So I want to learn Abigail, but I hate how you have to memorize frame data not only for his normals and specials, but for his v-triggered normals which also have 2 different versions (partially held and fully held).

They took a high risk high reward character and made her safer so you don't need to wait for trait to be up. It's faster and also easier to get consecutive games in. You can also adjust the setting of the room in player match

People just don't bother with rank because they rather play tons of matches quickly with good connection and the player base is too small to get good connection rank all the time

Assuming you're talking about SFV, he can be one of the more technical characters once you start talking boom loops.

His fundies, however, are very simple. Sonic Boom is one of the best projectiles and he has very good buttons. As long as charge inputs don't scare you I would definitely recommend him.

Links add an element of skill to the game outside of just fundamentals and spacing. People always say "WELL THE PROS NEVER DROP COMBOS SO WHY NOT LET EVERYONE DO THEM" but you see dropped combos in high level matches all the time. Even anime games with gatling buttons sometimes add characters with links to the game because of this. (Hakumen, Kum, Azrael, etc.) It keeps the game interesting and adds another marker for new players to pass on their journey to becoming okay at fighting games.

I've never heard anyone with a valuable opinion say this. Combos don't finish themselves whether you play SF or anime, the leniency for chains isn't as wide as some people like to claim and other games also provide more defensive options than SF.

For the past 15 years or more I'd say, video games are common enough where canceling is far more intuitive and commonplace to the average player than the concept of a link. This is especially the case with how common 3D action games with fightlike mechanics exist. I think GG gets it about right for the distribution of links and chains, links should be for optimal combo damage but not necessary unless it's one of the few characters built around it.

Adding more elements of skill does not make the game better. For example, you could make a fighting game with a couple of unused buttons, and then use those buttons for a rhythm game. While the match is going on, players have to press the two buttons at the right times (according to a display at the top of the screen) or else they lose health.

The rhythm element of that game makes it harder to play optimally, but it probably doesn't make the game better (it might actually be pretty fun though).

I don't think there's a fact of the matter when it comes to execution in fighting games. There are people who really like mastering hard combos and grinding things out in training mode, and other people who don't. Hopefully they can each play their own games. I do think there's a sweet spot with execution for player retention (new players want to be able to practice without losing over and over again, but they don't want to practice too much), but for people competent at the game it's sheer preference.

GG has over 100 lessons tailored to your character choice for matchups and general system mechanics, on top of a robust trial mode that clearly demonstrates combo theory for every character in the cast. I'm a controllerfag for most of my life and I recently bought a stick. The first month or so is going to feel like absolute shit and you'll want to go back to controller. Once you spend a couple of days in training mode you'll get used to it. It's a lot easier to mash on stick and you'll save yourself some carpal tunnel in the long run.
