sound production stuff as well, so I wanted to have a quiet build. But if the GPU will have coil whine, I guess it defeats the purpose.

Speaking of, you think I should get a sound card, or just use the onboard audio on the mobo? Again, this is just amateur/hobbyist stuff, not professional.
>>
>>184317790
>he bought AMD
I'm so sorry
>>
>>184341227
For yourself? Damn, hope you recover.
>>
>>184341147
>Speaking of, you think I should get a sound card
Yeah worth the 30-100 bucks if you're gonna do anything more than just play games on your computer, probably adds a few neat things for low latency emulation setups even but I'm not sure.

>Yeah, I was going for that HSF because I kinda wanted to do some amateur sound production stuff as well
Better do a custom job, find the cheapest heatsink that accepts 2 12cm fans, nab the two most silent Noctua/Noiseblocker ones, and slap them on that heatsink, the cooling will be much better than stock and the sound will be lower than the HDD hum.
>>

>>184337510
Basically the same build I have with some small differences(used 980, ps, 32gb ram) but same mobo and cpu. Runs like a dream, most emulators are good, games from 2015 with all the bells and whistles running at 60fps on 1080. Can pro tools or fruity loops with dozens of different virtual instruments and effects rendering live. Latency is still noticeable but that's the fault of the interface, I'm waiting til lightning interfaces and pci cards get more support to upgrade though.
>>
>>184344741
why do you say that? if I'm straight honest you'd call me an asshole, so I'm showing sympathy and I'm now "salty"?
>>
>>184344880
You have a sound card, or just using the onboard mobo audio?
>>
>>184345214
I use the focusrite for audio, let's me run monitors and cans simultaneously with independent volume controls. If I move the computer out of my studio space to a tv I use audio over hdmi from the 980. A sound card will really only benefit you if you need to run more than computer speakers or headphones, like if you want optical or 5.1.
